People who voted for FF or FG did not vote for a FF and FG coalition.

They were promised faithfully there wouldn't be one...so they couldn't have.

Maryanne...why do you think that even if you go to the end of google or even the internet, you will not find a number that shows how many people in this country voted for this government?

The Irish electorate will give their verdict on this government at the NEXT election when they attempt to get re-elected.

Because no one else was interested.

Pivot and deflection from the point. I'll take it you have conceded the point so.

What point were you trying to make?

Following a General Election that returned no clear winner, 3 parties put their differences aside for the good of the country and formed a government. Not difficult to understand....or is it?

There should have been a government of unity until the pandemic is over and then a re-election but FF and FG did not want SF in government.

    It is for Shinners Mary.

Some parties have principles and standards.

    The people elect the Dail
    The Dail elects the Taoiseach
    The Taoiseach appoints the cabinet

This govt is as legitimately elected as any other.
    Sin é

The point is simple, the electorate did not elect the 'government'. The electorate 'elected' TD's.

The government is of course legitimate. But it isn't 'elected'. If the 3 government parties had said before the election that they intended to coalesce you might have a point. But they didn't. In fact one party promised it would not coalesce.

The best you guys can do is describe that as, at best, nod and wink traditional gombeen politics, I would describe it as an outright lie.

The green party holding positions of power and making decisions that have a direct impact on the lives of everyone living in the republic despite 93% of the population not voting for them.

    It's a ****ty system

Nod and wink? Its called coalition government. What % of the electorate expected anything different?
Quite a few other sucessful democracies operate under coalition governments. You know, politics for grownups

    Representative democracy at work

This is what happens when FF and FG run the country...

"The United Nations has ranked Ireland second in the world in quality of life in its annual Human Development Report ranking of 189 countries.

"The UN has ranked Ireland joint-second with Switzerland in its annual Human Development Report, which was topped by Norway this year.

The new rankings have placed Ireland above Germany (6), Sweden (7), Australia (8), Denmark (10), the United Kingdom (13), and the United States (17). "

Brought to you by the grownups through a system of free elections, representative parliamentary democracy, transparent government, and a free market capitalist economy.
For comparison, Venezuela has plummeted to 113th despite heavy support from prominent politicians here

7% of the vote yet making decisions for everyone. Zero mandate.

Keep feeding that "single party state" fantasy.
I can almost hear the jackboots

Maybe next time a party with 4 % of the vote can run the country. Or how about an individual who runs as an independent. 2% overall. He can run it all.

It's a farce. Over 9 out of 10 people didn't vote for the greens

Are you saying by extension that Kerry people have no right to a voice if they vote Healy Rae?

You moved here after 2008 and don't follow the news much?

From what I've read thus far if there's an issue it's the publics fault and if things are believed to be going well, it's FF and FG on their own?

Green party voters will like to know that their votes are now considered invalid.
No place for PBP in the next left wing government either then? Or Soc Democrats? Or Labour? This is going one way.

A scandal? How would it compare to say the Netherlands? Have they a coalition govt in that very successful country?

I follow the news enough to know that there was a GLOBAL financial crisis back then. I don't think FF or even FG had the evil scruples to pull that off acting alone. However, from what I have read the policies implemented to remedy the Irish economy have turned the situation into a positive in less than a decade. Its a great wee country.
