In america if you are in the real estate business you can write off almost anything as a tax credit ,plus any loss,s you had on a business .
eg i think alot of trump casinos went out of business .
say he lost 500 million on a casino ,he could claim that against tax due for 10 years eg 50 million per year.
The tax system in america is full of holes, donate 5 million to a school,
thats 5million off your tax bill .
pay 5 chaffeurs to be on duty 7days a week, thats a tax credit.
the uk and irish tax system is much more strict than the american
    system.

    https://americansfortaxfairness.org/files/Corporate-Tax-Dodgers-Report-Final.pdf
and theres various schemes re luxembourg and shell companys to reduce your tax bill.
This is legal in america , anybig investor or real estate developer is doing the same thing as trump.
the rich can afford to pay accountants to reduce their tax liability.
Biden says if he gets elected he,ll increase taxs on the rich.
did not every big american tycoon not have a few business,s that failed .
look up softbank and we wework .
the tax system is much more fair in ireland versus the usa ,and theres
not such a wide range of tax breaks as there is in america .
i,m sure he made profits on various buildings and ventures ,
he also made loss,s on casino,s or other ventures .
i don,t think trump supporters care about his tax bill,s
,they believe all that make american great etc and theres alot of stupid people in america and people that are racist.
this is happening in other countrys too,
politicans who are racist or extreme nationalist are gaining support by
making statements against minoritys, or people of a minority religion.
People who make a basic wage or a salary do not have the choices
trump has in reducing their tax bill .
A doctor or a nurse has to pay a standard rate of tax plus health insurance and state taxs .
if biden gets elected it will because of the state of the economy or the
covid 19 crisis getting worse with no end in sight.
Not because of a few articles about trumps tax bill.

if you work in the media as a tv presentor you are allowed to spend x amount on clothes and makeup as part of the requirements for your job.
like a taxi driver gets tax credits for repairs to his car.
how many people in ireland work on tv shows,
    maybe a few dozen.

This state, by the way, has handed over several hundred million of our money to the Clinton Foundation.

    I wonder why?

Is it big news? Do you think it might even be enough to make Bill or Hillary drop out of the race for President this time around?

Actually I'd say he regrets the day he became president. I don't think he had the foresight to imagine that all his dirty secrets would be aired in public once he took office. When he leaves office he'll be open to all sorts of investigations. Even if he gets away scot free then his family will be implicated.

It seems his favourite sprog could be in hot water now. Be delighted to see this dose get her comeuppance. Hopefully her hubby is wearing stripes soon too.

One pardon on the way for Ivanka!

The Ivanka payment was just ridiculous. That she even agreed to allow it to happen just shows that there is no intelligent thought in the Trump family other than money. Hopefully, this will be the end of them, politically and commercially.

    "red flag to the IRS"
"used it to avoid paying tax"

these are words that make it sound bad but don't actually say illegal. the IRS will have to investigate but it may not actually be a crime.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,527 ✭✭✭tobefrank321

Looks like tax avoidance is common place among wealthy property developers and investors in US.

    https://m.independent.ie/world-news/north-america/president-trump/trumps-reported-tax-methods-would-be-par-for-the-course-for-the-rich-experts-say-39570838.html

And of course one large property company was able to pay miniscule tax in Ireland in recent years, something like 250 euros.

You'd wonder how common it is in Ireland?

    Tax Avoidance =/= Tax Evasion.

You're supposed to avoid paying tax as much as you can. Makes no economic sense to do anything else.

It isn't necessarily the tax reduction but the fact that she was paid as a consultant, to offer consultation for a company she worked for. That's why the IRS are interested in her.

I'm afraid Trump disagrees with you there Pete. He previously complained that Obama only paid tax at a rate of 20.5%. https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-attacked-obama-for-tax-rate-when-he-paid-nothing-2020-9

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,233 ✭✭✭sdanseo

Ethically speaking, as much as I absolutely detest Trump, he's probably not done anything wrong with his taxes.

As he mentions here, it makes him smart, and he's not wrong. Tax avoidance is not tax evasion and shouldn't be mistaken for it.
    https://youtu.be/V08hBd2oCDY?t=157

Of course, that's looking at it from the business angle. He's in public office. He should be squeakier than clean on all angles including moral, and he's falling on his arse.
An of course there's the plethora of other allegations today regarding voter demographics and their manipulation which at best is absurd gerrymandering and at worst may well be illegal.
Hopefully the electorate he can't manage to deter from voting will show him the door.

Sadly though, he seems to have a knack for rousing millions of Americans to help pick him up off his arse every 4 minutes, and no doubt they'll all come trundling to his defence again. It's all a bit dear-leader-esque.

And how much tax did Stormy end up paying on the hush money? :)

One thing has become clear, Trump himself has paid as much as Mexico for his wall, and has been riding the GOP for election funding.

He could end up in the same place as Sean Quinn by the end of all this.

    Eh, no he doesn't.

Show me where Trump says that he thinks Obama should pay income tax that he doesn't owe.

Which is the crux of it and yet y'all can't see that.

This has to be the biggest nothing burger yet and the left and chewing away on like it's wagyu.
