4th spot and 16 Points goes to.....

No Mercy - Missing, submitted by
    Reberetta.

Well, I know of the group from their hit “Where do you go”, which I was a huge fan of the time (96 I recall). So what happens when you combine that hit with Everything but the Girls missing…..

Its very samey to “Where do you go”, but its not a bad cover either and I quite enjoy their twist on this track. The more I listened the more I enjoyed it. Very more-ish.

Question : Do the deserts miss the rain? Who wants wet sand?

I like Mark Owens voice but I dont think this track was suited to him. When Gary steps in it improves. Its nice, nothing spectacular so far but the build to the chorus and the chorus are fine but it pales in comparison to other TT tracks post comeback. Not a huge fan sadly Liz.

I was just thinking we'd had no Take That!

No Boyzone, Westlife, N*Sync or One Direction yet?

Now this is a classic boy band track. It gives me the feels and brings me right back to my youth. A tremendous chorus, enchanting harmonies and lovey dovey lyrics. Gold star.

Sadly 2 songs ranked higher though.

Not one of my fav 5ive tracks sadly, always felt it was a pound shop attempt at a BSB track. Its not bad to be fair, but it isn't great either and didn't do anything for me compared to other tracks submitted. Found it more annoying and forgettable.

My second choice was a One Direction song, I thought BTS were less likely to duplicate...

A controversial choice. But I really like this track.

The intro sets the tone and the 90’s boy band rap commences. Tony Mortimer is an underrated songwriter and the lyrical rhymes are smooth and clever. The chorus is beautiful and the whole song just works. Nice selection.

But man, the fcuking state of the lads in the video. Ah 90's.

very interesting to see 3 different 5ive songs. I really liked them at the time and still listen to them regularly.

My favourite East 17 song, very mellow and one that showcases what a great songwriter Tony Mortimer is.

last place is reserved for the 1 pointer....

NKOTB - Step by Step, submitted by

Initially I thought "80’s cheese and I love it". Its got those nostalgic feels and its extremely stereotypical boy band.

But as I assessed other tracks and re listened, it went down and down. The vocals aren't great to be kind and the beat gets old fast. Better boy band tracks and better NKOTB songs. Unlucky IA.

A beautiful track and one of the best of the early TT years. The lyrics are fabulous and the song works at sucking me in every time. Love the harmonies and the chorus is a joy. Good stuff. Its pure 90's boy band and it has great replay value. A worthy winner.

I enjoyed listening to all those much more than the drivel that would be played if a radio station had a boy band hour going on. Great tastes for this walrus, clearly!

I'm not confident for the next round (assuming its the covers/upgrade one), since the original version appeared in a previous round and didn't perform too well.

I've reentered one I previously entered for a covers round as it was unjustly panned. I'm worried it'll happen twice!

Phatkev should be only two points ahead of me, we were both on 46 after the last round. Shenanigans! :D

Some ones Im very familiar with and some covers that I hadnt heard of before. New bands and some new music for me.

Also 2 double picks in this round.

They are an... let's just call them... an acquired taste. Played it safe(ish) instead.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,061 ✭✭✭Irish Aris

ah, I think I will get another bottom 3, I relied too much on 80s classic.

I hope that's The Pet Shop Boys version of Always On My Mind ;)
(genuinely think it's one of the best covers of all time)
