God help Sam, that's a seriously cruel finish.

He might have to put lights on his bike

He has 35 minutes to get there. Fingers crossed

The Slovenians are beasts. Fine job by Richie Porte, only a few seconds behind

Seems like a tight cut off time

What a finish, pogacar one last push looked good then roglic just hit another gear at the very end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,288 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

The cut off is 37:30 or so.

That was just epic stuff at the end. I wish people knew how great the TDF is. You have to have so much respect for those guys pushing themselves to such limits.

Bennett currently 22min down, should be grand

    Velofacts.com giving it as 34m41s

Pogacar is one hell of a cyclist for a soon to be 22 year old and very little support. If he can stay consistent he'll have many GT wins.

Well said, that was just epic at the end there.

Has he even started the climb yet? He's going to lose a lot more.

They have it on screen as the lads go over. 37:36

    Meanwhile in the KOM

    66 Pogacar
    63 Roglic
    51 Lopez

Magnificent stuff at the end. Absolutely brutal gradients. Roglic dropped Pogacar, I thought it was going to be the other way around.

Wiggins was saying something along the lines of that there is a specific altitude that oxygen levels just suddenly drop off. It was probably around the time when Lopez went off and the group fell apart.

The climb is nearly an hour, he's over halfway up.
The tour live data site had data up til 5 mins after the end. Greipel, Coquard & Debuscherre were all 4-5 mins behind the Bennett group, they are in danger of missing the cut.

From experience on a bike once your getting to 1600 metres you find a noticeable difference each 200 metres you go higher.

Not really given how much time Alaphilippe lost after being caught in the break.

He’s only going back to help Sam :):)

The key is to be in the main gruppeto. Time won't really matter if there's 80 of them in it

That’s Sam coming in now 7 mins ahead of cut off

If it's outside the time limit he'll be deducted points even if the grupetto is allowed to continue

But someone suggested in the Sam thread that points deduction will happen in that case

He made it! Fair play to him. Tomorrow could be rough if there are GC attacks early on.

By all account all the sprinters were together. So if Sam was docked points, they'
    d all be docked points

    Anyway, they all made it.

Alot of people i know just dont get why i enjoy watching cycling so much.
A finish like that with whats at stake makes all the anticipation before it all kicks off so worth it.

Thrilling....easily the best sporting event of 2020 imho.

The dynamic at the end there with Team Bahrain detonating, Jumbo riders dropping off etc. was fascinating.

A couple of times it looked like Pog was going to catch Rog but it just wasn't to be. Hopefully more fireworks tomorrow
