Sam in a 32 man group off the back of the main peloton

Seeing Sam struggling over those Cat 3 yokes there, he'll do well to get over the Alps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 544 ✭✭✭lissard

Maybe be only Cat3 but you have to consider the cumulative climbing load prior to this - this stage has the highest elevation gain in this years tour (4500m). I mean the Poggio is an easy enough climb but is always decisive after ~ 300k. The only fear for the Grupetto is if we have a short fast stage in the Alps - wasn't there something like that 2 years ago?

Dan dropped immediately as they began ascent of Category 2 penultimate climb, no legs again

Anyone know the difficulty coefficient for todays stage? I'm guessing the time cut will be winner plus 13% which would be around 36-40 minutes so Sam should be ok but he's making tough going of it today.

The stage coeffecient is 4 (very difficult) and @ 39k average speed the cutoff is 17% of winning time.

Roglic is so smooth on the bike

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,586 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

It’s going to take something special to take yellow from Roglic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭De Bhál

    Roglic is like a machine

    That was impressive from Roglic
    Good stage
    Killer!

Richie Porte might just get his first Tour podium!

Pogacar doesn't look like he can take back time on Roglic.

    But who knows?

Dan finished 11th in the end which means he got up the last two climbs 'relatively' ok.

Knowing Porte, he'll suffer some bizarre final-week incident like being bitten by a rabid marmot or having his bike burst into flames

2 slovenians, followed by 4 colombians

Bardet lost 2'30 to Roglic, G Martin lost 2'45

yes he didn't completely blow and could be riding himself into some kind of form, might be in with a shout in a shorter mountain stage in a few days

Always think the fans look like some bunch of bell-ends on these races.

Bernal is lucky that tomorrow should be (relatively) easy for the GC guys. He went deep at the end to limit losses and looked in a world of pain compared to Roglic or even Porte.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,425 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Sam finished last (+34'21") but safely within the time limit (+48'17"). Morkov, DeClerqcq, and Devenyns were alongside Sam. The rest of the sprinters, including Sagan, finished just a few minutes ahead of him.

Sunday is going to kill the race off, one way or the other!
