For very selfish reasons I'm hoping the weather is pants. The OH wants to bring the elves into town.....I think they are still too young....plus I'd rather put pins in my eyes.

A local parade I could handle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,475 ✭✭✭CheerLouth

One of ours asked if we could go to the parade in Dublin, it was a hard no from me, I'm afraid. We'll go to the local one if the weather is not utterly desperate. And even at that, it is a lot of standing and waiting around...although to be fair, they had a lot of entrants in the Drogheda one last year. Not sure if that was an anomaly given it was the first post-covid year & everyone was just delighted to be out of the house

I know it's not the same thing as being there but they have zero interest of watching it when we put it on tv. I just know the youngest will be bored within 15 mins (maximum) and want to leave.

Then having to deal with busy darts and the usual "wildlife" the idea alone is making me shudder.

Brought my youngest lad to look at a couple of cars today and on the way it was just lashing down. Rain eased off after we got there and we had a chance to have a look. He's getting a nice little Fiesta next week.

Proud day for a Dad to see his son get his first car. 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,997 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Fiesta's are a great car!! I had mine for 15 yrs only got rid of her as couldn't get the isofix bars fitted for carseats.

They are being discontinued I think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,516 ✭✭✭✭DvB

My first ever car was a Fiesta, t'was a 1.1l petrol with no power steering and handled like a hippo on valium, but it was great as a first car, couldn't lose the run of yourself at all. They look a lot better these days too. Best of luck to your young lad with it!!

Would be a hard no from me as well. OH mentioned it last year and I just listed all the reason why not and I think she agreed in the end. Local one, is fine and actually looking forward to it if the weather plays ball.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

Yeah, nice clean little car and only 60hp so it will take him 15 minutes to get up any speed ha ha.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,997 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Don't underestimate the nippiness of the fiesta.....I had to ban Queen in mine as I got a touch carried away and then an awful shock when I looked at the speedometer 😂 🤣

I used to live 10 mins walk from Parnell Square, where the Dublin parade starts and I went to it one year. People were arriving with step ladders, to be able to see over the crowds. There's no-one announcing where each group is from, so unless you happen to see the banners, you don't know who they are. I'm glad I went once, but from now on, it'll be the local parade with the few tractors and walking groups for me.

We've done the local parade for years, been in it a few times too with local groups. When we were kids we always went in to town for the big parade but there were half the people at it as now. Parked at my dad's office i think and viewed around Merrion Square. I'd like to have brought the kids in but couldn't be doing with the crowds.

Nice bright crisp morning here, had a look at the forecast though and it looks like turning by 10.00am to wet and miserable... forecast for the rest of the week is consistent with wet the order of the day by the looks of it.

Wasn’t too bad of a day weather wise today in the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,007 ✭✭✭antimatterx

I'm still so cold hahaha. I had my hot water bottle on my lap after lunch and the stove has been on all evening.

Yes, it was a nice day in the end but lord, it is freezing!! I can't wait to get into my snuggly bed. 😴

Can live with the cold, just hope the rain stays away.

Bit of frost on the windscreen this morning so anyone travelling just take a little care.

This miserable weather is such a mood killer.

The little google weather graphic is saying rain all the next 7 days. Cold is fine, showers is fine but this intermittent drizzle where you don't get a good dry spell in a day is driving me mad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Yep, seems like constant rain/drizzle these days.

In the office again today and was raining as I got off the bus. Miserable looking in the town now.

    Bring back dry February!

Rain is not helping my mood...up practically all night with our little one. Nasty cough and headcold. She can thank her brother for that! Husband also has it so I'm on nurse duty....the joys!! I'm a massive germaphobe so this is like torture to me 🤣

Sorry for the moan!! In positive news, I just demolished a mini egg bar with my cup of tea- twas delicious!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,516 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Was nice driving in this morning at 6.30am and it being bright, love catching the morning light coming in, such a shame its to be followed by yet more rain.

Have a sinus/headcold thing going on myself so will be lashing coffee & sinutab in for the day. So glad now its a short week and finish up tomorrow.

There are awful bugs going around at the minute. I had one sent home from school on Monday morning sick with a high temperature & headache. Took a full 24 hours to get the temperature to stay down & he was still fairly miserable. He was just starting to feel right, when the eldest started coughing. Now she is coughing up a lung (negative antigen TF!) & just so they didn't miss out on the fun, the smallest decided to get up and roam around the house for 2 hours in the middle of the night 😭

We have Lá Glas at school today as there is in-service tomorrow, so I also had the joy of facepaint at 8am this morning! Nothing like facepaint & dress up to tip you over the edge on a school morning 😵🤪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭jellybear

Oh @CheerLouth that sounds like a nightmare! Hope they're feeling better soon!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭pigtail33

What a horrible day out there. Had to pop out at lunch time and the combination of wind and rain makes me very angry! The blustery wind kept catching in my umbrella. Defo a day for staying put and watching it from the comfort and warmth of the couch. A nice mug of hot chocolate wouldn't go astray either.

Hope the junior elves are all feeling better soon.

I thought it was going to be a nice day today. Up at 6.20 and out the door at 6.40 to get the bus to work and was admiring how much brighter it was this morning.

Come 9am I was looking out the window in the kitchen in work making my coffee and bemoaning how miserable it was out on the street

The toy show will look significantly different this year as Ryan Tubridy has announced he is stepping down as the Late Late show host.

End of an era, I can't say I enjoy the late late show or Tubs' presenting style but I did warm to him on the toy show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭jellybear

Wonder who the new host will be! I'd love to see someone like Amy Huberman take over. It would bring a much needed breath of fresh air to the LLS!

ETA- I'm sure it'll be someone well established in RTE. Already seeing Claire Byrne being mentioned a lot.

One of my mates in RTE had told me (but swore me to not post it anywhere) a few weeks back, I had mentioned him being the best toy show presenter they ever had & he mentioned that last years was his last.

Be interesting to see who takes over, Miriam? Daithi? or some lesser known candidate? Either way an end of an era after 14 years in the seat.

Went to the pub to watch the rugby. Have to say the first 60 minutes were kinda boring. But thankfully it picked up. Was great to see it all the same.

Looking forward to the World Cup now.

    Happy slam, and mother's day!

Was at the match yesterday, throat is in bits this morning, don't ever remember screaming and shouting so much at any match of any sport before.

Sinus infection didn't thank me either, could be a rough few days ahead!

Ah man I would have loved to have been there. I say the atmosphere was electric. The crowd seemed flat on tv for a lot of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,145 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

It was far from flat in the stadium! We were in a very strange section. Almost nobody was wearing rugby jerseys or even team colours. That's never happened before. I hate when it feels like people went to say they were there when so many genuine fans couldn't get tickets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,516 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Nowhere near flat where we were, noise was incredible throughout, definitely nervy for spells though so maybe it came across as disjointed or suchlike on TV. The noise for sheehans 2nd try was incredibly loud!!

My OH had people around on Saturday, we were the only Irish there, the husbands were mostly from South Africa. I was up and down on the couch stressed out watching it.

Feeling pretty rough the last few weeks so need some Christmas spirit to perk me back up.

I loved being off on Friday but a bank holiday weekend where you work the Monday seems unnecessarily cruel.

At least Easter has the good grace to give us both. Only 3 weeks to go now. Love the run of bank holidays this time of year.
