So there we have it. As of midnight tonight we become the only country in Europe, possibly the world with a blanket ban on indoor dining. 180,000 jobs gone in the space of a few hours. Massive over reaction yet again. But hey, at least we have an extra bank holiday this year.

Absolutely uncalled for, reported  my comments regarding schools come from working in a school, what do you work as? Education is of incredible importance but it is not more important than people's safety.

Apologies if I caused offence. Will have to agree to disagree but I am sorry if my post was offensive.

Money found for Garda overtime. Checkpoints will be the enforcement but you can still have another household visit...

Could be people with a broken leg who happen to have covid.

    The spin is unbelievable.

Other side of coin is also be people with Covid to happen to break their leg and were retained in hospital beyond the orthopaedic procedure because of the virus. :)

I'd agree with no visitors tbh but only if enforced

Anyone who needs to be explained to as to why NPHET had to be overruled today should question their outlook on the current situation.
It is absolutely unacceptable that an unelected body of doctors convene an unannounced meeting on a Sunday, then leak to the press re their recommendations which haven't yet been ran passed the elected Government. All the while failing to appear before our elected TD's at the Oireachtas Committee until forced to last week and actually provide some data as to the reasoning for their recommendations.
Level 5 would finish the economy, jobs, healthcare, futures. Zero Covid is unachievable and NPHET should be disbanded as a matter of urgency and replaced with a body of doctors with wider views on how we proceed. This body should also include experts from other areas of our economy and society to help mitigate and offset future actions that may need to be taken. .

NPHET means National Public Health Emergency Team , which is by definition an emergency team of public health and medical experts!
Would you have medical doctors on IBEC , or nurses on ESRI ?

You have to laugh a bit. Last night and this morning, they were all like how dare NPHET leak their recommendation. And today, as per usual with the government, everything they're talking about is being leaked as they talk about it.

Right this is good news. Hopefully it will be thoroughly enforced for however long the level 3 restrictions remain in force and not allowed to lapse as happened on previous occasions.

Fairly easy to get past a checkpoint though if someone wanted. Wide range of answers you can give if you were bothered

So what have other countries done to increase their ICU numbers in a short time.
Well, Bahrain opened a 130 bed field ICU in a car park in 7 days after 2 days planning. Note they didn't employ more staff only reallocated them.

    https://gulfnews.com/world/gulf/bahrain/bahrain-converts-parking-into-130-bed-covid-19-unit-in-seven-days-1.1586537609053

And just in case anyone like... just maybe the Irish government needs it, here is the paper on how the did it. And we have links already with the medical community over there including those involved in this plan via the college of surgeons

    https://www.cambridge.org/core/services/aop-cambridge-core/content/view/140A737948EBEC5A6F18ADC7B21A8D4B/S1935789320002979a.pdf/establishing_a_130bedded_field_intensive_care_unit_to_prepare_for_covid19_in_7_days_in_bahrain_military_hospital.pdf

Then they went on to build a second field hospital

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlE1nDB3JZ8

And a video of some of largest filed hospitals built for both moderate and ICU cases. No excuse from a government anymore if the run out of beds and staff.

An if not needed for ICU, it could be used for covid infectious positive people to stay away from high risk family members or quarantining visitors from abroad or to deal with the backlog of outpatient appointments or minor surgeries or high risk patients etc.

No excuse to level 5 it here, this disease is not Ebola or its likes.

i'm not sure intercounty travel was ever much of a problem tbh. it's parties that need to be busted up. that's where they should be doing their overtime.

The people per household is the one that needs most to be enforced. The county movement one isnt going to make a huge difference if there's a spread in every county

Just to reiterate what wise words were posted at the ending the previous thread, today is the day we take the reins back off the white coats, we are no longer heading to the point where an immunologist says we can’t step outside our front doors, a great day people.

They never did actually the government did and by going to Level 3 they and saying that now. Lets hope things get better and not worse

    Luxembourg Bars/Restaurants open:
    Case rate: 147.4

    Sweden Bars/restaurants open No Masks:
    Case rate: 57.6

Ireland Bars/Restaurants; Closed apart from Outdoors only.
    Case rate: 104.0

Other countries can keep things open and manage the response to the Virus...
And have a case rate almost half of Ireland's while keeping everything open without Covid hysteria and fear...

€21 billion a year we spend on a health system that’s not fit for purpose and doesn’t have enough ICU beds available and that’s not starting on our education system with class rooms that are double the average EU size, our government through the years have kicked the ball down the road too many Times And it’s caught up with us and it’s all laid bare now.

People in cars, often families are handy targets. Can't be having the poor Garda tackling drunk and drugged up session heads now. That's not their job.a

i'm not sure building ICU beds is the main issue, it's finding the people to staff them. i'm sure bahrain have bags of money to throw at nurses. probably plenty of irish nurses over there too.

Can I ask a silly question, does it mean you are allowed visitors from one other household at a time, as in several other households can visit you, just not all together...? Or does it mean that you nominate one other household that can visit you? I'm guessing the former?

It's admissions and ICU part of our equation where we fall down. We are vulnerable to collapse quite quickly.

If everyone is going to level 3 how about the county's that quality for Level 2, can they just go back, how's this work.

Cases have not been rampant since the lockdown. This is the false impression upon which people are basing flawed conclusions.

Yep correct cases were actually great and less to where I expected them to right up to when masks became mandatory and people went great now we can disregard all others advice. I don't see pubs or schools increasing anything to a great amount

There is a whole movement gathering pace now of Anti Trump sentiment in his own party.
