Fair play to Sony for standing up for consumers here, it's a pretty unprecedented move.

Mind boggling how bad the game appears to be. The PS4 and XBO aren't exactly afterthoughts - those consoles are responsible for more Witcher 3 sales than PC is, and for the vast majority of Cyberpunk's development cycle and its target release date, they would or should have been the primary platform with the newer consoles not expected to be out for at least a year after the game.

This isn't anything to do with standing up for consumers. They are pissed CDPR told people to request refunds without talking to Sony first.

Yeah it's totally anti consumer. It's basically Sony throwing their toys out of the pram because CD Projekt are exposing Sony's pretty much illegal refund policy, which is the fact that they have none.

I’d be of the opinion that Sony is absolutely not acting out of some sort of pro-consumer benevolence here and it’s silly to think they’re acting out of some fundamental decency. But I also believe that the PS4 version of Cyberpunk is a disgrace that shouldn’t be for sale in its current state (same for Xbox One).

Sony wouldn't approve refunds the other day so it's nothing to do with standing up for consumers. They've done it because CD told people to refund and Sony have gotten in a huff because they've been backed into a corner.

And probably to stop more people from buying the game who would then look for refunds

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,282 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Either they pulled it because it makes them look really bad for initially refusing refunds (seeing as CDPR basically tried to shift blame to them) or worse yet because Sony does not believe it's actually going to be fixed and therefore are not willing to let customers wait for a patch which is scary. Either way if I were Sony I'd be furious with CDPR.

There's no shifting the blame. If you buy a game the contract is with the seller. Sony are the only ones that can offer a refund. CDPR can't. Firstly they aren't obliged to by law and secondly it wouldn't work as it would be a complete mess with taxes.

Telling people to get a refund from Sony is exactly what people should do that want a refund. It's up to Sony to respect consumer laws.

How did CDPR release it when it was such an absolute shambles. Did they think people weren't going to notice?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

They shouldn't have to consult Sony. Isn't one of the huge benefits of consoles both as studio and a customer supposed to be that the console platform takes care of all this stuff? Just where the hell do all these publishing fees and customer subscription fees go? Into the feckin' void. Boggles my mind people yearly sub fees for basically nothing.

All platforms seem to be reluctantly adding these refund options which shows you how behind the video game industry is at basic consumer rights. Let's not forget Valve had to get into legal trouble more than once before they added their refund options. But GOG has had a strong refund policy far longer (which I can personally vouch for as top tier) and it only got better over time.

Of course they knew but they wanted to cash in and thought they could get away with post-launch patches.

There's a separate Parsnips thread as well... the Cyberpunk fiasco is one of the gaming stories of the year and news is coming out daily about it. Surely that's all you need for allowing it in Game News?

I see Best Buy are now offering refunds on purchases of the PS4 and XB1 versions of Cyberpunk, even if they have been opened - a big departure from their normal return policy.

So KFC are allegedly getting into the console market, with the "KFConsole". Basically a custom PC with a built in chicken warmer. Yes. And it's allegedly legit, specs below. CoolerMaster are in on it (it's a custom version of one of their cases), and everyone thought it was a joke until today when specs were released. I still reckon it's a joke, as it'll probably cost over $2000 and will be very limited.

If it is a joke, 10/10 for effort at least. If it's real... well... I dunno really!

    - Cooler Master's KFConsole promises "the latest titles in stunning 4k, 240fps"
    - The company's mod team, led by the Swedish craftsman "Timpelay", is responsible for this beauty, including:
    > Chassis: Custom build of Cooler Master's NC100 (about $200 USD)
    > Intel Nuc 9 Extreme Compute Element: A PCIe-based module with an 9th Gen Intel mobile chip inside, basically housing multiple components in one easy-to-use container (about $1,000)
    > GPU: An unknown Asus RTX-supported graphics card in the rig's "hot-swappable GPU slot" (about $250 - $500)
    > SSD: Two (2) Seagate Barracuda / Firecuda 1TB SSD (about $200)
    > VR-ready with Ray-Tracing technology, 240FPS with 240Hz output, and 4K-quality gaming

Yeah, don't know what to make of it if real. Maybe the PC heads can talk about the legitimacy of the parts. As I said, I still think it's a joke but serious effort put into it if it is. If it is real, well, fair play for trying something different! https://landing.coolermaster.com/kfconsole/

Bit disappointed that they haven’t given a name for the OS it’ll use, but I think we all agree it should be called “Kernel Sanders”.

It's real alright, they teased it a few months back and revealed it yesterday :pac:

Basically, the heat generated by the internal components "could" keep chicken the size of 2 mini fillets warm for snacking reasons.
I doubt anyone would ever put food into the thing for real though :D

I think you underestimate how lazy gamers are.

I just installed a beer fridge so I don't have to walk to the kitchen. Having some tasty chicken to hand too ...........

Just saw a gaming news link to a guy who is a sex addict and saw a sexually suggestive ad on twitch which made him jizz on his pc monitor causing a short circuit fire and his apartment to black out. He's now suing twitch for 20 million..... 2020, the year that keeps on giving.

There's no way KFC are seriously coming out with their own gaming console. I could imagine them coming out with a branded gaming PC. That could have a hope in hell of selling, given the name value, novelty value and maybe even some pro-customer design innovations for an off-the-shelf item like that.

But an actual proper console with its own OS and ecosystem of games, features and services? :pac:
