So, what's the story with the main playoff

So from here on out it's a bracketed tournament. One on one matches where any county can meet any other county via a random draw. That gets us down to 16, next round gets us to 8 (the quarter final), then 4 (the semi) and lastly the last 2 contest the Grand Finale.

    Coumshinghaun Lough 7/2
    Newgrange 4/1
    Skellig 6/1

    Gleniff Horseshoe Valley 10,000/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,506 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

If I had to pick from that list, despite not wanting to draw any more attention to them (should be closed to mass public access IMO), I'd go for the Skelligs.

The draw will determine a lot though.....

When is the main event starting??

Longford surely has the poorest showing!

It will be tomorrow at some stage. In the interest of fairness, I'll give a good hour's notice.

    Nice one :)

Cracking job so far Mackers, you've pulled another classic out of the bag!

Maybe we should combine our efforts and write a tourist guide, we'll be rich

I was late to join but has been really great. Can't wait for the play-off.

Hard to see past the Skelligs from that list but you never know. GPO will probably go deep as it's in Dublin. Coumshingaun could do well depending on the draw.

I'm of the personal view that the Giants Causeway and the Cliffs of Moher are both vastly overrated and live off their names as much as anything, so I will be interested to see how they do here.

Have a read back through and let us know what you’d have done differently.

I’d be interested to know everyone’s thoughts actually? What you all liked or if anything shocked you. Was anything omitted? Would ya’ll be on board for a world version cos I’m up for doing it.

They could possibly draw each other in Round 1. Skelligs could draw the GPO. Then you’re left asking is it scenery vs notoriety and things like that. Anything is on the table!

Definitely on for the world version!

Agree on Cliffs of Moher, IMO there are better cliffs in both Mayo and Donegal

I think Ben Bulben and Glendalough are probably the two I was most surprised to see go. Especially Ben Bulben, I think it's the outstanding landmark of the north west region so was very surprised it didn't go through.

100% up for the world version, I'd say there would be some amazing nominations that most of us have never come across before.

I wonder what was left out of the nominations?

Fairly little I think - we seem to have done quite a good job!

But no Achill cliffs (Mayo), Enniscrone Beach (again Mayo), Rose Kennedy Bridge (Wexford) or the Sugar Loaf (Wicklow) for example. All worthy of a nomination at least, even if they mayn't have won.

Any others jump out from our juries around the country?

    +1 for the world version.

The mind boggles at the very thought of it!

Just on this actually - would a world version be too big? Would a Europe one be better?

There's been a huge amount of great nominations here from Ireland alone; a world one could end up being predictable and miss out on some gems, or else be too unwieldy altogether.

Don't know for sure - just throwing the idea out there really. I like the idea in general

Oi, you! Enniscrone is in Sligo.

But it is a fine beach

    Well there's a good start. :o

I was advised it was a great walk from Ballina (which is in Mayo), but didn't realise I'd have to cross a county border to get there!

Enniscrone beach isn’t even in Enniscrone

I think Sligo might have a bone to pick with you on that!

I walked there from school to play football at lunchtime, so I'm pretty sure it is.

You could be right. A world version might involve prelims for up to 195 countries, would be challenging to organise. Europe would at least limit it to 50 or so. I suppose it depends how much time and energy Omackeral can commit.
