Its a good track. I like the vocals and the smooth rhythm makes it a nice listen. Its nothing spectacular and other songs will rate higher, but it’s a good track.

Sadly its not an improvement on the original, though Marc Almonds vocals do it no hard. Its just not strong enough to place higher.

The original is over played at this stage but it was very enjoyable but I found it could have been more. This is a fine piece of instrumental work, but the song suffers from the lack of lyrics. The lyrics are what made the song so popular, and without them it’s lacking. Fine but nothing spectacular at all.

One of Rihanna’s better tracks and one I'm fond of. Well this is a splendid cover, its toe tapping good and it's got me bopping away. Lead singer has vocals which remind me of Erasure and I can't help but enjoy this. This honky tonk take on Umbrella is music to my ears. Good choice. Its got that “play me again” quality and it just works.

    Love it.

You must be dreading this round knowing how bad this track fared earlier.

While I will admit it's a slight improvement over the original, it simply is too similar to the original song I dislike. Just not a fan sadly. I just am sick of the melody.

You knew it was coming and I tried to give it a fair shot, it is just not my taste. Sorry.

Never been a huge APC fan, and I never really liked the John Lennon original, so this cover is up against it from the get go. But I must admit, I really do enjoy this. From the slow tempo, to the orchestral backup, this really clicks with me. Slight vibes of Led Zepplin’s Kashmir here and as the song continues, I can't help but love it. It's sinister in its delivery and works way better than the original ever did. Maybe I should check out more A Perfect Circle.

    Top prize Fixxxer

Nice to see you didn't know my entry beaker. Such a great song.

Not widely known it's a cover, originally a folk song.

Was tempted to enter this though, but felt it could be a bit risky :D

NKOTB - Step by Step, submitted by Irish Aris

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

Initially I thought "80’s cheese and I love it". Its got those nostalgic feels and its extremely stereotypical boy band.
But as I assessed other tracks and re listened, it went down and down. The vocals aren't great to be kind and the beat gets old fast. Better boy band tracks and better NKOTB songs. Unlucky IA.

How were NKOTB last, they have got the right stuff ;)

Nah, I've had last place at least once before (Barney and Mr K did not appreciate The Lonely Island), possibly more but can't remember without going back and checking all the reveals... Its good to come last every now and again anyway, gives you a kick up the hole and shakes away the complacency. ;)

    Tom Greens underated classic.

A 14 year old beakerjoe watched it with my 50 year old mother, unaware of Greens antics.

I like this sound. Nice vocals, esp the backing vocals, both blending well with the instrumental. The soft drums are pleasing, giving the song the “oomph” it needed after a calm intro. Its haunting, bring visions of a heartbreaking scene in a movie. The guitars hoit nicely at the finale, bring this track to a neat close. Very enjoyable.

If anyone hates Rocky or any of his cheeseball movies I will fight you. This iconic track has a great intro that builds to a belting riff that gets you ready for the fight. Yeah its a bit of a novelty track these days but its waaaay more listenable than it should be after all these years of being overplayed and its perfect workout montage music. A track I will always enjoy.

A fun song, love the energy and it grows on you as you listen again.
Hard to not enjoy it, great melody and its got a nice zany sound to it. Its very infectious on repeated listens and really gets better the more you listen. Nice choice.

I am not a huge hip hop fan but I know what I like, and I like this for what it is despite it not being my cuppa tea.

I like the opening and its a got a nice old school feel to it, very Jurrassic 5 esque. Its nothing mind blowing, but the rhymes and lyrics are a beautiful example of smooth musical poetry. An easy listen, nothing to hate and I can appreciate it.

    7 minutes of whale noise!!!!

Ok not quiet, a nice slow intro which maybe is a bit long for my taste as it doesn't really change gears during the intro. I do enjoy the drum work in the intro though, however the whale sounds add nothing for me. I don't mind a long intro, but it's all very samey for 3 minutes.

But when the intro is over, business picks up big time. Great stuff. Love the sound here, nice dirty rock. The shouty vocals are just the right amount of growling for me and overall it's an enjoyable track, not going to break the top tier of this round but it's a fine track that I can enjoy. The long intro did it no favors but what followed the intro more than makes up for it, edging it over those below.
