Sorry to hear that @BK5 the big C has had an impact on my family over the years. All you can do is support your Dad when the time comes and I'm sure he'll look back with very fond memories of his brother.

I think we might be doing one this year as planning a big holiday next year. Are so many great places to go and as you said it just the guaranteed weather that is the issue.

I cannot believe how bright it was at 6.45am this morning. Summer is a coming!

Not so bright today as yesterday but still dry! We went to Clogerhead yesterday & it was like another country, no wind, sun shining down, tide coming in, it was only fab. Could have stayed the day there but had to go home to get ready for the week. Mr. CL was chomping at the bit to get the grass cut :P

    Sorry to hear that @BK5

have been through cancer far too many times over the years with my mother currently struggling through thyroid cancer, its truly a heart-breaking condition & my heart goes out to any family battling it. Fingers crossed your family at least get the time to say goodbye properly as that can be a huge help when starting the grieving process.

    Best wishes to you all.

The Beast from the East kicked off with a light dusting 5 years today. I still vividly remember it, going to Tesco to get Burger Buns for my dinner to see empty shelves and freezers.

I remember walking home from the pub with a friend and it just started snowing on top of us. Great memories.

I love WFH, but I'll never get another snow day because of it.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,018 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

I literally only just said the same thing, I'd love another 3 days of snow like it, but with WFH nothing would change haha.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Covid has unfortunately ensured that there'll be no snow days off work for me again. But looking back that few days in 2018 were such a pleasant surprise. We had a ball, Christmas FM coming back for a day was another surprise.

FTR Christmas FM will return to our airwaves 39 weeks tomorrow!!

39 weeks nice! 270 days to the tree goes back up... not too bad haha

ChristmasFM returning for one day during the beast was some craic and very fitting.

Is great isn't it. I always find getting up out of bed that bit easier when its light out.

Middle elf was in the bed beside me this morning when suddenly, he sat up all alarmed "Mam, we need to get up, it's bright out!" It was 7.05am 😀

Day 300 on the countdown today, so tomorrow we're into the 200's!! The first proper milestone on the countdown!!

Chilly one out there. Looking at the weather forecast for the next few days and looks to continue to be on the cool side. Don't mind too much once it stays dry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Yeah its visibly getting brighter earlier in the mornings now & later in the evenings too. It was daylight leaving the office yesterday & still not dark by the time I got home, so it wont be long before its daylight getting home too, the clocks going forward in a few weeks will help the evenings hugely too.

I thought it was noticeably colder yesterday, and with no sun, today feels even colder again. As you said though, once it's dry, I don't mind so much. Wrap up well and you can still get outside to do stuff.

Can't believe this is the last day of February guys! I wish this year would just slow down a good bit. It's going way too fast imo! That being said we're warping towards Christmas. It's great to see the brighter evenings and we've the clocks going forward 1 hour on Sunday March 26th at 02:00.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭BK5

Finished off a bag of Quality Street Strawberry Delights about an hour ago. Think there is still a box of Lindt chocolates left in the house from Christmas.

Was asking a friend in work to guess what tomorrow is and he straight away said to me " it must be Christmas related you freak "😄

Of course he was right, only 299 days to go!!

Cant believe tomorrow is both day 299 and March 1st.

    Flying by.

March will go quick with a bank holiday and brighter evenings kicking in.

    Into the 200's!!

    Happy March y'all!

Love to say winter is finally behind us however the cool weather seems to be hanging in there.

That was a quick month though, let’s see what March has in store!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭pigtail33

    Happy March!

Where I am, the sun will set at 18:02 this evening. I have a lamp in my hall that is set to come on at sunset and I remember, just before Christmas, it was coming on around 16:15. That's nearly two extra hours of brightness in the evenings!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,479 ✭✭✭CheerLouth

1st of March already - nearly a quarter of the year over!

I only changed my timers on my lights to come on at 5.30 instead of 4.30 last week, a nice little win knowing the sun is hanging a little longer around now.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,663 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

As much as I love autumn/winter, the lead up to Christmas etc., the evenings getting dark by 4pm is depressing. As is getting up/heading to work in the dark.

Love this time of year when everything is growing and it's starting to get nice and bright again. 🙂

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Agree, I think it's the anticipation of warm weather and bright sunny days. I'm sure we'll get one or two!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

The run up to Christmas I don't mind the darker evenings so much, but once I'm back in work come January its roll on Summertime.

I love the longer brighter evenings & brighter mornings and in reality other than the last few weeks before christmas its my favourite time of the year.

All the seasons have their bonuses, winters just happens to stop on Jan 2nd!!

Watched the Bourne identity on a plane last night and there's a christmas tree and lights in the farmhouse they break into.

Just booked the week off before our Christmas breakup. So this year I'll be finishing up on the 15th and back the 3rd. A nice break of 17 days off 😁

I noticed a small shower of sleet yesterday and then a large shower of it this morning, the garden table had a small accumulation landing on it. Could there actually be snow on the way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

My Mrs. just mentioned that to me earlier, i.e. that she heard on the news that we could be having snow/ice next week... have to be honest & admit I sincerely hope not!

They are talking about snow in the East side of the country early next week!

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,018 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

Is it just me or is it actually warm today. I was wrapped up to the heavens as I was expecting it to be freezing and I was sweating instead!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Went out for a walk this afternoon and was wrapped up well, didn't feel warm but not cold either, which is an improvement!! No gloves, hat or scarf so definitely a warmer day than expected. Expect it to all go south during the week though if the forecasts are anything to go by.

March! When did that sneak up on us? Hope all the fellow elves are well. "Cashed in" the joint Christmas present from us and all the grandparents to the kids over the last few days - went to Disneyland Paris for the last few days. Flew out on Wednesday evening, overnighted in a hotel airport and then transferred to Disneyland for three absolutely magical days before flying home this morning. I really am overwhelmed. What an experience.

I knew it "clicked" when our 10yo welled up as we left the park on Friday evening at the prospect of not seeing the light show and fireworks again because she said it was "the most magical thing I've ever seen in my life"

I nearly burst into years when she said it. Needless to say, we stayed to watch it again. So glad we did.

We literally did every single ride in both parks, had lunch with the princesses and watched the parade and firework show. Best Christmas present ever for them and so many photos and videos to remember the trip 🥹

Sorry, feel really emotional about it. Magical

Sounds like a brilliant trip @Heroditas and you had an amazing time. I went with my OH just after we got married with my sister and her two boys. Loved it then and have always said we would go back once all the kids are old enough to fully appreciate it so have it pencilled in for 2024.

I hate the rain. At least I don't have to do a school pick up as the wee one was sick last night - although not fun cleaning that up at 2am 🤮

Jayney, what a miserable day in terms of weather

Not too bad of a morning here in east Meath, just a small layer of frost on the car windscreen. Hope everyone else faired ok.
