Gonna have to go with Newgrange, really is a stand out monument.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,366 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

Newgrange has to be a shoe in to win the contest. World famous.

    Tower of Lloyd
It does such a great job of guiding all the ships to safety in... [checks notes] ...Meath

It is amazing what one man could do in the 60s with nothing more than his imagination :p

Slane castle - it’s a beautiful property (from the outside anyway) and I’ve had great craic any time I’ve been there.

Newgrange for me . At knowth the quartz is laid on ground around it. Nobody knows which way it was originally at either site

I'll go with the Hill of Tara, cos I nominated it.

Only a small hill but the view from the top is amazing; you can see why it was so important for hundreds of years.

Newgrange I think is the standout Meath landmark, so I'll go for that.

Newgrange advances and will represent Meath

Next match is in the works, stick around.

    Rossmore Park Drumlin Giant

Most unique out of the picks. I couldn't think of anything for Monaghan when submitting noms but would have definitely picked this had I known about it

The tin church for me please. All it needs is some snow and you’d think it was somewhere in the alps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

I'll go for the tin church. I like that it's different to most old churches which can become quite repetitive after a while.

I'll stick with one of my noms, the tin church for me.
Reminds me of good times spent in another country!

Bugger, missed the first two, far too early a start for a weekend! (and for someone who's on nights) :(

Would've dithered between Newgrange (was inside for the solstice way way back, and yes the sun did actually shine, and it was a bit underwhelming if I'm honest!!) and Slane Castle (one of the best concerts I was ever at in 1995)

And are there no other fans of stilt-dancing kids???

ETA, I think they're a bit senior to be dancing kids, actually. Still make me smile every time I pass them though!

Many many Louth heads wouldn't be wildly happy with that symbol.. Same bridge used to be on the GAA County crest but it was voted on and removed fairly quickly as it was deemed to be too 'Meath based'...

In 2010, the Drogheda Gaelic football club, O'Raghallaigh's, tabled a motion for convention calling for the Boyne Valley Cable Bridge symbol to be removed from the Louth GAA crest because of the bridge's main location being in the neighbouring county of Meath; this led to the county crest being changed to a simpler version..

    Heh Heh Heh.....
Best thing in louth and its in meath.

Want to know something even more sickening? Nobody even nominated it. I put it in to round out the numbers at the start :p

Unfortunately my internet connection at work is really really bad this morning. Also though, I’m at work and have 40 odd prisoners to look after so there’s that too :p

I’m out on break right now but the necessary data is all on the desktop. Basically we’ll have to hang on for this evening most likely but if service is any better after lunch (and I don’t get stabbed with a shiv) I’ll do my best to get a match or two up and running.
