The last stage winner of the Tour de France in Poitiers was Sean Kelly who beat out Dutchman Gerrie Knetemann in a two-man sprint in 1978.

Possibility for a second bunch sprint in a row. The final straight line is 1.6km long.
And of course Sam Bennett has the chance for back to back stage wins!!

Along the way, there’s a Category 4 climb just outside of Cherveux (91 km) followed by the Intermediate Sprint in Les Grands Ajoncs (108km).

The finish has two tight left-hand corners at about 3,300- and 2,500-meters to go.

The final kilometer is almost perfectly straight, so the sprinters should have little trouble setting themselves up for the final dash to the line.

Philippa York (Millar) writing about the performance of Tim Declercq yesterday.

Massive effort from him and Michael Mørkøv
Hard to see Bennett getting the same level of protection again today.

Today looks like a day for Ewan with maybe Vivianni getting involved as well.

That said we would all love to see Sam getting another one.

Probably doesn't need it to be fair. I reckon breakaway unless several sprint teams work together. Green Jersey wise, suits DQS for a break to get all the points!

What are the chances of cross winds today, or is it more likely to be a tail wind all the way?

I'd be amazed if the sprint teams allow the breakaway to contest for the win.

I reckon Thomas Dr Gendt is jealous of Ladagnous right now. He'd prefer to be out on a solo breakaway rather than having to lead the peloton

On the Carrick Wheelers split, I assumed it was a NCA/ ICF split, but just a quick check of "The Story of the Rás" and "Hunger" seem to suggest personality driven (even though the "new" one was ICF). I thought I read that before, but can't put my hand on "The Ascent"!
I'd be amazed if the sprint teams allow the breakaway to contest for the win.
What I meant was DQS were going to play hard ball with the other sprint teams. But they shut down that break pretty quick!

For anyone with a few minutes to spare, switch over to Tirreno Adriatico for the last 10k of todays stage. Should be an interesting finale

Is Muhlberger self-isolating in the peloton?

That was quite smart there by Quickstep. Little energy spent and the little bonus of the lead out lad getting second!

I hope Sam has enough prize money to pay for all the post-race pints he will owes Morkov and the other lads.

Looks like thats it for Muhlberger

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,425 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    Sam 213 points
    Sagan 188 points

So Sam increases his lead by 4 points and it's now 25 points.

Morkov is now 8th in the classification :D

Jaysus Izagirre with a wound on his chest and eye there from the looks of it. Looked to be pretty dazed.
