It's easy to shout about level 5 when he doesn't have to try drag the country into an insane amount of debt.
If the government went to level 5 he would have been complaining it was too harsh and the wrong choice.
    Professional sideline moaner.

In fact, when they announced the original lockdown, which was a national emergency, the blinkered sh1te was talking about Orban and Hungary and fascist powers. Like most of them, too much time navelgazing in Leinster House.

Will we give them any training?

Or do they even need it?

It's a two week training course under normal circumstances and 40hrs on the job.

I wonder could I pop up to RTÉ for my flu jab, considering I'm on a long waiting list for it :(

Just call round to your friendly ex fine gael td pharmacist for a quick jab.

Get your elbow off the door!

A lot of people here seem to be praising the government for standing up to NPHET. Showing them who's in charge, etc. It's bizarre, they're only trying to protect people. This isn't a win.

Its just not so simple and its foolish to think it is.

It was admitted tonight, NPHET are only concerned with Covid, no other health issues

Yeh Leo just said we don’t have money for a lockdown, there’s limits to borrowing ability, so let’s not hold our breath for money for private hospital takeovers

Negotiating a larger NTPF package , not surge capacity , just helping with waiting lists .

Think about the harm a lockdown now would do. That needs to be balanced with saving vunerable people. Not easy but that's the only way forward realistically.

What part did she do well?

When she both interrupted and answered the question she just asked?

Or put words in Leo's mouth?

For being effectively forced out of his job if that transpires.

Dr Martin Feeley can take legal action in that case too so!

Can cafes and restaurants open for indoor dining at Level 3 after midnight tmrw?
According to the Plan Level 3 states they are open with restrictions on indoor dining however Dublin and Donegal were forced to close
    Per RTE
In relation to bars, cafes, restaurants (including hotel restaurants and bars) as well so-called wet pubs, there will be additional restrictions in place.

In Dublin at present, restaurants and cafes (including bars/pubs serving food) remain open for takeaway and delivery and outdoor dining to a maximum of 15 people. Wet pubs are closed and will remain closed under the new restrictions.

In Donegal, wet pubs are open for takeaway and outdoor service to a maximum of 15 people. Wet pubs will remain open nationwide (apart from Dublin) under Level 3 restrictions.

However, there will be no indoor seating permitted in pubs. Instead there will be a maximum of 15 patrons allowed outdoors.

    80 people died today

    0 from Covid

200,000 extra people will be on social welfare tomorrow because ICU beds went from 10 to 20

10 ****ing beds crashed an economy

Did anyone ask any of these government spokespeople what they intend to do when the cases don’t start decreasing two and three weeks into this lockdown?

    Because I reckon they won’t.

Schools, colleges and foreign travel are three major problems That level 3 does nothing about.

Add the fact it's not the ICU patients triggering Nphet

It's the lack of ICU capacity

People are forgetting in all of this we are going to level 3, we cannot leave our own county. We will have the harshest restrictions in the whole of Europe by tomorrow night.

One of those boffins on one of the chairs, I have to watch it on the RTE player again as Claires incessant interruption was rather distracting

    Maybe go to level 4.

NPHET only consider Covid no other health issues.

    Disgraceful

I can see where you're coming from but is part of their reasoning not about keeping hospital capacity to a level where people can access critical care for non Covid issues too?

absolute ****show of a few days. it does appear like tony went on a mad solo run. i'd say his job is untenable right now and he will be asked to step aside. not sure how he can continue to work with government now, especially after leo threw him under the bus.

for the government, it is a gamble, no doubt about it. we will know if they made the correct call very soon, likely in two weeks time.

it's squeaky bum time to borrow a phrase from alex ferguson.

I'm normally a fan of hers but she was dreadful tonight. Asks a question then cuts him off half way through to ask another.

No one cares about her opinion, just ask the questions and let the person speak.

why do you have an obsession with foreign travel?. The airports are about to go bust due to lack of custom, the airlines are losing money hand over fist and 10000's of people are cut off from family. It is not a problem.

Seems to be some weird games going on here alright. NPHET really pushing the "level 3 isn't good enough" line, when the statistics out of Dublin indicate that it's beginning to work. 3 and 7 day case averages for Dublin are declining, and Dublin's proportion of the overall cases is declining.

Seem short-sighted to declare a lockdown is necessary without giving level 3 (even poorly enforced) a chance to kick in. Iit'll be around the 21st of October before these new restrictions have any noticeable effect nationally
