Scary onboard from Giovanazzi there. What's the rule on the leader picking up the pace on the restart? Can he choose when the go anytime up until the start/finish line?

I know he did nothing wrong by the rule book but it was dangerous as ****. That’s a fact.

That was dangerous as **** though. Grosjean is absolutely right.

Was it dangerous of Bottas or those at the back for going too fast. The latter in my opinion. Bottas is the safety car until the line, we always see others slowing to a near stop.while the safety heads in, Bottas just did it later.

They haven't even completed 1 race lap yet!

People at the back not paying attention.

    Exactly.

Nothing wrong with Bottas start there. Absolutely nothing.

Class work from Bottas. That's what I would do with the rules as they are. Everyone else's fault behind.

The exact same tactic was used in the junior races and they managed not to cause a massive pile up. I suspect one driver ran out of talent somewhere in the middle

Exceptionally dangerous restart from Bottas, if it was legal it won't be legal from the next race

The rest of them would have done the same in his position too. It was the only thing to do.

By the looks of things, Magnussen was nearly stopped on track

    The race clock stops now?

The cars at the back were at fault.

Thery were at full acceleration when nobody else was

Bottas is the safety car. He did nothing dangerous

From the replay there it's nothing to do with Bottas choice of restart tactic. The incident at the back was already happening before Bottas had bolted

Friggin amateur hour all the same

    Completely disagree
Everyone is just used to Hamilton speeding away after safety cars, didn't count on anything else happening.
Cars in place 2 to 11 seemed have no problem.

100% guys at the backs fault. Accelerating when the guys at the front hadn’t.

Thats the issue. As someone said you need a line, like the start line, which they cant accelerate before

All too focused on getting a tow, blinded.

Would be boring but I could see a rule come in where you stay at safety car speeds until the start line and can only accelerate after that.

The track as much as anything caused that crash. I can’t think of another track where it’s to the lead cars advantage to wait until the last second to bolt.

Just line them up for standing starts

From Bottas rear view mirror, I cant see that he had any hand on what went on far, far behind him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

First contact happening before Bottas had even hit the line.
If anything, looking at the replays, race control showed the green flags/lights too early.

The track seems way too tight or something, there was no room to even attempt to move

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

I take it back. Fair enough on Bottas’ part.

And it happened just before he put his foot down.

I don't blame Bottas for any of that. Most of the experts on Sky had called how Bottas was going to restart that - it seemed common sense.

Combination of the track and the poor vision in the cars after that.

Surely a standing start then for the restart?

Things are getting so chaotic Williams could score some points!

Think sky said it’s a standing start.

Were the green flags being waved too soon?

The scrap for 3rd will be fascinating. Hopefully Bottas can give Hamilton a race, but I won’t hold my breath.

I'm hoping they collide on the restart

Who ever at the back put the foot down too early is at fault, haven't seen a replay proving who it was yet.

Looked like it didn't it, I think there will be quite a few things to consider in terms of contributing factors.

So the talk after this race will be how to manage the risk in situations like this. Let's see if they copy the Indycar restart with cars side by side, doing a rolling start... And wait for green flag on the straight before flooring it.

SKY explained perfectly what just happen.
100% driver error from the lads at the back.

Also explained green flag means race has restarted BUT you still cant pass until you pass the line.

    Ocon out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,028 ✭✭✭H3llR4iser

I don't see how can anyone possibly blame either Bottas or "the track" - it's a pure matter of having a few drivers on the grid who clearly put their brains into storage at some point - and maybe some race engineers giving idiotic advice of "holding back" to accelerate first and build up speed. You just don't bolt away if you're at the back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,352 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Roles reversed for Hamilton and Bottas now with the standing start.
Bottas kind of losing out for not putting a foot wrong so far.
