It's like he passed that ball on to the penalty spot, and then took the penalty with only the keeper to beat. Who does that!

UEFA confirm 5 subs will be allowed in the European Games.

This is great, it means we can bring on a specialist FB, CB, CM, FW or GK as and when we need to.
If the game is going well, you could rest both FBs, 2 of the 3 forwards, and still give our many CMs plenty of minutes.

It means Harry Wilson could yet stay, might need a specialist kicker in the 90th.

I'm hearing Brewster will be left out tonight ,
Supposedly Sheffield United to make a formal bid today or tomorrow ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Sheff Utd could do with a bit of youth in there front line with McGoldrick 32 & Sharp 34.
Sheffield United remain hugely keen on #LFC's Rhian Brewster - Chris Wilder and Jürgen Klopp discussed the forward again yesterday - but are wary of the scale of interest in him

What does that mean? Don't have access to a ladder?

Either they want him and will make an offer or they will look elsewhere.

I see we are being linked to Dooku.

    https://theathletic.com/2087584/2020/09/24/jota-liverpool-klopp-pressing-fouls/

Great article on Jota for those who have the Athletic sub :)

"Look up the statistics from Diogo Jota’s first two Premier League campaigns and you’ll be quietly impressed — 16 goals and six assists is a decent return for a young attacker (he was 21 at the start of the 2018-19 season).

What you won’t find among the usual statistical categories is a quality that remains undervalued: the ability to get an opponent sent off.

Over the last two seasons with Wolves, an opposition player has been shown a red card for fouling Jota on five occasions in the Premier League, and when you calculate how many minutes he has played over that period (4,670), it means he gets an opponent dismissed every 934 minutes — roughly once every 10 matches.

That tally probably should have been six red cards (more on that later). But what do all these incidents demonstrate about Jota’s game, and what he’ll now bring to Liverpool?

It’s clear that Jurgen Klopp wants his attacking players to be energetic and tenacious when pressing from the front — yesterday, his assistant Pep Lijnders said Jota is a “pressing monster, so he will fit right in” — which makes this first incident particularly intriguing."

That sending off thing was bizarre of them to highlight. I can imagine it now an interviewer sitting down with Klopp, "so Jurgen why did you sign Jota?"
"Well, in the moment its not clear to you but just wait 10 matches until someone gets sent off against him and you will see why" :pac:

I'm not huge into stats anyway, but tbh having seen him aplenty I'd be really confident that he'll do well with us, he works his balls off, I'd say that was a major factor, knowing Klopp's love of work-rate. He can finish, he's creative, he's versatile, he's confident, he's young too.
He'll do well with us, no doubt in my mind about it.

And sure we've 3.8 red cards against us in the bag now too apparently :D

(btw, not poking fun at the poster of this in any way, just found the red card stat the linked site were talking about a bit WTF personally)

Reminds me of a time I was watching an Argentina world cup match on US TV. The anchor in the studio posed a serious question of whether the opposing team would purposely foul Messi to take him out of the game and just suck up the red card.
    It was unreal.

Silly risk to take with VVD. He's our only fit senior CB right now!

Especially with VDB on the bench, it's a strange one alright.

I'd nearly hope they've made a mistake & put VVD there instead of VDB by accident, but that is likely not the case.

    Ugggh Adrian.

And does Klopp not know about Shaqiri’s non injury reasons not to be playing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,564 ✭✭✭RugbyLover123

Milner is surely starting against Arsenal. Some strange calls there. I’d nearly have preferred Fab over VVD.

I heard he’s going on a gap year to Thailand. Doesn’t want to play much in case he gets injured because flying long haul with crutches is a pain in the hole.

    Source is solid.

Gonna predict a line up of

    Adrian
    Williams---VDB---Philips---Tsimikas
    Jones---Thiago---Milner
    Elliot
    Minamino
    Jota

There is some talk that Rhys Williams might get a game at CB also. I think Billy Koumetio may still be injured.

6/11. Not sure it's worth the effort to predict Carabao cup line-ups, nice past time I suppose!

I don't like it if he is playing. Not needed in this game

And to think I spent about an hour this morning working through future line ups in my head and working backwards from them! :O

To be honest, my biggest issue is that I was convinced that both Elliot & Shaqiri couldn't start together and yet they both are!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,022 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Would've liked VVD rested - but in the context of this game, it's very likely it'll be an easy game for him. Doubt Lincoln will spend much time in our half.

More surprised at Rhys Williams starting though, means VDB has slipped behind both him and Koumetio now.

Really really attacking lineup. Would expect Grujic at 6, and basically everyone else is an attacker.

I know lads often grow their hair out long while on gap year, but Shaq getting an actual new head of hair is somewhat unique I would think!

Not happy Virgil is playing. Doesn't matter how busy he could be, there is a chance of a bad tackle, there is a chance of a slip leading to a strain, ankle injury etc Of all the players that we thought could start, no one would have picked him.
Hopefully it is worrying about nothing, but it could really come back to bite us.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,144 ✭✭✭DVDM93

Even if Gomez & Matip were fit, the decision to start Van Dijk would be a mad one.

If he gets injured there's really no excuse for it, he does not need to play on this game, we're playing with fire here.

It's so crazy a decision that I'll be more surprised if he doesn't get injured at this stage.

This is all punishment for Fitz forgetting VVD existed.

Now the club are really going to ram his existence down our throats, playing him in games like this when there's absolutely no need, putting us through 90+ minutes of I hope he doesn't get injured.

any player cams going for Van Dijk?

happy to keep an eye on just him & check the game highlights after.

one more prayer to the Gods that someone has mixed up Van Den Berg & Van Dijk on the team sheet, if not then let the prayer go toward Van Dijk not getting injured.

    Also disappointed no Jota starting.

Tbf he could get injured in any game or in training, also it's a very inexperienced backline, it'll be great for the rest of the back 4 to get to play alongside VVD, they'll learn so much more from him in a competitive game than in training. If the rest of the team do what's expected of them then he won't play all of the match anyways. If he gets injured the others will need to step up and prove they are good enough until he is fit.

I understand what you're saying but training is necessary & everyone has to do it, this one just seems so unnecessary hence the worry that comes with it.

It's great for them alright to be lining up with him & I'm happy for them in that sense, but I still don't think it worth the risk in the grand scheme of things.

I prefer the others stepping up for this game minus Van Dijk rather than others having to step up because he gets injured.

He gets injured & it's him, Gomez & Matip out injured & looking like one of the likes of VDB or Koumetio having to step up for the likes of Arsenal instead of what it could/should be - Lincoln.

I understand what you are saying, but no. This is a risk that is not necessary. Play Fab back there. Play anyone but him in a game like this. It's an unnecessary risk.

I ordered them all off dhgate during the week, decided to just buy the lot with the price they are at although I don't like all of them equally tbh, AFAIR you got the red one off that site too, I'll let you know what it's like when it comes if you don't happen to get it before then.

He's our most important player by some way but I suppose Klopp wants a massive figure out there to show the less experienced players how it's done. Still rather he didn't play.
