Decided to give the weekend league a go for the first time in two years tonight. Managed to get 7 wins from 10 games played and just going to aim for 14 wins, so should be achievable.

I noticed a huge difference in gameplay from rivals. My players were unreactive for a lot of the games and the delay and general feeling of the game mode was pretty shocking. Is this the norm?

Any advice you lads have for me? I'm running a first owner RTG so I'm not putting myself under any pressure, just trying to enjoy it. Going to play up to 10 games tomorrow and the rest Sunday.

You won 7 out of your first 10 weekend league games having not played it in 2 years? We should be asking you for advice not the other way round haha.

Best advice I can give is when you lose a game, take a break for 15-20 mins, go and do something else and then go back to it. Its really easy to fall into a rut and before you know it you have ruined your WL.

Funny enough I find it the opposite, for me WL is really smooth and Rivals games feel like that for me. Though I haven't played tonight, I think Fridays in general the servers are getting hammered so when you play tomorrow the games might feel better.

Twas a false alarm went 6 wins in 8 earlier came back and just lost 5 so I'm off to bed. Wl giveth and wl taketh away

Haha, some of those wins were very close. I'm sure I'll struggle a bit more tomorrow. Just trying to enjoy it, won't play it every week I'd say.

Managed to get some games in on the PS5 - not sure why but I felt like I was playing unreal. 4 games, 4 wins. Rodrigo with at least a hat trick in each of the 4 games. Saint-Max with 8 goals too.

Got the 100k pack for 50 rivals wins too - Szcezny. Not bad, not great. Had 15 duplicates :pac:

That's exactly what I did, and haven't had consecutive losses as of yet.

Just opened an untradeable mega players pack there, 1st 10 players, 7 of them are keepers rated 81 and above, from Courtois to Donnaruma down to Mignolet, 7 keepers what am i going do with all of them, i have Handanovic from another pack to, lol

Last year, I think I packed most of the PL top strikers; Aguero, Kane, Salah

This year, it's 100% keepers; Allison twice, Courtois twice, Oblak, Handanovic, Neuer, Lloris. Its why i've got Van Der Sar 90% done. Just pumping the untradeable high rated keepers into him.

Screw it, I said, lets try some League SBCs. Noticed I had 7 untradable players for Monaco (excluding Ben yeddar), so bought the last three I needed.

Packed Kane :P So, instantly in some level of profit. Not insane levels. But turned a lot of untradeables into a decent chunk of coinage.

I actually think its one of the most fair skills moves, it requires timing to get it right and there is far more risk then most skill moves. If you get it wrong you will absolutely lose possession, while most skill moves that people spam they might end up in the not ideal place but will maintain possession the vast majority of the time.

Its more likely the ball will deflect off the defender who blocked it and go back to you and leave you 1 v 1 with the keeper to score

I don't agree at all. If you get it wrong its a 50/50 at best, especially in the box when its a quick reaction header for somebody. And if you get it right its nearly impossible to defend

I've also never seen it happen once in a professional football match, its utterly ridiculous.

I think that depends on your defenders and the situation, people try it all the time but it almost never comes off unless I am pressing/chasing the game.

What I think it should be is limited to certain flair players as in real life it requires a huge about of skill to use so only a handful of players ever try it during a match.

Also if you have never seen it in a professional match, please enjoy this video of Neymar doing about 50 of them.

I seen 84 Ollie Watkins mentioned here a few days back so decided to buy him on thursday and my god, he is insane, he never misses. CF in a false 9, 21 in 9 games but now im about to tackle WL with him, so he'll be about 21 in 30 by sunday, lol

I feel like Van Dijk is just a little too slow at the back against top level attackers and it has cost me games.

I noticed that the vast majority of players seem to prefer Gomez, even for players top WL players where clearly price isn't a consideration.

I am thinking of getting IF Gomez to replace VVD and partner Varane. Anyone tried both?

Would Gomez just cost me different types of goals or is the extra pace going to be a big improvement?

I've bought and sold VVD twice, and neither time did I feel he was special. I know others have, but for his price, I really didn't think he was a massive upgrade on Milato.

Ake has been just as good for me for over 40 times less the price.

Gomez and Varane are the two best CB’s in the game at the moment, in my opinion.

Yeah, I read that too. I’d say mid icon for the top tier rewards, base icon for middle tier.

Not too sure if I’m arsed this year going for swaps... so much stress last year doing it.

On VVD I’ve played 520 games with him, he’s unreal unless you’re chasing back. He needs a pace increase to the best in the game but I’ll never get the money back I payed for him so I’m kinda stuck with him for now.

How does WL matchmaking work? Is it done by win count? If so Sunday should theoretically be the easiest?

Think it's based on form, you'll match against players within - 5 or +5 range of your form. So if you're 3-0 you can match against someone from 8-0 to 0-2

4321... give it a shot. Love that formation this year. A CDM like Zakaria in midfield, playmaker one side and all-rounder the other.

Finding the gameplay very smooth this weekend. On a nice win streak that has pushed me from just over 1000 SR to 1350+ SR. Skill moves and everything are working for me and blazing past opponents. Saint-Max and Rodrigo banging in goals for fun.

Surprised by how seamlessly Gomez has slotted into my team in place of Van Dijk. I do miss being able to steam role people and I am definitely weaker defending corners but he is just far more agile and responsive.

Only played 2 WL games so far (2-0) as I wanted to get my 30 Div Rivals games done first and get comfortable with the team changes.

I have brought him on as a sub for the last 20 mins of games and he definitely helps to stretch the play and provides a great option for corners. Just wish he had 4 star skills moves.
