I wouldn't be surprised to hear that we are going to level 3 but one additional measure taken from level 5 will be enforced "as this is the reason nephet wanted level 5"

On the topic of the GAA, my kids do camogie and while the local club and coaches are amazing, social distancing is nowhere in sight. While we're all avoiding one another like the (literal) plague, training sessions are full on, contact, group huddles, the works. It seems so strange my wife is spaced 2 meters apart, limited to 6 doing non contact dancing while GAA is a free for all.

There is no room for cute hoor culture in a pandemic.

Sports associations need to step up and go zero tolerance on this "ah sure it'll be grand, nobody will know" nonsense. The virus doesn't give a fck that your village hasn't won the county championship in twenty years, and the goalkeeper is just as likely to spread it as anyone else.

Harsh penalties for breaching guidelines will put an end to this sh1te and allow the games to continue to go ahead.

I think if we've learned anything lately it's that the government can pick whatever level they want up to and above level 5; it won't really make any difference without enforcement for those who just won't be told.

I don't want to live in a policed state but it has become obvious that self regulated guidelines won't work and restrictions will need to be enforcement or else open up and let it rip.

The ones who keep coming out on the wrong end of restrictions are the ones that obey the rules- the business owners trying to stay afloat, the workers trying to earn a crust, the parents wanting to get an education for their kids, these people and many more will do all they are asked but it's futile unless we are truly in this together- without a stick I feel we never can be, I'm just not sure if going down the enforcement route will ultimately be a price worth paying with this thing when even with a vaccine there is no real end in sight.

What measure could that be?

The government gave NPHET the remit of controlling the spread with 2 primary factors above all else, keep Schools open and health care operating.

NPHET come out and say given the trend and rise in numbers we need a month "circuit breaker" if you need those 2 things to operate fully.

So it's no ones fault, NPHET are doing the job they were asked to do.

So the question is what has changed?

If Tony explained today, that we can guarantee those 2 things can remain fully operational unless we do X, Y and Z.

Has the government changed tactics on what they see as essential?

Nphet's job is to offer advice it is the job of government to weigh up that advice with other factors.
You seem to be confusing the meaning of advice and an order.

If we go into Level 4 or 5 I could see the teachers dropping tools, to be honest and I would largely support that. There is no standardised approach to teachers/schools and it leaves them very vulnerable.

Let's do the circuit breaker if it is required, but give people and businesses time to prepare. If the government comes out with a "Level 3" plan this evening, and the strategy is to cross our fingers, we'll be back here next week with Level 5 dropping out of the sky.

I'd much prefer them to say we're going to a 4 week lockdown from Sunday evening with schools closed to get the numbers under control, do what you have to do to get ready.

So Tony wanted to let everyone know he is back:D The people getting upset earlier should have realised the government would reject the advice to go to level 5. Those recommending the restrictions probably knew well the government would do so, but are now happy that a compromise has been reached. It also means people who were complaining about the Government previously, will now side with it, and be a bit more accepting of level 3 restrictions nationwide, which was probably the plan all along.
