Please help... xbox gift card issues

HI I bought an xbox gift card (20 euro) for my son (aged 12) online. I entered the 25 digit code on his xbox and the credit is there in his profile. But i cant buy the xbox game pass from his profile which has the 20 euro credit. Any help here would be great as im lost

Was that through the console? Have you tried through your browser on smartphone/computer?
