Happy 2024 to everyone and a good NYE

2023 wasn't the worst year for me, nothing changed professionally and sadly nothing on the personal side (Im 34 so still time 🤞)

Delighted with the places I've visited this year with a lot ticked off the London bucket list including 'Walking Abbey Road Crosswalk', visiting Twickenham Stadium, seeing some football stadiums, revisting The O2 and finally getting to see events in Wembley Stadium. Some great gigs in Ireland too and on my sporting side highlight of the year was Waterford FC getting promoted

Visiting Madrid in 2024 for the Mad Cool Festival along with some gigs in Dublin over the year too. All going well I'm hoping to add a trip too the Darts in Ally Pally next December

Unlikely I'll be posting later so a Happy and healthy 2024 to everyone here.

Personally glad to see the back of 2023 (the second half mostly to be fair) and looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings.

Hopefully it'll be kind to us all.

Happy New Year's Eve to all, I hope 2024 is good to everyone.

I finally caught one of the doses doing the rounds, so I've been lying on the couch all day, dozing. It'll be an early one for me tonight to hopefully start 2024 feeling better then how 2023 is ending.

    34? Sure the 30s are the new 20s 😀

I had a few too many Margaritas last night and was really suffering this morning. Answered the door to my sister and my grandniece in my "Brewdolph" T-shirt and reindeer bottoms. It was a struggle to shave 🫣

Anyway, getting dinner ready now and also prepping for tomorrow. 3.5kg boned and rolled turkey and 3.3kg centre cut of ham for dinner with all the trimmings. Soup already made and there is literally enough stuffing to be a standalone main course 😅

Inlaws and my mum and brother are calling around tomorrow so 8 of us for dinner and nobody is leaving until everything is eaten.

Aaaaand I have Christmas FM blaring.in the kitchen. "One more time, and with feeling..."

    Happy new year everyone.

Was debating whether to leave the elves up for the countdown. Just made hot chocolates (the butler's melt thingies... feeling very posh) whipped cream and marshmallows.

However, elves being elves they are starting to kick off so bed is looking likely....not dealing with cranky elves tmw!

Me three! 2023 was crap for me health wise, financially and personally. Apart from that it was great, though. 😂

Ah well, the only way is up. Here's to 2024, the year of my big lottery win. 🥳

Here’s to an amazing 2024 everyone. Thank you to each and every one of ye who visit us every year on this wonderful forum.

I found myself thinking more than once a day ah the lads on the Christmas forum will love this. I genuinely love reading each and every one of your posts it gives me a great feeling of being at home chatting with friends and seeing I didn’t get to go home for Christmas this year due to the new arrival I needed the digital company more than ever.

Let’s keep the posting going in 2024 as I’ll need something to read while doing the night feeds haha!

I honestly wish ye all nothing but the best for 2024 ❤️

Happy new year everyone. I'm really looking forward to 2024. I went out for dinner with my parents this evening, it w great. I can't deal with the BS of staying up until new years. I'm going to bed.

Speaking of age, I'm 28 in a week or so and I still feel like a child 🤣

Happy New Year everyone. I wish the most magical and happy 2024 to everyone (and myself!) :-) always a good time to reassess and see what can be changed. I saw a quote before that some day you will wake up and there won't be any more time to do the things you always wanted. Could take that advice onboard myself. I always wanted to join a choir so i think i finally will. Think of all the great things and people you have too and let them know you love them (and, no, I haven't even been drinking. Imagine how emotional I get if I had one ;-)). I just get a bit of a mixture of sad and hopeful this time of year. Very best wishes to everyone. And Christmas isn't over yet. Was telling my little nephew that earlier :)

Wishing you all a very Healthy, Peaceful & Happy New Year 2024. As mentioned continuously above this forum really is a comforting pick me up from the everyday hassle & negativity that is life outside it, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for the positivity & of course the Christmas preparations for the upcoming festivities 🙂

Happy New Year to you all.

Have to say, 2023 wasn't a bad year at all. I made some decisions about my future, planning on starting my masters in education this year to teach at secondary level. That got a head start due to the teacher shortage and I'm already teaching since last month. I also lost 3st this year which was long overdue.

2024 will hopefully see myself and elf 1 both starting college and elf 3 moving up to secondary school. All change, but I'm looking forward to it. Although elf 1 and 2 turned 16 and 18 recently and OH just pointed out that they'll turn 18 and 20 next year, was NOT ready for that one😱

Elf 3 got a cocktail set and kidfie cocktail book for Christmas so he spent the evening making cocktails for everyone, with OH adding vodka to ours. Handy kid to have around, they tasted great 😂

Time for bed so goodnight all and enjoy the first night home @Loughc

Sorry to hear that @Posy and I hope 2024 is better for you. I’ll pm you my address so you can send me some of that lottery win, it would be hard work spending it all by yourself 😂😂.

To anyone who had a bad year I just want to empathise 2022 was a really bad year for me and it really ruined my Christmas spirit.

Even 2023 started rough but from March onwards everything got better and by the end of the year I was having one of the best years of my life.

My mam honestly believed that times when you feel like your life isn’t moving forward is the universes way of saying take a breather as something big is coming. And with only 3 hours sleep last night I wish I listened to her more 😂😂

I really hope 2024 is better for ye all and please remember my DMs are always open I’m always here to chat and sound off your problems to. There isn’t a problem I haven’t faced in my 40 years 😂

Happy New Year to you all! May 2024 be lovely for you all 🤗

A quiet New Year's for us...we've given up on staying up till midnight the last few years. We went out for dinner then did some Lego and jigsaws when we got home. One of the neighbours let off fireworks around 8pm (they also have young kids so suspect they were trying to trick them too). Kids were in bed by 9.30 and we weren't long behind them.

Off to the pitch to have a community walk in a bit and the outlaws are coming for dinner this evening.

Did anyone on here win that Millionaire Raffle? Every year I believe I'm going to do it ;-) and every year i win nothing! I don't know why I'm so optimistic about it every year. I even bought the half price champers for today to celebrate the big win.

OK, need to join a choir, a wedding band (not a ring, an actual musical band so I can cut back on work), get a different job, a house, a new car, ask yer man from the shop out, should start swimming again even once a week. If I do one of these things I'll be doing well!!! I'm lying on my bed as I type this but I did walk already :-P actually walking isn't even on that list! And I'm going to try and be positive, all of that make it a habit to smile and let your first words in the morning be positive. I've been told I'm like Ricky Gervais in After Life so there's a lot of room for improvement in trying to be more positive :-)

Just 359 days to go 😉

Also to add to anyone who didn’t have the best 2023 or any year really remember you made it through every bad day in your life to date.

I saw that somewhere on line at Christmas and I was like that’s so true.

Yep, Christmas is on a Wednesday this year! Usually good for a full 2 weeks off work, will be booking the 5 days needed as soon as I'm back in work on Wednesday.

The best thing about Christmas falling on a Monday is it is the least feeling Monday ever. Yeah definitely will be taking the Monday and Tuesday off before Christmas this year as well.

More terrifying is that its 24 years since the millennium 😱 Remember it like it was yesterday!

In other news, I've just seen a reel on Insta of Donal Skeehan throwing out his Christmas tree with great gusto 🙄🤯 It's New Year's Day - what the hell is wrong with these people?

Not sure if anyone is watching the PDC Darts but a 16 year old has made the semi finals. Amazing skill out of him.

My parents got their millennium milk bottles turned into lamps, I know at least one got smashed, but I think there's still at least one lying around somewhere.

First bank holiday of the year is in only 5 weeks, we just have to get through the 3 months of January first 😄

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,018 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

They are both doing amazingly. I cannot speak any higher about what a star Mrs Loughc has been. She’s taking it all in her stride.

Despite only getting 3 hours sleep last night I’m still flying high and in great spirits. It’s surreal seeing my eldest interact with the baby with such enthusiasm as he has been. I know it’ll all change soon but for now it’s been brilliant.

I can’t wait for Christmas 2024 we will have nothing hanging over us or much to do but shop for 2 boys now.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,663 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

Next year Christmas day is on a Wednesday, yuck! But I'll have had my big lotto win by then, so I'll have plenty of time off. 😂

Was raging in the run up that I had to cancel a days leave I had booked off, that day was carried over to this year and will be taken tomorrow and boy am I glad now. Not quite ready to re-enter the work head space.

I got a new iPad for my 40th as my old iPad of 10 years finally packed it in.

I also got Ugg slippers as my OH rightly pointed out we’re going no where anytime soon so may as well be comfy and some new YSL aftershave.

Congratulations @Loughc and Mrs. Loughc, hope the little elf is doing well.

Back in the office today. MIL and FIL left the house at 4am so a disturbed sleep, the little one is heart broken a she wont see them for 6-9 months. The brother in laws leave at 4am tonight/tomorrow morning.

We had a nice night on NYE in the back garden with pals, watched the fireworks from the city, 2023 table quiz and then punishments for coming last which created a few new traditions.

We are taking over our new home at the end of June, we were hoping to get a full refurb done when we took the keys but with that cost, plus 3-4 months of having to rent during the refurb has put that on the back burner. Not paying for that means we may have a holiday between now and the summer. So looking into that!

Back to the office this morning and truly miserable. Feels like this Christmas didn't even happen this year... 1000 MPH in the buildup unfortunately carried over past the 25th.

Back to the grindstone this morning & feeling wrecked. The weather doesn't help of course, it was still pitch-black well past 8am. Smallest elf decided to have a go at musical beds last night so that never helps.
