Did it occur to you that Vradakar and Harris are speaking with agreement from micheál Martin and that the papers are just stirring?
That or Martin has to put up with this and knows it as the price of office?
Its more likely to be one or both of those IMO

I'd say it is more likely option number 2. Martin can't do anything about the Varadkar/Harris tag team because he knows that they can withdraw support. So basically as we have seen time and time again from Varadkar and Harris they can do or say pretty much what they want and Martin is left floundering in their wake.

From the get go of this Government Varadkar has done nothing but snipe and try cut the legs out from under Martin, it is plain to see what he is up to. Varadkar is only supporting this government so that he can set FG for the next election.

There's a fxxk the public lets make money at any cost in FG, the devotees of Margaret Thatcher see the pandemic as a chance to drive the smaller businesses who don't vote FG and don't give them donations out of business so that their IBEC fellow travellers can take that share.

You know actually that Denis O'Brien actually manufactured the virus for this very purpose and released it while on a secret mission in Wuhan.

It might be hard to understand for shinner supporters, but most party members, ministers, from other party's, are allowed to express their own opinion, not cow tow to a military style party line.
Yous lads have a lot to learn about democracy yet!

I wouldn't know what a shinner might think nor care. Getting back to the discussion, my opinion is that you do not break ranks and undermine partners in government. This was not an off the cuff remark, it was a statement by the education minister citing a discussion with the Tanaiste regarding health matters during a pandemic. IMO, Harris was doing what LV has previous for, talking out of school on other peoples departments. That's it. You either agree or do not.

I didn't know that creating the environment for private sector businesses to grow and create wealth was a bad thing?

Are we back to childish notions of a socialist utopia where everyone lives in a 4-bed semi-d with a trampoline in the back garden and a handout from the State that allows them to own an SUV and go on holidays twice a year?

It is when it exacerbates national crises. Tell the others.

Not heard of such a thing. If that's your idea of working tax payers being able to afford rent, or in some cases buy, we differ greatly. Your idea seems very fanciful and unlikely.

This obsession with O'Brien deflects from the gombeens who represent the tax payer in the poor deals we get lumbered with. That's the point I imagine.

It is this seemingly undermining of the partners of government by one side or the other is what is making this government inept. Why would member of one party talk with members of the other party in government if they are wondering will they leak this conversation to the press? In fairness to the Greens they seem to be the only ones that are running to the press to tales on the others.

It needs to stop, its not good for the government or the country.

I've a feeling the Greens are out of the loop with little info to divulge.

Yes. Unofficially partnering with FF was for 'stability' allegedly. Now they are officially in cahoots FG, (well Harris/LV) don't seem to be genuine on that at all.

This just shows the weak hand that Martin had when forming this government mainly through his own stubbornness and unwillingness to work with other parties in the Dail.

Can you imagine what FG would be like if the shoe was on the other foot and you had Martin or Donnelly running/leaking to the press all the time? In fairness to Martin I couldn't see him behaving like this, as much as I think he is weak and has sold out FF for his own selfish needs, he does seem to be a straight up person, we seen in the confidence and supply agreement and we see it now where he is not leaking to the press undermining FG.

Agreed. I'd little stock in Harris but I thought such behaviour was only Varadkar's bag.

Last chance saloon for the government with this lockdown. They need to get it right this time as there won't be anymore lockdowns after this.

Varadkar's pointless strop and rant against NPHET coming under close scrutiny on Drivetime.

He'll probably go to ground but he should apologise to NPHET and the Irish people. We'd have been two weeks down the road in fighting this had he kept his mouth shut and stopped playing political games.

Ah francie give the lad a break he just can't help himself. Himself and health minister emeritus Harris are still living back in March.

I see we'd a Garda Senior Officer attend a media briefing while awaiting his/her Covid 19 test results.
No doubt he/she was foolish in the extreme and should have known better especially as the briefing was regarding Covid.
Once again we see the virus recognises no affiliation.

What has this got to do with a FF/FG/Green Government thread? Bizarre.

Pup to be restored to €350 for those earning €400 pw and over
Fines also for going outside the 5km travel restrictions for no good reason

    Now that's more like it
Hopefully people will relearn the habits they lost
    I have my doubts

Nothing but Sinn Fein types hate the Guards too. Was accused of being an ex Guard here myself which curiously they imagine is an insult.

What's the point in Michael Martin going on the news at 9 when all the details have already been leaked/released

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭Bishop of hope

Level five for six weeks agreed it looks like, with a few tweaks.
I'm a bit bemused by it now, we have failed ourselves, not the govt who have failed us.

There has been that much dithering...confusion, cross purposes messaging and political playacting that I think we will really struggle to lock things down again.

This is exactly it. Doesn't stop the usual perma whingers here having a go.
I believe they're apopleptic with the ST poll at the weekend.
All those long days and nights on boards, only to see their efforts go up in a puff of smoke.

There's been no confusion, just fools not prepared not to follow the rules.

You are not supposed to mention Mary-Lou and Sinn Fein in the FF/FG thread.

And he is quite rightly being investigated by the Gardai. So what point exactly are you trying to make?

Essential travel is allowed so excuses for GPs, sick parents, looking after kids, one parent families etc will become the norm.

or follow the advice of the experts...until they have to convene a special cabinet meeting, suck in the tummy muscles after wasting two weeks and do what they were supposed to do before somebody went on a solo run and confused everyone.
    Shambles.

Just one mans refusal to follow guidelines. Personal responsibility, first, last and everywhere in between.

I would take a century of Trump than another week of these absolute ****steins. At least with a clown you know you get a clown. While these muppets look you dead in the face and tell you lies. Schools not the spread, right? In defiance of all logic, common sense, and medical evidence to the contrary. They'll destroy livelihoods because you can't have a shop open serving coffee, but house parties go on full rage with no power to stop them?

Criminals that need to rot for the rest of their lives in prison. Disgrace.
