Our daffs are blooming already. They were emerging before Christmas but that week of frost put a stop to their gallop.

    Feckin overachievers 😂🤣🤣

Honestly lads this windy wet dreary January weather can just do one at this stage.

Stay positive @Loughc , January is half over and there is a bank holiday coming up 👍️

Ah don’t mind me I’m feeling sorry for myself. Long week in work and was up at 7am with the little man this morning.

And it's to get a lot colder from tonight by all accounts.

I hear ya. It's never-ending at this stage! And more frost and ice to look forward to next week. 🥶

I'm so glad we have a bank holiday to look forward to after this.

@Heroditas I wish it was a slow meter, hate to think what next bill will be!!

@Caranica love the tree, definitely would keeping up.

@Loughc I hear you about the weather, damp, windy and cold every day. Maybe we’ll get some snow next week to beak it up!

Another busy weekend, can’t wait for a quiet one with nothing to do. The Sunday fear is alive and kicking here :(

    Morning all,

@pigtail33 I got a little laugh from your post about the poinsettias...Mr. CL bought two this Christmas & when he brought them home, I said "oh wonderful, another two to add my list of dead poinsettias". Other plants I can keep alive, poinsettias take one look at me and wilt on the spot 😂

    @Caranica that tree is beautiful!

Feeling a bit meh this morning and trying to shake it off. Long night with our nearly 3 year old who still doesn't sleep, was up for over two hours with her last night. She wasn't awake for all of it, but after the second time of getting out of bed to her, I was wide awake & it took forever (plus another three trips to her room) to get back to sleep 😴

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Sorry to hear that CL, the broken sleep is a killer. I am use to it and bother me too much however OH, 3 kids later, still finds it hard. Last one (nearly 4) wakes every night and comes into our bed however thankfully usually goes back to sleep pretty quickly.

Nice bright start here, always say I will take the dry, cold weather over the mild and wet any day of the week.

I've actually started to feel sorry for the poinsettia that comes into my house. Although this year, I think I picked up a dud in the shop. When I took the plastic sleeve off it, half the leaves came off with it.

Afternoon everyone how is everyone doing?

Bitterly cold with blue skies got a nice walk earlier I’m the same I will take that cold over wet any day

It is nice to have the bank holiday to look forward to, I did a bit of wardrobe clear out yesterday of pieces that didn’t bring me joy anymore 😂😂 (Marie Kondo method) so I did a little online shop this morning of day to day basics that I need I even threw in a few candles with my shop

Beautiful tree @Caranica gorgeous to look at

I was the same @Heroditas when doing my food shop planned for the week with the weather in mind a few supplies for my Mam too. I am going to makes some winter warmers myself, I even bought bake at home rolls should it be a big freeze I don’t have to worry about bread

Roast chicken with all the trimmings this evening

Take care of yourselves Elves xx

Just had a lovely lunchtime walk, it's a lovely bright day and not actually that cold once you are walking. Much nicer than milder, damp weather! Back home to a bowl of leek and potato soup - honestly, the soup maker is one of the best kitchen appliances!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 619 ✭✭✭OUTDOORLASS

Hi Pigtail 33, I love poinsettia. They dont like draughts...so dont put them on a window. No extremes of heat, so not near a rad. Dont over or under water.

i give it a good drenching once a week with cold tea. I had one til Sept one year and it died when we were on holidays......

I keep mine in nice pot on Kitchen table.

13 hour working day done hopefully that’s the end of the madness for another month.

On the upside weather was lovely today. Nice and cold but no wind or rain.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭BK5

Good to hear a lot of you keeping busy with clear outs and walks etc. Hope some of you get a goods night sleep soon 🤞

Just getting ready to de-frost the car here, it really does look like Christmas this morning 😄

Saw a hack on Twitter this morning. Hot water in a ziplock bag and rub it over the ice. Much safer than free flowing water and less work than the other options.

Thanks for all your lovely tree comments folks. It's up for another 10 days or so. Just too busy at weekends and I'm not facing it after work of an evening. So I get to enjoy it instead.

Hope everyone can stay warm and safe. My phone says it's -4 this morning ❄️ Obviously @Jude13 it's more than a little bit warmer where you are. Right now I'm very jealous 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Yeah, -4 out my neck of the woods this morning, de-icing the car at 6.15am was not a lot of fun, was the city centre before I had feeling back in my fingertips!!

Still, beats the rain. We start back training the boys & girls teams tonight so will be hoping for clear (albeit cold) weather as not sure I could face a wet start to the season.

Sleep pattern slowly inching towards normality for me so life is returning to normal, all I need to do now is keep work at arms length and all will be well.

Chilly start here as well, car well frozen out there, will check temperature when dropping kids to school in a bit. Even though I don't think we get it quiet as bad as inland areas as we are close to the sea. Would take this weather over the wet and mild any day though.

Hope all got through 'Blue Monday' ok!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,663 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

Blue Monday was an exceptionally crappy day at work for me, so it lived up to it's name! Roll on Blue Friday!! 😂

    Brrrrr, what a chilly morning. ❄️ ❄️

This chilly frosty morning really has peak Christmas vibes to it :)

Happy Tuesday everyone, it's a balmy -2 here this morning 😀. Be careful on the roads.

-2 according to car, looks like the heating will be a getting a hammering next few days!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,479 ✭✭✭CheerLouth

Chilly but bright start to the day here. We are in the country so can go out and start the car a few minutes before we leave to let it warm up and defrost. Will try get out for a walk later - our local club are doing the "Every Step Counts" challenge so which I'm finding great motivation to keep the steps up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭pigtail33

-3 out my way this morning. I am in the office today, so had to defrost the car at 6:30. I've already eaten my porridge and drinking my coffee now and I think I am just starting to thaw.

As most have said though, I much rather the cold, crisp, bright days over the warmer, but wetter and windier ones. You can almost start to feel the Spring in the air.

Beautiful sky out there got out for a walk earlier, I feel like I’ve reached the 3pm slump already and it’s not even lunchtime

I hear you! Work finally getting back to normal levels of crazy today. Looking forward to the weekend as I am away this weekend!

Same slump has hit early today too, deffo going to get out for a walk tonight while it's clear out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,479 ✭✭✭CheerLouth

Just back from a walk, it is lovely out there and dare I say it, there's actually a bit of heat in that sun!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Definitely warmer in the sun. At least the washing I put out today isn't frozen like the sheet was yesterday morning!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,971 ✭✭✭SarahLil

There’s something about walking out in that crisp weather it’s great for clearing the head 👌

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,017 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

I love it. It’s definitely great for the head. Bad for the hands that I forgot my gloves tho. D’oh!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,586 ✭✭✭tscul32

Just back from a lovely walk with the dog, the air is so crisp, love the cold. We are being promised teeny bits if snow but will see if they happen - usually don't.

I use the water in the zip lock bag and it's very effective, plus keeps your hands warm while doing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,922 ✭✭✭Cork Lass

Fabulous cold but crisp day here in Cork. Went for a swim around lunchtime and it was cold but the sunshine made it very enjoyable. I've just started walking again as I've had lots of problems with my knee and hip over the last few months - almost an hour to do 2km but it was lovely to be out on an evening like this.

Another beautiful morning out there, icy but clear skies. Very festive weather out there, did get the urge to play some Christmas music but did resist... for now

They were discussing on the radio yesterday how January just seems to last forever I was nodding along listening to it. Yep every year it seems to take forever to get through it.

Fair play on doing a sea swim in this weather, I wouldn't be brave enough to go for one in Summer let alone now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

This day 2 weeks is Feb 1st, so for me whilst its not flying along it isnt dragging as much as it has in previous years. I think the fact we get paid again next wednesday 25th Jan helps soften the blow too though as I'm more looking at that date than the actual Feb 1st date.

Fair play that is pretty hard core.

    Your point being??

For me, this week is going by a bit quicker than last week. Last week felt at least 13 days long, and we're already mid way through this one.

Also can't wait to get paid next week, we always get paid earlier in December, so it makes January feel even longer waiting for pay day to arrive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

I have to wait till the last day of the month to get paid. Fortunately I have so much money that it doesn't really matter.

Re-reading some of the old chat threads on here and I was 630 posts deep and realised I'm reading posts from 2013... which was 10 YEARS AGO!!!

How in god's name was that ten years ago, it feels like yesterday.
