    Hi lads,
Been a while! I’m thinking about ordering the Sony WH1000XM3 (Black) headphones and a decentish surround sound for my fathers sitting room tv. Nothing crazy on the surround sound, even those HTIB may do. Round €300 mark. Might stretch a bit depending. I still have my old Onkyo 607 here that I’d thought of giving him and just getting some speakers but wanted to see what you guys could come up with. Wireless could be useful but I realize there is a quality drop off with wireless. Will probably manage wired if we have enough cable.

    Chris.

    Hi Chris.

Thanks for coming back to us.

The only down side of the 607 would be non 4K decoding or pass through.
We also would not have any amps that could handle wireless rears with the 300 Euro budget.
Starting point for an amp that could do this would be the Yamaha RXA680 coming in at 579 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203497-yamaha-rxa680-black-atmos-av-receiver.aspx

We have a refurbished Yamaha YHT1840 priced at 249 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-13903-yamaha-yht1840-clearance-5-1-package-system-inc-speakers-excluding-dvd-player-yamaha-refurbished.aspx
This would include the Amp and a 5.1 speaker pack (Non Wireless) and would be a great little setup.

The cheapest 5.1 speaker pack that you coudl add to your 607 would be the POLK Audio TL1600 coming in at 349 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-204882-polk-audio-tl1600-black-5-1-speaker-package.aspx

The WH1000XM3 are priced up at 279 Euro

That Yamaha is tempting. Wireless isn't a big deal, they have a Philips HTIB from years ago, one of the speakers cable was too short so wireless was mentioned, but with a system like that we could just make sure we order enough cable to go with it.

I'd thought the same about the Onyo regarding the 4k. Part of reason I upgraded mine :) He doesn't watch 4k content at the minute, but that could change. With the refurbished, I'm assuming that comes boxed 'as new' ? Whats the warranty on refurbs? Whats the sound like on the Yamaha

    Hey Chris.

The Refurbed unit is complete as new and in original packaging.
It was refurbed by Yamaha them selves and comes with the standard 1 year warranty.

The YHT1840 includes it own cables (24.5 meters of speaker cable)
The subwoofer for this also runs on speaker cable so everything is included in the box.

I'd need to check but that would probably be enough. Is that 1 roll of 24.5 meters that can be cut as needed?

Sounds good Kenny. Do you happen to have any suitable stands for those speakers, not too bulky? Might need 2.

Starting point for an amp that could do this would be the Yamaha RXA680 coming in at 579 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203497-yamaha-rxa680-black-atmos-av-receiver.aspx

We have a refurbished Yamaha YHT1840 priced at 249 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-13903-yamaha-yht1840-clearance-5-1-package-system-inc-speakers-excluding-dvd-player-yamaha-refurbished.aspx
This would include the Amp and a 5.1 speaker pack (Non Wireless) and would be a great little setup.

The cheapest 5.1 speaker pack that you coudl add to your 607 would be the POLK Audio TL1600 coming in at 349 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-204882-polk-audio-tl1600-black-5-1-speaker-package.aspx

    Kenny.

    Kenny.
I'd need to check but that would probably be enough. Is that 1 roll of 24.5 meters that can be cut as needed?
    Hey Chris.

Yes, it comes as one 24.5 meter length and can be cut to the sizes required for each speaker.

    Kenny.
Perfect Kenny, cheers. Finally, have you heard that system yourself? Opinion? I find it hard with these things hold back and not view it through my own eyes and go for fully featured separate setups :D But its for my mother and fathers sitting room, mostly Sky Q and Netflix use.
    Hi Chris.

I've heard it a few times here at the store and it sounds great for it price point :)

It does what it says on the tin without all the bells and whistles of the more expensive system.

    Kenny.
Sounds good Kenny. Do you happen to have any suitable stands for those speakers, not too bulky? Might need 2.
    Hey Chris.

The speakers of the YHT1840 have the keyhole slots on the back for wall mounting so you would have to use stands that they just sit on top of.
I don't think I would have anything that would suit them as our standard stand are for much larger speakers and the YHT ones could look lost sitting on top of such a large top plate.

    Hi lads,
Been a while!

Ha yeah they would be dwarfed by the stands alright! :D We might find a place for them. Could wall mount, they'd be fairly light I'd imagine so wouldnt take much.

Right, so whats the total cost for the headphones and the yamaha system with delivery to Letterkenny, Donegal?
