This is the Republic of Ireland. You said people were not allowed on flights with no tests, but your friend went without a test?
Just like the Govt you are all over the place

Tourists are coming into Ireland no tests and going about their trip as they please. The only deterrent to them is a €100 fine if caught (tourists will go home and fine will never be paid in most instances)

You not disgusted at your friend not having personal responsibility to not fly and help stop the spread or are you not using that one anymore?

He did the responsible thing and had a test before traveling over to say goodbye to his brother. He didn’t stay for the funeral.

It was on the return flight that he witnessed two people being turned back for not having an up to date test.

Well good job Ryanair stopped them 2 magic people you have no proof over.

What about the 140 of who arrived with no test? Our Govt need to be held responsible for this.

But sure 2 were stopped so its ok is your asw?

No hotel Quarantine, let them in and fine them €100

    That will stop the spread

Why would a tourist from Ireland need hotel quarantine to go to Portlaoise? Literally says in the article they lived 100km away.

Aaannnddd 140 were caught with no test. The system works. However, the carriers should take a leaf out of Ryanair’s book and scrutinise test details carefully.

Why are the 140 not in hotel quarantine that the Govt promised 5 weeks ago now?

Why are the 140 not in hotel quarantine that the Govt promised 5 weeks ago now?

    Because:
1 It’s still not been approved
2 People are still expected to exercise personal responsibility.

Because drafting legislation for extending pub hours is more important to this govt. It's called playing to their base.

At Christmas they stopped flights to the UK in the space of a few hours.
There is no need for this legislation to take 5 weeks (so far)
Its clear as day the Govt dont want to do it

Yep and they are hoping by dragging out that the virus will be suppressed and the vaccines will be kicking in so that they don't have to do it.

Not all flights were stopped. And flights don’t just arrive from the Uk.

I didn't ignore anything smurg. I responded to the link you had posted where you were going on about hotel quarantine for people travelling around Ireland. Made no sense at all.

Not all flights were banned. Fact.
“In response to the identification of a new strain of COVID-19 in the south-east of England, the Irish Government has banned all arriving passenger flights from Britain. The ban is in place until 23.59 on Thursday, December 31, 2020.

The ban applies to all passenger flights with the exception of repatriation flights. The ban does not apply to cargo flights. “

I don't think anyone is looking for a ban on cargo flights.

Why are FFG politicians so afraid of criticising the EU over the procurement of vaccines?
They'd rather blame variants than ever put some blame on the EU processes.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

I'm not sure what benefit there would be from publicly criticising the EU on this, it isn't going to change anything. I'm sure plenty is being discussed in the background.

Any so do one of the posters on this thread.

Apparently they gained their experience during the other 18 Covids.

    :D

So you are taking a factual item about a public representative and using it to get a dig at an unnamed 'man with two pints' poster. Why? Do you think they are the same level? The health minister verses some rando on Boards? Really?

Close friend saw it with his own eyes last week. 2 people not allowed fly due to test being a few hours out of date. He said the craic was mighty with the 2 Ryanair girls refusing to budge.

Was your friend male and holding two pints?

EU are a sacred cow with Irish media. They are also the butter on the parsnips for lickspittle politicians like we get in Ireland. Paddy won’t bite the hand that feeds him

Are you approving of people attending sick relatives abroad? Seems you are picking and choosing what passes for personal responsibility. Can I assume you read your friend the riot act?

Now, can we have the comparable numbers of infected and deaths

But why would someone travelling from one county in Ireland to another county in Ireland need to hotel quarantine, as smurgen suggested? Unless we are now asking the government to introduce hotel quarantine for inter county travel too?

There’s a difference between sick and dying. I’m obviously a tad more compassionate than you.

I didn't realise it was inter county.
That said mixing in an airport is mixing in an airport/plane. Would the distance matter? On that, why on earth would people be flying intercounty during a pandemic?
