I'll give Kilkenny the edge here. It's a variety of things on the one site - a lovely cathedral, a round tower with great views, and local history in the plague pit and the grave of Mr Smithwick

Think we went there on a school trip once, and it looks like a nicer spot than the castle.

The cathedral itself and the castle otherwise battle to an uninspiring stalemate in my brain

Although I intend to go into Athlone castle the next time I'm there.

Cosmo said it earlier and I agreed, Cliffs of Moher are overrated, some much better cliffs in Mayo and Donegal IMO

Never heard of it but Cloughoughter Castle looks very cool and gets my vote
