Second half is worse than the first.
    Clare are very poor.

I think that's harsh on Clare.

You'll aways get bad wides in the first round of championship.

The lack of a crowd will deaded any game.

Think when Bennet got torpedoed by a Clare player and swung on there and Clare get a sideline it was the chance dead really.

Glad that I was proven wrong that a ref cant affect a game when all 3 rte panelists agreed at half time he affected it by giving a non-penalty and sin binning a player when they shouldnt have been sin binned.

darn we done well to get it back to 3 points but Clare better team overall and deserved the win.

We now turn our attention to the qualifiers with the 1st round down for the 17th July were we will play one of the losing Leinster Championship teams. Ideal draw would be Laois or Antrim and we avoid Galway/Dublin/Kilkenny and Wexford but guess that comes down to luck of the draw monday week

We need Prunty and Barron back

It proves again that Waterford dont handle being favourites. Started the game with an awful attitude. Our work rate and commitment was sh1te in comparison to Clare's. An improved second half performance doesn't forgive that awful first half. We're not that good that we can go out without commitment and work rate. Management take a bit of blame as well.

Cant see Cahill sticking around for a third year and then WTF are going to do

That was a four point hiding!

Hard to believe we were still in it until the ref made the error for the Conlon swipe on Kieran Bennett. It put Clare out to four points.

Fair play to Austin Gleeson and Stephen Bennett, they battled all the way.

Cahill gets the plaudits he has to take the criticism. Waterford were not ready for Clares intensity at all. They weren't up for it for the whole first half. They ll get better but Cahill has work to do here. Lohan had Clare playing like Clare teams of old..desperately honest and physical but the wides. They ll have to improve alot in tbe scoring stakes to beat Tipperary. They are capable of it though its a big ask.

While we lost that on the pitch I would really question sacrificing Calum Lyons for so long on Tony Kelly. Made only worse by keeping Aussie so deep when he was the one guy who looked like he could make something happen.

Clare copied the template Derek McGrath used for us and we seemed to have no idea what to do. Really bad distribution into the our full forward line.

I'm just amazed we were so poor. the first half was absolutely desperate, no score from play from the forwards says it all. we had more intensity in the league game against limerick than we showed in the first half today.

Aussie and Stephen Bennett did well in second half but a really abject team performance overall and really surprising for me, didn't see it coming.

no game for 3 weeks will hopefully allow injuries to clear up, then it's 4 games in 5 weeks if we are to progress.

Can see Cahill finishing up with Waterford after this season and joining Tipp tbh lads.

Dunno if Sheedy will bother with us after this season with a transitional team.

If we keep playing like this he might have to stick with us :pac:

    Can see that too

In Waterford's case it will be a tough recruitment if that comes to fruition

And Waterford will improve hugely. But there's no team winning 4 games in 5 weeks. That was the All Ireland gone today.

Cahill got it all wrong today.. Callum Lyons sacrificed to mark Tony Kelly and Aussie like a spare man as he was played so deep..
We had no half forward line today.. Fagen, Hogan and Prendergast were nowhere to be seen.. Think the team and management were thinking of Tipp next week and took their eye of the game in hand..
On a plus side, we won't play ss bad sgain.. Time to reflect and work on what has to be done for the next game in a few weeks..

Hope you are correct. A truer measure of Lowhan’s Lazarus like abilities will be how his warriors get on next weekend v Tipp. Lohans performance during the second ‘sos uisce’ was a real throw back/old school……totally animated and loads of ‘Strong language’ aimed at specific players and a deranged demeanour

Tipp will win handy next weekend..
Waterford didn't show up today and were nearly left back into the game by a poor Clare side..
The standard of hurling today was very poor from both teams, especially Waterford

Well done to Clare they deserved to win
A terrible weekend for Waterford GAA. Footballers got hockeyed, senior hurlers didn't turn up ,camogie team beaten and have regressed under new manager

I think that was in relation to winning turn overs and frees and then losing those frees by goading Waterford players. He was right to be annoyed.

    Very negative post

Missed Barron big time today. No goals for Clare apart from penalty but paid for this by no ball into our forwards. Ref was very poor and gave them 1-4 just when Waterford were getting up to pace of game. Won’t play that bad again and plenty of motivation now for rest of campaign.

  • Registered Users Posts: 26 Patchin

Yeah we were poor and still beat you handy.
Best not dismiss teams who actually know how to win all irelands.

There's no need for that kind of thing

  • Registered Users Posts: 494 ✭✭Mulbert

I was amazed by that performance today. Looked like lads didn't know what to do in possession.

I wouldn't blame anything on the full forwards really. They hardly got one decent ball in the entirety on the game.

As bad as the general play was the management must be freaking out after that. Looked like they were a team waiting for something to happen for them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,208 ✭✭✭formerlyET

I've seen us win more all irelands than you and your grandchildren will in Waterford.

That was a real s**t show. Didn’t see it coming and hard to see us picking up the pieces.

Clare were full value for the win but Waterford made it easy for them ; no aggression (apart from Aussie and Stephen) ; too many poorly directed passes, usually to someone who was being marked (making it a 50/50 ball) ; fumbling, slipping too much when in possession ….the list goes on. Will we see Kevin start another game …. Cahill could easily have taken off about 12 other players.

I don’t think Liam Sheedy will lose much sleep this week.

While I agree with you keep in mind there was only 8 of last years side playing today.

We can have no.complaints there today, well beaten by a team more up for it

Bit worrying the lack of work rate (shades of all ireland again,a bad trend to be seeing)and poor options taken, how many times was a ball cleared/placed into unmarked clare players

First touch wasnt at level required, forwards cleaned out in the air....midfield cleaned out and near zero turnovers (barron a big loss)

Given players we were missing (basically half the spine)and effect it had on balance of team....we have room for improvements, but i feel its something fundamentally lacking in the ability to apply pressure and deal with adversity though....

This great running game and pressure fell apart ,maybe an option would been try kevin moran as a ball winner upfront as fagan had an off day

Blaming ref/sin bins is pointless as a 10 point plus victory for clare wouldnt have been out of place
