Restoring wooden chairs

My wife bought 8 oak chairs in a pub auction that need a bit of tlc. There's a general pub smell and grime and some light stains nothing major. What would the best way to clean them up

Thanks for that .so i was thinking maybeclean the chairs with this rustins product, Sand them down then maybe a clear varnish or what would you suggest?

I wouldn't varnish them.

Use stains instead.

if you were planning on sanding them anyway, cleaning them first would be a waste of time. what's the finish like on them?
