NPHET are meeting tomorrow. They could in theory reccomend more restrictions then and maybe have them from Friday night when NI may have them from too. Not a huge amount of notice either way. Think Varadkar just wants to be the one breaking the news.
He probably does but we'll listen to him because he's been at the heart of this COVID response since the beginning. I don't think NPHET meetings mean that much anymore, not since the event. Their advice will be weighed against a lot of other things now.

They can pass it on to others that will have a harder time with the virus or die. But sure, ignore that.

    Not to me.

The government will still use their decisions as political cover so say that's what NPHET recommend. If goverment doesn't want that cover anymore they could just decide themselves to bring in level 4 to border counties and drop the pretence. I don't think government has ever had an issue with their advice as long as that's what they wanted to do anyway. Recommending level 4 for border counties seems no different and fairly inevitable if restrictions are happening in NI from Friday.

It's an easier case to make for the border counties as their 14 day numbers are through the roof. I think they'll expect it.

Turnaround from getting referred by doctor to results is 4-5 days now.

    Madness.

    It's not sustainable.

I was fortunate last week - from initial call into GP to swab result took under 48 hours. For those who are physically unwell the longer wait is undeniably stressful.

Yeah or self employed people who have noone to cover for their clients.

Businessess like that don't be long going out of business.

When you can't get to your clients within a day or two they move onto someone else.

Well there is a mid-term for schools coming shortly.
We'll see what the numbers are like at the end of that mid-term break and it'll tell a story.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit if the government decide on a lockdown for that period to keep hiding the problem with schools.

Local secondary school here, there has been transmission between close contacts within the student population, no contract tracing what so ever from the HSE only parents ringing each other advising of the positive test and recommending their child gets tested, shambles.

I think they will too. But fairly rich of Varadkar to be briefing media when government blamed NPHET for leaking so recently.

Oh my god, that's awful. The tracing and early isolation is placed upon the backs of parents to carry out here. That's bad. I was really hoping contact tracing will be able to establish the source of infections, if its happening at home or if its from schools.

    In general or about Covid?

Because the answer to both is a resounding YES.

Contact tracing is a bit of a mess alright.

They finally rang me yesterday so I gave them my close contacts. Didn't want to know about where I might have picked it up, only the 48hrs prior to my first symptoms.

So that meant my family and my workplace. Further call from public health nurse in Letterkenny, asking about distancing etc in the workplace, layout of desks and canteen etc. which is all done very well.

Chatting my manager then a few hours later, she got the call and was told nobody at work was being treated as a close contact as distancing was correct.

Yet... a number of staff got pinged by the Covid App and were already out being tested/isolating as a result of that.

Which makes the whole thing a bit of a clusterfcuk tbh.

I just dont understand why there there is no promotion for people to improve diet, obesity & general health.

Surely people would be more motivated than ever. If we had a much healthier nation we wouldn't need lockdowns

How can they possibly know distancing was correct? What about fomites in work, surfaces you may have touched? What about the fact that it stays in the air for some time and you can inhale it from that??

Shambolic. Are the family still all feeling well? Hope you're a bit better today.

Is there a newer statutory instrument or other legislation more recent than this re. the €9 meal requirement?
These appear to have self destructed in mid-September?

    https://assets.gov.ie/86441/6a9850e4...11aaded93d.pdf

Anyone on above in terms of the legals on this?

Also, have booked another 2 night Dublin stay this week. Again, rang a few hotels and a couple of them saying it's "grey area" in relation to hotel services and the 105 minute limit and having to purchase a meal.

What is Level 3 in relation to this - all I can see is that hotels are open for services to residents, but with other contradictions:

--->>> Bars, cafes and restaurants (including hotel restaurants and bars)
Restaurants and cafes (including bars/pubs serving food) may remain open for take-away and delivery and outdoor dining to a maximum of 15 people.

    --->>>Hotels and accommodation
Hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs may remain open, but with services limited to residents.

First paragraph above implies you can't have residents in the hotel bar at all and outside only up to 15 people! And second point suggests you can operate a hotel normally.

I'm assuming first paragraph in terms of including hotels, is directed at non residents, but it does not say that.

Governments need to start thinking about how to deal with Covid without having this section of society (young people) onboard, because they've moved on. No amount of blaming, shaming or wheeling out 'long-covid' young people on the Late Late Show will change that fact. The strategy has to evolve.
