    Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my PC which was a gaming build from about 6/7 years ago, I don't game anymore but I do use it for photo editing. It's starting to creak a little bit and I want more speed!!
I'll reuse all my HD's and SSD as extra storage so I'm going down the M.2 route. I'm been advised by my son to go AMD but not pushed either way(bang for buck)
    Heavy Lightroom and Photoshop use

    1. What is your budget? €1000/1200

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Photo editing

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Case, PSU

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

5a. If yes, what size do you need. N/A

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? Running a 2K and a 1080p which I will upgrade to 4K later

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? No

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser]

    9. When are you purchasing? In October after new gpu are released

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? No

Seeing as you've indicated you're willing to wait until October, I'd advise you to check back then. We can only speculate on the power/price of upcoming components.

It seems likely that an AMD build will offer the best bang for buck, but what configuration is yet to be determined.

A good B550 motherboard and 6 - 8 core Ryzen 4000 (possibly 5000) series processor would be your starting point.

3200 - 3600mhz DDR4 ram is very cheap at the moment, so you may as well pop for 32gb of that.

As for the graphics card, your guess is as good as mine. Until AMD release a next gen card and reviews are out, there's no point buying anything! It's unclear which card will be better for non-gaming use. Although it's rumoured AMD's will have more vram which might be more beneficial for your use case.
