Because there is no flu this year. Nothing to do with government policy.
And because as has been reported hundreds of times, people with underlying or other conditions are afraid to go to hospitals in case they contract covid.

Very true. The INMO said in 2019...
“We take no pleasure in having to record these figures for a decade and a half. We know the problem, but we also know the solutions.

“No other developed country faces anything close to this trolley problem.
It can be solved, but a strong political agenda to drive change is needed.

“The INMO has written to the health and safety authorities this week to try
force a change from the employers. Hospitals should be a place of safety and care – not danger.”

It took a pandemic to solve the trolley crisis and people are even more afraid of hospitals now.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

It's grand lads 4,900 cases today but Richard Bruton has a prawn curry on to settle everyone's nerves. FG must think this whole pandemic is a big joke.

Almost 5000 cases today and the Tanaiste is complaining of 'revisionism'.

Can't wait for Neale Richmond reading a bedtime story this evening, or Eoghan Murphy's guide to Netlfix. The leadership we need.

Brexit is his white noise again. It's urgency magically peaks everytime FFG screw up.

Have to agree with you there. She certainly has her own mind, but it far from normal peoples thinking.

Who are these "normal" people I keep reading about?
Are they the same as "decent people"?

Is there a more refined grouping called "normal, decent people"?

I heard they're replacing the drink driving laws with a personal responsibility campaign. About time! Those laws are a clear failure since introduction.

Education too. National schools are being mothballed in favour of a massive take responsibility for your own child's literacy and numeracy drive.

The cost savings are thought to be huge. Saw Paschal from marketing on about it on Twitter.

And trolley numbers were the lowest ever in December 2020, so shouldn’t you be acknowledging that improvement? Or are you just looking for something different to complain about?

Bar brawls were down as well, will we see a press release claiming it as a win for FFG too?

He hasn't a notion of running in the next election. Zero chance!

    John McGuinness doesn't hold back.
Highlighting how bad things had become, Kilkenny TD John McGuinness
"complimented the Cabinet on its consistency on making a balls of things every week".

I remember you said you weren't a SF supporter but you will criticise anything a party does wrong.

Can you tell me the last time you criticised SF?

You're 24 hours here bashing FFG and Leo.

Surely you have things to criticise other parties with seems you spend so long analysing all the politics of the day????

Relative to the problems FFG and Leo have put the country into in the last few months and now coming to fruition in the last few days my issues with other parties is small fish.

At this stage, Martin's friends in FG will have to give him a digout on the social media side of things because FF looks completely disheartened and disaffected with his "leadership". The first few days of the new year are always rough for political leaders but Martin is probably going to be associated with the rise in Covid cases.

Very odd day yesterday for Meehole, the day started with glowing interview in one Sunday newspaper we're he reiterated his dilusional belief that he'll lead FF into the next General election. (True if said election happens very soon).

It wasn't long when other papers reporting complete dissatisfaction amongst FF party ranks, 2 reporting 80% of FF TD'S want Meehol gone by 2022 (possible the lot of them gone by then).

I've no affiliation with any Party but if there was ever an example of a party walking itself in the abyss this must be it. Fair to say a poison chalice offered and grabbed with Gusto but LEAKY Leo should have been put in his box on the first attempt at undermining the very government he help set up, too late now. Sadly their combined incompetence and Lust for power has partly led to this quite shocking Covid 19 mess.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

The 11% or 20% opinion poll issue is a problem. With the opinion polls using telephone/online polling. FF polls around 11% support because its older support base is less likely to respond. With face to face polling, FF polls closer to 20%. The problem with the Covid lockdown is that face to face polling is not really possible so FF's opinion poll rating is going to be closer to 11% and that's bad for Martin. these low polls for FF will be used by those who want to get rid of him. If they succeed, and the lockdown restrictions are relaxed after that, then when F2F polling resumes, FF will appear to have more support and it will give whoever succeeds Martin a bit of a boost. That could be highly problematic for FG because the newly emboldened FF might consider its position in the FFG deal and opt for an early election.

Well you seem to have all the buzz words anyway.

Now that you have dissed FG FF GREENS and chucked them out, who ya gonna call?

I can't see that, FF won't get enough bounce to get them above their 2020 election result.
Theyd be faced with having to go back with FG or even SF if the numbers favoured that.
SF look like they might swing to be the largest party if the election happens too quickly.
So I'd expect this govt to try to completely weather covid and maybe get in a, couple of years of trying to get the country moving again to try to boost themselves up, all party's in it.
Nope, no election this side of 2023 at least I think, possibly even a full term govt.
No succor for SF or its impatient supporters.

It's really striking how when talking about remaining relevant they can only talk about FG as their rival. They lost a whole generation of FF voters to SF and can't see that.

They don't seem to realise there is a whole generation of voters who can't see a difference between them.

FG could easily avoid these car crash events if they realised it is the 'quality' rather than the 'quantity' of the words you say.
