Apart from the at least consistent 95% + of elected reps that is true but there is no self pity in knowing that.

No that they were off on sick leave due to Covid and trump called them up to do the car ride? It’s not that hard to work out if u wanted to do something like that. He is the president so asking for something like that to be put in place I don’t think he would come up against much difficulty but not sure if he actually did it.

Well I always knew there was something wrong with the narcissist and that they weren’t normal.

What I mostly take from it is how they make u feel and treat others around them. It’s absolutely pointless trying to get a narcissist to admit to their wrong doing. Once u know what they are it’s a lot easier to walk away from their bullsh*t.

The problem is the narcissistic part will take over. It will protect the inner self. You see this by how suddenly Trump goes into denial or start pushing blame onto others - causing a whole sh!tstorm, lighting the fuse, then walking away, perfect in his own image.. its a spectacle.

I presume you mean American lives. Those brown disposable people Hilary would have bombed don’t count.

This whole thread is about Trump mismanaging COVID, preaching others to "open up" their State, he catches it, keeps it quiet, goes to events where others might get it, then when diagnosed, gets the best possible treatment in the world and then encourages others to do what he did (which they can't), over 200,000 dead..... and you bring up Hillary ****ing Clinton and foreign policy???

Possibly the worst attempt at whataboutery I've ever seen.

    JFC.

I see the Clinton’s and Obama are living rent free in many people’s heads.

    It's endless.

We had one poster say something along the lines of.. if Hillary would have been in charge it would have been worse.

"I know what you are but what am I" level of discussion.

I think Trump said the same thing to Biden at the debate actually! Even pointing at issues in America now and saying, this is Biden's America haha. Wha?

This notion that there is somehow something noble, patriotic, an aspect of leadership in Trump contracting Covid-19, and that it will 'show China' that the US won't be defeated....I can't make head nor tail of the this line of argument.

Can somebody explain it to me?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,117 ✭✭✭✭Junkyard Tom

It's like 21st Century version of ritualistic religion. 'If we hadn't offered the sacrifices to the Gods the drought would have been worse'.

You can kinda see how people became devoted to 'living gods' back in the day.

Because what do u think the Chinese would be doing if there was photos of trump looking very ill and hooked up to a ventilator, they would be laughing at him and prob rubbing their hands with glee.
Trump is not going to give them that satisfaction.
Nobody is taking about China anymore, we’ve all turned on ourselves. China have caused all this and have basically at this present time got away with it.

The Chinese think in terms of centuries - I would imagine Trump, as an individual US President, is unimportant to them.

    The boogeyman commeth...

I would guess the Chinese, along with a lot if others, are laughing harder now after the events of the last few days, than they were at any point previously.

People were only talking about China so much because it suited Trump and his like at the time to do so.

It's a virus, we are organic creatures, this sh** had been going on since long before we walked on earth and will continue to for a long time after.

You could be right. He is risking a severe relapse by getting up and about so quickly.

So, let me get this straight.

Trump has directed his medical practitioners to pump him full of an unprecedented combination of drugs to give the impression he is fine just "to own china"?

How does China "laughing" at Trump make a blind bit of difference to his or anyone in America's day, even if it would actually happen?

It doesn't, unless Trump is a pathetic narcissist who is more concerned at what a foreign country thinks of him over his own health and by extension the health of his nation.

What is more likely he doesn't give two sh1ts what China thinks, and frankly, neither should you.

What he should be concerned about is being a positive role model, leading from the front against ignorance and misinformation about COVID, caring for those who elected him, those who work for him and bringing the nation together.

Instead, he is doing the exact opposite and perhaps you might focus on that complete insanity rather than go to bed at night and check for China under the bed.

Him breathing heavily and looking like he is wincing in pain leads me to think that he isn't over the virus and that he should still be isolating.

I am wavering between two thoughts on this.

The 1st is that he is showing incredible fortitude to get himself up and amount despite clearly being very unwell. This is tempered somewhat by his words though.

The second is that he desperate to try to claw back some momentum in the race, regardless of what he says about internal polling clearly this is a last ditch hail mary to try to save the election. To not even wait a few more days to get to the end of the week, seems pretty desperate to me.

Both the above are of course regardless of the franly irresponsible behaviour he is undertaken.

Of course he isn't! Even if, as seems likely, he had it for a week before it came out, he is right in the most dangerous period.

They stuffed him full of steroids so he feels great in hospital and checks out. But even a short flight of steps leaves him breathless, his lungs burning. Today or tomorrow, as the steroids wear off, hell be unable to stand, and breathing will be harder, he'll be back on oxygen and demanding more steroids. Which will make fighting the virus harder for his immune system.

I would not like to be leading the medical team in the White House right now. In the US doctors are always worried about negligence and malpractice suits, can you imagine what it must be like dealing with a patient like Trump.

At the very least I hope he has signed off on a bunch of disclaimers.

Definately. The drugs will mask symptoms and also drop the viral load in the system but won't cure him in a few days.

I think he's also operating on the bizarre new age style of theory that positive thinking and pretending it's not there will fix him. It's basically a focal point of a fair few Christian religions in US.

The benefits of having a personal team of at least 7 highly specialised doctors , access to cutting edge treatment and an unlimited budget.

There was always going to be one winner

His own doctors said over the weekend that days 7-10 are crucial.

Assuming he tested positive last Wednesday then from Wed-Fri this week are the crucial days

However when they said that they had assumed he would have either been in Hospital or Quarantining.

    He's doing neither.

The steroids will increase the viral load, but they will hope the remdevisir and (unnapproved) antibody cocktail do enough in the other direction.

It doesn't look as if they gave him anything to counter the euphoria, though, per his 20 years and I'm immune remarks.

Sorry I’m giving my opinion on why I believe he is acting the way he is , doesn’t mean I am focusing on China. I’ve a lot more pressing matters in my own life to focus on.

Alas, I think most of us underestimated Trump many times from the moment he "ludicrously" put himself forward for consideration as the GOP candidate. :(

The fact remains if he does survive this, and I genuinely hope he does, he will have done so at extraordinary expensive healthcare and his privileged position.

The idea that if he can do it, Joe Public can is simply not based in reality.

He must genuinely believe that he is where he is because he is better than others and that poor people who can't afford healthcare don't try hard enough.

The idea of telling folks to lace up their boots and get back to work because he could is just abhorrent, malignant and completely narcissistic.
