Just seen on the countdown that there is only 190 days to go tomorrow, halfway is so close I can almost taste it :)

I had a Christmas tree delivered today from Amazon. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago and it was for my small snug/ reading room. Was going to leave it boxed until Christmas but OH suggested opening it to check everything was ok. Good thing he did as it was absolutely dreadful. It’s honestly like something that would cost about €10 or €15 in Dealz and it cost me €80 so it’s being sent back for a refund. Very disappointing.

We bought a 6 foot pencil tree for the hall near the front door in the Range for €65 a couple of years ago and we are very happy with it, is a skinny tree the kind of thing you are looking for?

I still can't believe how cold it is for June. I'm wearing my winter fleeces still.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭BK5

Was just coming back on here to say the same thing, longest day of the year looming and my wife has turned on the heating to get the chill out of the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭pigtail33

I thought the weather was supposed to warm up this week. No such luck. I could have done with a scarf and gloves when I was out earlier! I heard on the radio that so far, June has been cooler than May, which is very unusual.

Just home from training, normally be in shorts and a t-shirt this time of year, but needed my lined tracksuit tonight it was that cold. And being honest a jacket would have been welcomed.

Yeah, I’m looking for a small tree as it’s a really tiny room and I don’t want anything that will take over the room. I just saw this and it looked nice. I’ll hold off until later in the year so I can look at them in the shops, we have a Range store reasonably near us so I’ll definitely take a look there.

I went swimming today and there was five of us in the sea. Normally at this time of the year the place would be packed but it’s too cold and too windy for sitting on a beach.

That's disappointing about the tree, it's a good thing you checked it and didn't just put the box away with the rest of the decorations!

Add me to the 'baffled by the weather' brigade. Feckin' baltic out. 😯

I made the mistake of walking the dogs in shorts yesterday before I went to yoga. Even with a heavy jumper it did nothing. I'm lucky they move quickly because I'd have been frozen.

I'm not a fan of the heatwaves we've had the last few summers but this is shocking. I haven't had the heating on since April but I've been tempted.

I just looked at the calendar and I noticed it's the 20th in six months the fresh turkeys will be arriving in the supermarkets.(I think it's time to go to sleep.)

I am on the case today to book somewhere for a Christmas dinner. There is a goldilocks zone off not being too early that they will not take a booking, and being too late that all the bookings are gone.

Have started seeing adverts for corporate bookings for christmas already in hotels & suchlike. Must be close to that sweet spot so.

    Best of luck.

Because of various reasons we haven't even looked at venues for this years staff party, we've never left it this late and it might be a real struggle to organise something good at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

I'd say that depends on the numbers. Ours is uaually for c.50 people & we always book it in September or so. Bigger numbers though & I agree, you probably have to look at booking earlier.

I have already decided that if I am still working where I am now at Christmas, I won't be going to the Christmas party. SO I'll have to have a Christmas day out of my own 😁

Today is summer solstice/longest day of the year and while it’s a nice enough day it’s pretty cr@p that we are now entering the back end of the summer and yet we are still waiting for it to begin.

Ours is for 100 to 150 so need something nailed down by now. One thing I've learned by being on the Social Committee is you cannot please everyone!

Yeah heard that because it's a leap year, today is the solstice this year. I'm 51 and a half today 😃

Haven't posted in a while but been popping in pretty much daily to see what's going on. Hope everyone is having a great summer so far! as DvB said above, 6 months until the best day of the year for me also!

Been laying low for a bit due to work & life being mental! Kids finished school tomorrow & we're off on our hols next week so a rest is in sight, TG!

A great weekend to be from the Wee County 😍🔴⚪️ Have to decide now whether to prioritise being ready for our holidays or day-tripping to Croke Park on Sunday!

Bring it on! The months will start speeding up soon enough. From September it's just a blur! 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭pigtail33

I'm not sure how they can go any quicker than the last six months, but I know they always do. How are we nearly at the end of June already?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭antimatterx

I remember saying to my mother in September that Christmas was only 16 weeks ago. The only problem is that I said that to her in September 2014, not 2023. I don't know where the years are going.

How quick have the last 6 months gone? Terrifyingly quick.

Is it my imagination or has this been the worse summer ever?

Yes, 100%. Sick to the back teeth of continuous cloud.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭BK5

At least when I see Christmas stickers left on windows or lights left on the gutters or any other outside decorations I can now say "ah sure you might as well leave them up now" 😊😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,020 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

    Good to know!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭BK5

Almost a winters day yesterday , someone told me the wind changed to north easterly. Need a Summer to start kicking in.

More good news - another funeral to go to today, an uncle of mine. That's six funerals in the last 8 months, it's definitely the age I'm at where the generation above me is starting to slip away.

On a brighter note our youngest is 22 tomorrow, now that makes you feel old.

It's been a rough year for you @BK5 :( Take care of yourself

Was definitely a winters day yesterday & very dark yesterday evening! Holding out for next week & hopefully some sunshine in France!

Thank you very much, have you been looking up what the weather forecasts for where you're going in France?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭BK5

Last day of June my friends, second half of the year starts tomorrow. Year is absolutely flying by, wonder when we will notice the evenings just getting that little bit shorter?

I'd say if you looked for them you'd find some of the movie channels have gone "Christmas in July".

Hope everyone is good and year is going well so far. Loving that time is going so fast and we're getting closer to the 'cosy weather' (angry at those in Winter now down in the Southern Hemisphere 😄). It's going into their version of our 'January'

Sadly a bit of bad news to start with, My Grandfather passed away a few weeks ago. It'll take some time to adjust and like all deaths it will really become aparent over the festive period

Summer going good so far and have been to a few amazing concerts, Rammstein was bonkers and was nice seeing Bruce Springsteen in Kilkenny again. Moments of the summer so far was finally seeing Weezer and Green Day live after missing the Hella Mega tour in 2022 due to covid (should still on went 😄). Heading to Madrid Tuesday week for a few days and heading to Madcool Festival. Not looking forward to the heat but can't wait to see the city and try some 'tapas'

Aiming to get a big one off the bucket list in December with hopefully a trip over to Ally Pally for the darts. London looks magical too and if I can get the time I'm doing the 'Christmas bus'

Winterval 2024 is coming and even featured in the Paddys Day parade here 😊

I noticed 4 Music, The Box and Magic music TV channels are all closing down at midnight tonight. I know The Box always changes to Boxmas over Christmas, I'm not sure about the other two. I wonder will there be any Christmas music TV channels this year at all.

Great! are still showing Christmas films for the next week, at least. Maybe they'll continue it for "Christmas in July" (which I don't get at all!)

    It's July!! 😁

Those of us with the SKY platform only have 3 or 4 MTV music channels the last few years anyway, one of those turns to Christmas but IIRC tended to be the last of them at the end of November/Dec 1st. Back in the Day Trace would change on October 1st or suchlike! It always seemed a little 'too' early.

I think Christmas in July started in Australia years ago as it's their winter down there at the moment so it's feels more seasonal to do something at this time. I am very open to correction on this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

No, you're correct, it started with the aussies for the very reasons you outlined. Remember it being discussed on a couple of podcasts.

I see Office Christmas Party was on Film4 last night, I wonder was it their little nod to Christmas in July?
