Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Nervously excited is a good way to put it.

I always feel like the concept of getting to 99 Days to go seems so far off but once it hits, the decades of days fall off in no time and we're into the 80's and 70's and 60's in no time.

Scary how quick the years are going these days let alone the days!

4.5 with an exceptionally thick cover that has to be 0.5 on its own.

Light summer one is a patterned one, so no cover, 1.5. Hard winter one is 7.5

I run fairly hot so don't need to go for 13.5/15 like others might.

Double digits come in and the trafic on here ramps up , love it!

We in the Range on Sunday and bought a couple of small bits but we made plans on what to buy so that the dinner table looks extra special this year. You'd want to win the lotto to do what we'd really like to do though.

Was out for a walk earlier and seen some of the Santas grotto decorations for Winterval are out of storage and presumably being checked. Have to admit I had a big smile when I spotted them..pics aren't great, got one of a nutcracker and some of the lights/baubles.

Great to see so much activity for me to read since last Thursday. Had a busy weekend with it being my 30th, had a surprise party thrown for me on Saturday. Spent most of Sunday and Monday recovering.

Happy birthday, Andrew! For a second I thought it was today and you shared a birthday with Jarvis Cocker, 60 today and still got the moves :) oh, for the days of being 30 again!

  • Registered Users Posts: 217 ✭✭Andrew93

No it was on Saturday. Always on the 100 days countdown! Probably explains why I'm so invested in Christmas.

Thanks @Loughc @Jude13 @A cup of te for the wishes!

Was in work today and mentioned what year I graduated college and could see a few of the younger members of staff with that "I wasn't even born then" face.

Belated birthday wishes. A big birthday is a big birthday, even if you are only a young'un.

It's scary that people in their mid twenties were only babies or toddlers when 9/11 happened. 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,516 ✭✭✭✭DvB

I remember chatting to a few of the guys in work about football & Ireland & mentioned Euro 88 & Italia 90 and got a sea of blank faces back, with most of them not having been born let alone old enough to watch the games!

I already know I graduated college before most of them were born too! 😐️

@PTH2009 that is one cool jumper!

While it's scary how life flies by and you get to an age where you can hurt your neck just by laying it on the pillow, there are some great things about getting older e.g. I no longer have the energy to care what anyone else on the planet thinks which is very liberating ;-)

That is my favourite thing about getting older is not giving a f about what people think.

Happy Birthday @Andrew93 I turned 30 last November. Welcome to the club.

What somebody told me once was not to dwell on turn 30 something because after a few years you relies your nearly 40.

    The years are flying by.

I think it must be scary if you have kids watching them grow up. Those lets just say very magical Christmassy must just fly by.

@Posy I was 8 nearly 9 when 9/11 happened. What scares me I started secondary school in 2005. The people born in 05 are 18. In 18 years I'll be approaching my 49th Birthday. You'd really wonder what everything will be like then.

    Now I'll stop it.

Happy 30th birthday @Andrew93 , very best wishes, now we know what the 93 means in your name 😄

Just copped I'm 50 and three quarters today, it is amazing when you get on a bit how the younger people in work weren't even alive when you were doing your Leaving or College. They also haven't a clue when you talk about things from the 80's and 90's. My kids are older than some of the kids I work with now!

This - I have two years to the big 4 0! Seems like yesterday that I was 19, never mind 30! I think so much happens in your 30s that it just flies by - in less than a decade, we built a house, had two children, got married & then had another baby for good measure 😋

    Belated birthday wishes @Andrew93!

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 24,996 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

30-39 has been my fastest decade as well.

Got married, bought a house, 2 dogs, one baby and one on the way been a busy decade! The 40's is when we get to relax, yes?!?

I am hoping that too. I went to college in 01 so we are a similar vintage. Ive only the 1 dog and two little ones, one not so very little.

I remember becoming a dad at 26, and the four years until 30 seemed like a decade. Then my 30's passed by in one year.

This place is really coming alive.

We got our email re: the work Christmas lunch, finishing up on Thursday 21st December this year. Great that we have a few days off before the festivities begin in earnest!

And you have us as your partner and kids all wrapped up in one 😆

Put the posters up around the place to advertise the companies Christmas party yesterday. Cannot wait, just need to get the tickets and drinks tokens printed up and we are good to go.

  • Registered Users Posts: 183 ✭✭A cup of te

@leahyl same boat here! How many times have I said on this board that next year I will definitely have my own house to put all my decorations in? I even brought my decorations home from the office this year because I was so sure I'd finally have my own place so they sat in boxes and bags on my childhood bedroom floor all year. I need to drag them all back into the office now because I'm still without my own house! Late 30s. Sadly, there's loads of us with the way house prices have gone! Working Mon to Fri for what. It's like being on a hamster wheel but, look, that's why I think just throw yourself into stuff like Christmas. It is very hard though. 100% know the feeling. Now I'm going to listen to some happy Christmas music :-P

Aw that's a lovely post A cup of te! It's nice to hear someone else who is going through similar - not nice that it's actually happening to you but you know what I mean! Yes, I have always loved Christmas anyway so it's something to occupy me 😀

I know. I saw a pic on Twitter saying their was stuff in The Range and I don't know should I go or hold off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

Keep the chins up @leahyl and @A cup of te, housing is an absolute horror show in this country. We have my son and his girlfriend living with us and they're both 29 and they can't afford anything decent to buy. We wouldn't dream of putting them out to pay the criminal rates of rent at the moment.

We joke that they'll still be here when they're 40. wish they'd give us a grandkid now so things like Christmas can be even better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,516 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Its actually staggering how bad the housing situation is in this country now, I hear it all the time from people in the office renting and/or looking to buy. Its the one time I'm glad i'm old enough to have been fortunate enough to have options available to me & to get on the ladder when I did.

The government have a lot to answer for what with institutional landlords buying up huge swathes of properties and so little building going on to cater for anyone else, I dread to think what it will be like for my 2 children when they grow up & are looking to set up a home of their own. As I said to the Mrs. a while back, I don't see either of them leaving home before they're 30. We have a rental property that is killing us financially (no breaks for accidental landlords I can assure you) so are looking to sell & we know from talking to the tenant that they are goosed looking for anywhere else to move to and that's with 9 months notice. I have huge sympathy for the 1000's of people that have such limited options to have a home of their own nowadays. The fact so many are affected is the really scary bit.
