Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Annacotty - a death trap

    A chairde,
I'm a 19 year old, learning to drive, who just got a job in Annacotty industrial estate in Limerick.
I'm concerned how the road from the estate to Annacotty village is absolutely treacherous, without any footpaths - one week working and I've already witnessed a car crash - which I narrowly missed being part of as a walker.
In terms of getting in and out, the nearest regular bus is Castletroy - 4 kilometres away.
There's also a train crossing right beside the industrial estate - I'd love to see a future where there's a train stop here, but I understand that's far in the future.
Would it be possible to see a footpath built, or a bus service set up? There are hundreds of people working here, and I see car after car with 1 person inside every day. The traffic volume is huge.
I'm new to Limerick, and not sure where I should lobby for this - maybe someone can help me out?
    - Micheál

funding of €400,000 was just made available in the last month for improvements to that road

You could have a word with Kieran O' Donnell TD. He's Castletroy based so would know the situation and who in authority to speak to. Invariably, with these kind of issues, it seems that only sustained campaigning by local residents will have any effect. How about arranging lifts from some of your work colleagues?

Yeah the lack of footpaths leading up to the estate are a disgrace. Especially come winter when it's dark after 5.

Works to start very soon. Possibly week after next. Irish rail a huge issue though. Massive money to widen the crossing. The local authority are ploughing ahead with a path both side of the track. Hopefully this leads to some banging of heads in Irish Rail to widen this crossing.

Do you know if they are cutting into existing gardens\fields? I'd imagine they'd have to as there is no room for a path otherwise. There is quite a few utility polls to be moved too.

As far as I know, there'll only be 1 local resident's garden affected. Big issue for cars / trucks exiting the industrial estate with really poor visibility towards oncoming traffic from Murroe side. Why can't anyone move the blocking ditch? With the volume of traffic exiting, it seems a no brainer? (I do feel the plight of people walking along here - it's pretty treacherous & everyone's always in a rush..or so it seems?)

Hopefully the work will go quickly enough so.
The road surface is also polished making it very slippy as you pull out when turning right.
There are also far too many people who don't check for traffic from the Murroe direction and just pull straight out though.

Road will be resurfaced also from the flyover to the estate entrance.
