R number likely increased. Best estimate is 1.5 to 1.7

Louth not looking too hectic either.

No point locking down Louth and Donegal if the real problems are in Newry and Derry.

Good day for Waterford so, seems to be simmering down.

I wouldn’t look at the map he’s showing now!!

14 day rolling numbers obviously look bad - but only 8 cases yesterday and 5 today. There may be some knock on of course with hospital admissions.

Was like that there 20 years ago too

What do you mean by that?

Need to have these examples in ad campaign. Might help get message out to people it may not be reaching.

"Most cases remain close contacts of confirmed cases"
Are a very significant proportion of the people tested not close contacts of confirmed cases..? Would one expect anything else, given the spreadability and low visibility of the disease?

possibly because he said that about 3 minutes after my comment was posted

Cherry picking without hearing the full report, not surprised.

Facts and pragmatism are far more important than niceties tbh.

Agreed to some extent, but communication is important too and that was just woeful as an interview.

Has anyone a list of the county cases over the last few weeks? If Dublin is going down but everywhere else is going up, the total graph may look like it's stabilising, but it's really just spreading in different places - like with new york way back when.

It would be hard to describe this briefing as upbeat.

George Lee saying the rate per 100,000 in donegal is close to 100.

Not sure what's causing that exactly. Proximity to NI I'm sure. People over and back the border. Derry is doing very poorly too.

Massive outbreak in lifford was nothing to do with border. Heard annecdotely girl came back from Dublin and was at a party there then went home to a small party of 8 in lifford infected all 8 and spread to all those households in the area. All 8 were locals. House parties seem to horrendous for this.

To be honest he did say it and then a few minutes later say we can say with confidence in about a weeks time which was followed by we have to wait a week or so to see any trend

Unless ACE had a time machine into the future the comment at the time was accurate

They've mentioned a number of extended family clusters in Donegal.

House party type behaviour was alluded to in the briefing a minute ago

Doctor Glynn specifically mentioned Waterford as a concern just there. Probably a shot across the bow for restrictions coming in

    Shin

Mentioned a few counties alright, but also mentioned the situation in each is different when talking to local public health teams.

Giving them a warning but telling everyone to cut down the contacts

Good question there from the Journal reporter on asking people had they been to pubs or restaurants in 48 hours beforehand as part of contact tracing, Michelle Hennesy I think it was

    Nothing, just taken the pee

Technically I was born there and went to college there. I mostly have fond memories of the county.

Plan to investigate further than 2 days of contacts, where there is community transmission.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,258 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

Prof Nolan stating no change in positivity rates in those of school going age since schools reopening

Glynn is now starting to find his personality, shooting from the hip.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,779 ✭✭✭Benimar

Glynn clearly frustrated with people not doing the basics.

If a Swedish epidemiologist thinks it's safe to let controlled spread of the virus take place among those who are not in the vulnerable categories, then how can it not be safe? He's a professional and so he knows what he's talking about.
And and epidemiologist who disagrees is wrong? Is that how it goes?

Yeh and he’s frustrated at people constantly focusing on what we don’t have as opposed to things we can do. Most people are working, most children in schools , most pubs open outside of Dublin and most hospital services available.

There is a lot of truth to it.
