Cold one here this morning - all the windows of the house have a layer of ice on them. Roads were just ok doing the school drop off - around these parts, it all depends on who you meet on the road or who is coming behind you. Thankfully the car behind me had the sense to keep well back & I only met one car coming the opposite way.

Still the sun is shining which is lovely to see.

Water in the stables was frozen today. First time I've seen that in years, ponies warm out with their winter rugs on.

Ground is properly frozen now so the cold is coming up through the feet, leeching warmth out

Also without it being humid it is taking longer to realise how cold it is, but when you do it's REALLY cold

Hi all, we got snow!! Not a huge amount but I was like a child at Christmas gawking out the window this morning. I went to put stuff in the bin at about 8.30 and there were a few small soft flakes falling but got heavy about 9.30 for a while. Unfortunately no more forecast until tomorrow afternoon but this will be all melted by then I'd say. It was -2 when I woke up and for most of the morning, a balmy 1 degree now ❄️

Went for a swim at lunchtime, the water is the coldest it’s been this winter at about 7.5 degrees. Beautiful though especially with the sun shining.

Wow. I can’t even handle a cold swimming pool let alone the sea on a day like today.

Nice to have an ice cold sea near by. I do not have a room for an ice bath. Nor do I fully trust the quality of the public water around Maynooth/Kilcock. So the closest I have to cold therapy is running around Donedea Forest at 5am in the morning on a winter morn.

My 2 year old now knows the first two lines of shaking Steven’s merry Christmas everyone without any help.

To say I’m proud is an understatement 😂😂

    He has great taste 👌

My little one said the whole of December “it’s my favourite” or “I love this song” I will happily remind her but you love this song for years to come 😂

We headed back to our toddler group yesterday and little one wanted to know if Santa Claus was going to be there she hasn’t been back since the toddler group Christmas party 😂

Gorgeous day today we visited the farm and rambled around all wrapped up for an hour

The fire is making me sleepy this evening

Thawed out the windscreen of the car this morning and when I went to go home from work 9 hours later the windscreen had frozen over again.

Everyone in work had the same idea as me, park somewhere where the sun can get on the car and if your slow like me your car ends up in the shade :)

Just back from the NCT, car reading it as -3!!

It did indeed, thankfully. Funds tight at the moment so the last thing I needed was work on a car.

@BK5 I got one of those thermal windscreen covers in Lidl just before Christmas and it works wonders. absolutely no frost on my windscreen. Just had to put De-icer on the back window and the driver and passenger windows. The rest was perfect. It covers your wing mirrors too.Wish I'd bought one years ago. It was really cheap too. Can't remember the price but it was cheap. Recommend it!

Would've loved this weather over the Christmas. Not fun when you're driving to work and other events in it!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

Thanks for the tip on this, just looked them up and they are cheap. Even if I can't get the Lidl one you can get them online for around the €10 mark. Will order one today. 👍️

I bought one about 2 years ago, and as it turned out last winter I didnt need it once as it was so mild, left it in the shed & now I cant find the thing!!

Looking like the frosty weather will be gone by the weekend though with milder & much wetter conditions coming back. i.e. more rain!!

Waking up this morning certainly reminded me of winter days of my youth it was so frosty out.

    Still -3 out there now!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭pigtail33

Me too. It brings back memories of when the net curtains used to freeze to the inside of the window! I can't imagine how cold it would have been in the house for that to happen. Myself and my sister used to peel them off the bottom of the window so we could look out hoping that it would start snowing.

It's minus 4 in meath. The house is toasty though so I'm not complainaing. It'll be nice for a walk while its still bright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,516 ✭✭✭✭DvB

-4 here currently. Even with the heating on and being behind triple glazed windows you can still feel the cold!

-2 with real feel -7, again triple glaze and heating on.

-4 here in Meath. Have unfortunately seen 2 people fall walking outside my house this morning.

    Nothing serious thankfully!

2 degrees out here now and compared to this morning it feels closer to 20 degrees as this morning was so cold!

2 degrees here with real feel -3.

Frost didn't clear from the garden at all, which is a surprise as we get "the sun", the car was grand by about 11....in contrast to the neighbours across the road that still had frost on theirs at 1:40. They don't get the sun until the afternoon!

Have to keep changing the water bowls on my bird feeder through the day, literally changed it first thing this morning and brought my dog for a walk, when I returned the water was already beginning to freeze over again.

Sad & sickened to say I saw two posts from animal rescues today about puppies being found abandoned. DSPCA got called out when 4 puppies were found abandoned in a park yesterday morning & Dogs Aid had a post today about 3 puppies found abandoned outside a building site, all left out in those temperatures for who knows how long - these are the types of folk that deserve every bit of bad luck in their lives cause they are truly soulless.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,654 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

That's so awful. 😞 Any time I see something like this I then wonder where the mammy dog is. The people who work in those rescues are heroes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

I said that to my son, as soon as I order this we won't see a hint of frost for the rest of the year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

Very frosty again this morning so be careful folks. It's supposed to warm up this afternoon and not freeze tonight and by Sunday it will free like summer compared to the last 4 or 5 days.

    Happy and safe Friday everyone.

According to the weather forum there's a storm brewing this weekend.

2 degrees here, real feel -3.

    The sky is lovely.

We're meant to have our first friendly match of the season tomorrow, but given how hard the ground is at the moment I cant see the pitches being playable, even with the expected rain overnight exposed ground is rock hard and a bit of rain wont help it either I suspect.

Is the fact I'm now hoping its cancelled obvious? 😆

Still frozen jere today, lots of schools.closed again and buses not running until the afternoon provided the weather improves. There was a lovely pink sky out there earlier, I can only assume that means more ice 😄

My pilates class was cancelled last night - it's never been cancelled before in snow, ice, thick fog so it must be bad in other areas, not too bad here (says she who works from home 😆)

Pray for me, I have to go and put the bins out 🥶

Just walked the dog. I love when the frost is thick enough to crunch.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 24,996 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

    Yes!! I love that sound.

Just back from walking my two pooches, it’s like walking in a winter wonderland out there. So sad the wind and rain are coming back with force tomorrow 😢

  • Registered Users Posts: 183 ✭✭A cup of te

Loving this weather even though I've had to drive around the last few days. Its fine though once you take your time. Where it gets dangerous really is when you've got snow. That's a whole other kettle of fish when there's layers of that on the road!

Love the crunch sound of the grass too! Saw the odd house still rocking the Christmas lights while driving home from Dublin in the early hours of the morning.

@BK5 you could always hang out and buy from Lidl later this ywar. I thought I paid something really cheap, like less than a fiver for it. Its fantastic though. Totally protects windscreen and wing mirrors. Such a simple fix.

There was a lovely sunrise this morning. I could see the sky starting to glow when I opened the curtains shortly after 07:30. It's lovely to see the days getting longer.

TGIF! Made it the end of the week - yahoo!

Roads are absolutely terrible here - just layers of ice now. My heart was in my mouth dropping the kiddos this morning. Hoping to get out for a walk at lunchtime though, the sun is shining :D

I feel like I am not ready for the days to get longer, I haven't made the most of the dark nights, lol. I think I am enjoying a hibernating January and don't want it to end yet.

Frost is melting rapid out there. Lunchtime walks will be good.
