Just amazing. Forgot to nominate this! Love the scenery

I always though Killary was in Mayo, but I see it marks the border between Mayo and Galway, so I guess it's legit.

I can't decide if the castle gets in the way of the nature (which would put it behind the other three) or complements and brings it out (which would put it ahead)

It's a spectacular castle, so I'm going to go mad and give it the nod though.

Any of these four would have walked the other bout though.

I like Kylemore a lot but Killary Fjord, I think its our only Fjord, if that's not enough to get on a boat and see it. Its beautiful.

Going with Kylemore Abbey here, not much of a contest tbf.

  • Registered Users Posts: 26,347 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Quay Street only because I hate Kylemore abbey due to a friend who would keep banging on about a grandfather or something who helped renovate the place or something

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Purely for the fact I've barely been able to leave my house for the last 7 or 8 months, I would give anything to be having a pint on Quay Street right now, so I'm gonna have to vote for Quay Street

I think Galway has ended up with two fairly weak finalists here compared to some of the others. NUIG quad v Killary would have been my pick (although Killary is as much in Mayo as it is in Galway).

Anyway, of those two Kylemore does nothing for me and has a questionable history where as Quay Street has a nice vibe to it but comes across better in person than a photo.

    So Quay Street it is.

    Quay Street

Argh I missed the second one but would have voted for Kylemore anyway.

So I'll go for Kylmore Abbey again please. its a stunning masterpiece

Jays, this is getting ridiculous - a pedestrian street is beating a castle that magnificent?

Kylemore hands down - stop the rot lads!

Will go with kylemore Abbey here.
Beautiful castle & surroundings, the other is really just a street, nice enough but just a street

No reason really given here tbh.

    This is also very tenous.
Purely for the fact I've barely been able to leave my house for the last 7 or 8 months, I would give anything to be having a pint on Quay Street right now, so I'm gonna have to vote for Quay Street

This touches on the atmosphere of Quay street in a sense so I can award 0.5 here.
Anyway, of those two Kylemore does nothing for me and has a questionable history where as Quay Street has a nice vibe to it but comes across better in person than a photo.

    So Quay Street it is.

Again, touches on the atmosphere but explains it a little better with the in-person comment. Full point awarded. 1.5 - 0 to Quay Street.

    Worth half a point here. 1.5 - 0.5

I can definitely award a point for this reasoning process. All level now. 1.5 - 1.5

    This vote secures the win.

Kylemore Abbey advances and will represent Galway

Cahergall Fort ; forts are cool

    Cahergall Fort

I've been to them all but when at the fort it's like an out of mind experience trying to envisage what it was like being built a millennium and a half ago and the various people that occupied it over the centuries.

Nearly cracked me head open on a few occasions at Torc, good times.
