Surely Waterford will push up on Limerick's puck out in 2nd half with the extra man.

That'll do. Regardless, of the result. Job done.

Yes good win and good workout, could of been a different story if Limerick weren't down to 14 men

    We move on

Good result is a bonus but the performance was more important. Matched Limerick physically and you could see the sharpness improving as the game went on. Encouraging. Cahill will be pleased.

Great to get the win, but to be honest much happier that they stood limerick up and stuck to their own game plan.

Think with a bit of sharpness we'll be a much bigger threat on goal. Sickening to still see Limerick at the constant fouling every time a defender wins the sliotar so they get the reset and can bring their players back in to help the defence, haven't seen a more negative tactic since Kilkenny used to wrap hurleys around players necks.

Billy Nolan has a great puckout

Good result and a great goal by Fagan. It looked for a long while that we were going to struggle to get past that 3ish point difference that has been between the teams the last few games but they dug in and got the goal and the points.

As an aside I hate the tactic in hurling where 3 or so players surround a player leaving them nowhere to go and potentially making them give away a free for too many steps. It's not technically a foul but I just find it so annoying and it feels like Limerick are always at it.

Nothing to lose now in our last 2 games

Salthill is a hard place to win

The player can handpass it away or drop it or break out if he's strong enough. It's bad enough that a slightly mistimed or misplaced shoulder is an automatic yellow. We need to value the physical contest as much as skill. Good win for Waterford. I thought some of the running was very good. Prunty was good and Lyons. They stood up to Limerick..but didn't try and take them on physically which was smart as they'd lose that. They played their own game.

Oh I know they can handpass or whatever but I find it takes away from the flow of the game and usually results in the ball dropping down and players are scrambling around in a ruck trying to get the ball back. Works great for Limerick because they have the physicality to do it and probably also come away with the ball from the rucks. Just not a fan of it haha.

What is the rule on where to place the ball for a free? Yesterday a number of times when Limerick got a free the guy that was fouled placed the ball a few feet from the incident. Then he left it for the free taker who picked it up and moved it forward again. When the free was finally taken it was no where near where the foul occurred. Neither the lines men or referee spotted this or appeared to care. I guess considering each team had a specialist free taker the distance is no a big factor, but just curious on the rule.

    Noticed that a bit

Descend by the Waterford players maybe and ref moved the frees up I'm guessing

You obviously have never played a hurling match.

Plenty of incidents in games where the free is moved forward because of player descent ?

This was just weak reffing where the freetaker steals a few yards

PTH. Very small point but it's dissent. Not descent.

Well there was a lot of ‘descent’ on view also so it could be argued that this lead to a lot of ‘dissent’...?

Are we going to descend into dissenting over descent and dissent?

Are the senior hurlers playing any challenge games this weekend?

    Unlikely, I would think.

The league games are effectively challenge matches, apart from the Limerick game on which there was a greater focus.

I'd like to think a similar effort is brought to the Tipp and Galway games. Obviously you don't want to be bringing the stretcher out, but now is the time to take your best team and give them a good run.

There's only 1 weekend off between the last League game ( vs Tipp on the 13th June ) and the first munster game ( vs Clare on the 27th ).

Waterford, if they beat Clare, will play Tipp on 4th July. Therefore, I think you will see a lot of shadow boxing in the Waterford/Tipp league match.

I think challenge matches still aren't allowed under government restrictions

Am I the only one who thinks we barely scraped that win and would have been comprehensively beaten only for the fact that they had 14 men for most of the game?

I know its impossible to tell the impact of being a man up but I thought Limerick were all over us to be honest.

    One game at a time
