Why didn't the judge challenge the defence lawyer with regard to the line of questioning?

Did the rapist really believe that there was even a 1% chance that a jury could be convinced of the absurd idea of a 16-year-old girl from a good family agreeing to have sex with a 14-year-old (the age of the rapist at the time of his crime) boy from a dysfunctional family?

Besides, the rapist couldn't have known what underwear the victim was wearing before he attacked her. So why did the judge allow it to be brought up in court?
