Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield

I’m a bit loathe to chastise this very much loved song but it’s just not my thing again. The peaks are too understated, much like Big In Japan in the previous round.

You should have submitted this in my Walrus Liz, guaranteed top-5 and possible top-3. Great song!!

    Led Zeppelin - Gallows Pole

Unlike in the Rock’N’Roll round, Led Zep doesn’t come up trumps here unfortunately. It’s a bit of a chore if I’m honest, I struggled with where to place it as it didn’t speak to me but I enjoyed parts of it. So here seems about right.

    Yes, great song.

No idea what I entered for this, I can tell you it definitely wasn't Scooter.

Hopefully it wasn't Bob Dylan or this will not end well.

Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) - David Bowie

Despite the Monster playlist seemingly struggling with this round, I didn’t mind this track. I might be the only person in the world who isn’t enamoured with Bowie’s voice I think though, particularly in this track I just find it very ordinary.

    Sawduck

    Stranglers - No More Heroes

Now this I can groove to. A nice little punk number, of which my knowledge isn’t fantastic admittedly. I enjoyed this track.

    Deja Boo

    Guitar Man - David Gates

Someone (Pretzill iirc) entered a Bread song in my last Walrus too and I think it fared similar to this one. It’s a nice mellow sound and I can dig that.

This is a groovy tune that I can get behind. Nice entry, sweet guitar play.

Ok, now I think I see the consistency in the entries from this player. They all have a number in them? No… that’s not quite it… Frankly though this is one of my least favourite Eagles songs. It’s all very meh.

    You're a broken man

    Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street

Ah man, like that sax solo alone is worth about 8 points. The only thing stopping this from being higher is the quality of the tunes above it. Great choice

    The purple tin

    David Bowie: Suffragette City

Now THIS is Bowie I can enjoy. I guess it must be the previous song because the vocals are so so much better in this one. Nice choice.

    Green&Red

Wings - Band on the Run

Slow start for this had it much lower in the rankings. Really kicks off about 2.16 into the song though and boy it was worth the wait. Another solid track selection here.

This is just so fun, and amazing. It’s such a simple concept for a song but pulled off excellently by the master. Inside knowledge helps sometimes when you know that Queen’s albums were basically my lullabies, my mother adored them.

ABBA - Does Your Mother Know?

ABBA tracks are risky with me, as poor ould Homer learned in the previous Walrus I ran. I have a certain type of ABBA track I enjoy, and I pretty much hate the rest.

Lucky for the entrant then that this is probably one of my faves :D Great selection.

    Abba Does Your Mother Know?

I considered submitting this one as a guilty pleasure in another Walrus currently running. Cheesy but fun.

Everybody wants to rule the world - Tears for fears

Haha, this round’s ‘cheat code’. If anyone was paying attention to Irish Aris’ Walrus, I actually won a round with this entry, so it was always doing well here. And in fairness, it’s a bloody amazing choon.

Second time it’s been entered (albeit the other time was a cover) in this contest, and it does well once again. Will we see it pop up again? Time will tell….

Certainly one track, if not more were selected in different categories.

    I respectfully disagree.

In fairness I didn't even know that it was entered by himself previously... i racked my brain for this round.. i had numerous other selections that I thought were prior to 86 but were 87.

Knew it would do well after last round

    Three amazing songs!!!
The Queen song is really one of their great songs that don't get much airplay unfortunately.
And great to see a less obvious ABBA song
As for Tears For Fears, what Necro said. Iconic 80s!!

Thou must not mess with REO Speedwagon. And indeed I don’t, it’s a very good choice from the player here to earn him his first podium of this contest.

The Hooters - All You Zombies

This is my find of the tournament so far. What a track. I really really wanted to give this top spot, but there was one song that beat it out.

And I don’t think the entrant will have many complaints after it’s revealed. But thanks for this entry. Love it.

    Fair play LeVar.
Hooters could be hit and miss but this and another 2-3 songs are really top notch!

    Lembur Kuring - Yanti Bersaudara

I can only assume the entrant was on some form of hallucinogenics at the time of submission that make this an enjoyable experience.

But unfortunately, I’m all out of mushrooms, and thus it remains at the bottom of the pile.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,293 ✭✭✭Reberetta

I thought I couldn't take a band called The Hooters seriously, but now that I've listened to that song, I know I can't take them seriously.

Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks

I can almost hear the grinding of QB’s teeth from here in Sligo. But she is not the judge, and I am forever in love with Stevie Nicks and this track.

It’s a deserving table topper here for me, and a solid solid entry . Bravo/Brava :P

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 5,495 Mod ✭✭✭✭Irish Aris

A worthy winner of the category!!

And I will definitely give you the bottom 3 Necro. Very likely I would have placed bottom 3 too

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,293 ✭✭✭Reberetta

Edge Of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks. Obscure, risky entry there.:P

I think Yanti Bersaudara deserved top spot. Unless you have ingested mushrooms beforehand to fully experience its majesty, you haven't really given it a shot.

EDIT: Also, you should listen to it naked, smeared in oil from an olive tree.
