At the start it was stated on twitter it was coffee. Varadkar coffee was trending. Only until Leo stated there it was milkshake was it confirmed otherwise.

Do you think it makes a difference whether it was coffee or milkshake? The liquid is irrelevant, assault is assault. Thankfully the Gardaí will likely find, prosecute and charge this individual.

So, instead of simply saying "Substance thrown at Varadkar", you took the fake news approach?

    Good man.

Where did your post about her being a member of PBP go?

I'm not trying to put you on the spot here, but what would that look like for Ireland? A few concrete examples of this socialist society we are moving towards.

With ever more frequency capitalism is having to be bailed out by socialism. This is only going to increase the further down the path to automation we go. Who is going to buy the products produced by capitalism when nobody has a job? It'll be subsidised by the government in one form or another.

Socialism is literally saving the world economy at the moment. If we stuck to the free market we'd have been in the ****ter months ago. Governments are keeping capitalism afloat.

    Corporate socialism.

Whether people want it or not is irrelevant. Capitalism/corporatism is eating itself. We're heading for a socialist society.

No we are not - the simple fact is (and I hate to be the one to break this to you) the magic money trees don’t actually exist.

Haha, I hope you're relatively young and are around to see how much you've been codded all along.

There's always a magic money tree when it comes to bailing out banks and massive corporations.

Cheap shot really. Should be jailed for it.

So the former Taoiseach gets liquid thrown at him, and this person is able to flee on foot and evade capture? Wtf..

You are confusing “borrowing” with “socialism”. They are different concepts.

That's all good - very 101 'What is wrong with capitalism' sort of stuff. We get it. We might even agree with some of it.

A few examples of what this socialist future for Ireland above and beyond what we already have in our social democracy would be good though.

Oh you’re one of those - the “gubbermint” is to blame for all your problems and you don’t understand how banking, the economy or business actually works?

    Has she been identified?
It's far too late to be looking back over 36 pages. She looks like a kid just looking for points (not excusing what she did).
I wouldn't agree with throwing anything at anyone, but when politicians are seeming to dictate peoples lives, or when their decisions heavily/drastically effect peoples lives, I can understand somebody being frustrated enough to do something like that.
However today, in the current environment, I can't imagine Leo did anything that would have frustrated her enough to do that. If it is Covid-19 related, then she comes off even worse imho.
    Stupid, pointless thing to do.

Where has the EU 750billion covid fund come from??

    From the EU....

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,581 ✭✭✭dubrov

But the ECB deosnt have enough on deposit to fund this either....so where is the money coming from?

The ECB can print as much money as they like but there are secondary effects which can be unpredictsble.

I hope he's okay and that's as someone who deeply dislikes LV's way of politics but I never want to see a Job Cox type situation in Ireland. This and the burning out of Martin Kenny's of SF's car outside of his family home seems to be an confrontation of public against public representatives. I would have hoped ireland was above this.

The ECB hasnt got 750billion on deposit to lend??

Ireland a country running a 15 to 20 billion deficit is to be a net contributor (of circa 2 billion)....we dont have this 2 billion lying about and its expected we are to borrow from the ECB to fund this

But the ECB deosnt have enough on deposit to fund this either....so where is the money coming from?

    European Central Bank

It can "print" money if it wants. And it likely will have to in order to try to protect against a deflationary spiral over the short to medium term.

Particularly given the roughly 10% increase in EURUSD over the past 6 months. Although they have been thus far non-committal on specific actions to counter that directly. They are instead planning to base monetary action on a 2% target inflation rate.

Ah now a fat Sjw with a skateboard is hardly comparable with someone burning a car out - they are both simple ***** but one’s a bit more dangerous than the ofher.

A direct attack/action against a person would be a little more dangerous than an attack on one of their material possessions - no?

that's disgraceful! has there been any sort of official commnet made?

lucky it was an iced coffee rather than a latte, else that would have been horrific.

what was her beef? i hope its something legit (the point she was trying to make, not the action!)that she can stand by. i suppose it could also be a 16 y/o doing a dare.

Exactly but this lad is proclaiming there no such thing as a magic money tree.....when they essential magiced up 750billion a few weeks ago

    WWI. Not WWII

We are nowhere near a healthy rate of inflation, never mind hyperinflation.

US also target 2%. However they recently decided to allow an average target rate of 2% - which effectively permits them to break the 2% in the short term.

Pretty sure mikey healy-rae also had some sort of fire in similar circumstances down in kerry in sameish time frame

    Comparing the two in question?

You live in a beautiful example of post-war Social Democracy. Free education, social housing, subsidised public transport, semi-state companies, social welfare, public service broadcasting, investments in civic spaces, the arts council, and so on, and so forth.

The lack of any sort of realisation of this is what puzzles me most. Advocate for change, but these absolute nutjobs on the extremes of the left and the right propose nothing only hate, chaos, and violence.
Yeah I just don't get it. Look at the amount paid in welfare, look at the Covid payment. Nobody will get rich off them obviously but they are still generous for welfare payments. So much of it seems for show. And grossly stupid and ignorant.

I'm starting a postgraduate course soon worth €4,500 - and on the Higher Education Authority's Springboard programme, I only have to pay €450. I'm not even a jobseeker! It's free for them.

Despite the stretched health service, the Covid virus has been managed so well overall in this country (obviously bumps on the road because it's brand new and a learning curve for everyone).

There is no way that there aren't problems of course - especially with housing and health. There is no way there aren't crooked gobshyte politicians either. But there is a huge amount of whining about nothing specific at the wrong people. It's just "der politicians".

It is coming from the international bond markets. Effectively the EU is issuing “Government Debt” and selling it to investors with many of those being bodies such as pension funds etc.

You want a prison sentence for someone throwing coffee on someone else. What if someone threw coffee over you, do you think they’d go to prison.

If somebody did that to me, they would instantly know they did wrong. The Prescott incident would be handbags compared to my one.
