Owen's goal was great but James Rodriguez's goal was ridiculous so it gets my vote.

    Owen 3-4 Rodriguez

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

The above score was the state of play at full time. James is into the last 8.

    Bergkamp.

The pass. The touch. The finish. Just incredible

Bergkamp all day long, everything about it is class, the pass, the control, the finish

    Bergkamp

Love Diao's goal but Bergkamp is a piece of magic

Plenty more action to come, including our penultimate Round of 16 match featuring one of the greatest players of all time... and Diego Maradona.

    Robbie Keane,

    green blinkered ireland goggles on

that goal just brings back some great memories so i prefer it

    Ditto for me.

That Keane goal emits some serious emotions. Yeah it's scrappy but by Jaysus I remember where I was when it went in.

    10 minutes to go.

I'll actually go for Maradona, I've voted for Keane a few times out of bias but that Maradona goal is lovely. Great one touch passing, and a top corner finish to boot.

    Keane

    Keane 3-1 Maradona

Marco Tardelli (Italy vs West Germany, 1982)

    VS

Archie Gemill (Scotland vs Netherlands, 1978)

Tardelli by a country mile here, this is no match up. Patience, counter attack, lovely touch and hammered home. In a final. Not to mention the celebration, and that 80s music :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,534 ✭✭✭SomethingElse

Two great goals but I'll have to go with Gemmill. The little bit of individual skill is sublime.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,007 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

I'm going to disagree with Skylinehead and go for Gemill

To do that to the Dutch, when you're Scottish!
He dances through them, they look like kids in a playground

The Tardelli one, for me, is a poor touch leading to a snatched finish. The build up has lovely moments but it ends averagely. And I'm ignoring the celebration!

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,366 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

Voting Gemill, got a bit of luck with one defender but lovely bit of skill to beat the last player and then the keeper. A nice calm celebration also

  • Registered Users Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Id say Gemmill. More direct and incisive. Like a coiled snake. Tardelli's goal is a bit too languid and all over the shop. Like some stupid goat.

    Gemmill

Archie Gemmill - So much trickery and skill.

How on earth could that Robbie Keane goal progress at the expense of Maradona?

Well, I know: more people voted for it, but, lads - to pick that Keane goal, a long ball and a flick on, over the that intricate build up play and powerful and precise finish?

    Gemmill

lovely individual goal and reminds me of trainspotting haha

I will not rise to the bait, the goat is a more dignified animal than a largely fictional elephant.
