Don't thin any gathering outdoors is allowed

Will there be legislation to enforce that or can a couple of 000 anti maskers just walk around town?

If they give it a few more days and then it doesn't improve, we're even further behind then though

There's talk that lockdown won't begin until Wednesday midnight. If the numbers improve Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, that should be good enough reason to keep the finger off the button for a while.

Cases will not drop that much in the next 4 weeks.

    Schools still open.

This level 4 may need to become a more strict lockdown in 4 weeks time.

We'll be on level 9 and 3/4 by December.

The above is what I read around the start of the first lockdown and just followed it, even before the Covid testing centre opened alongside the supermarkets and people started going from their test directly to the shops.
But perhaps the latter is not something that would concern you either?

yep been wiping down shopping since 1st lockdown (really really bored of it now) and no im not locked away but am minimizing social and shopping contacts as much as i can

Exactly. How many people actually drink less because the off-licence closes at 10pm?

If it's six o'clock and you think you might fancy a drink later, then you'll get down to the offie before it closes.

Off licence closing hours are one of those things that are assumed to work even though nobody has actually presented any evidence to prove that they do.

Who is leaking this news to journalists or a case of second guessing by some of them?

NPHET obviously. It's definitely not Leo.

If they're going to shut the off licences at 8pm can they open them at 8am for us early birds doing our grocery shopping?

Can the idiots in the government not see this?

Are our overlords really that stupid?

It baffles me that people who are in charge of a country cant see how stupid of an idea this is...all they have to do is look at off-sales the day before St Patricks day or Christmas week.
Us Irish wont do without our alcohol and will buy it at 9.00 am if we had to.

I'm beyond the age of house parties, but was in my early 20s when they changed the law to close at 10pm. It was all a bit of craic leaving the pub at 9.45 to nip into the off licence. You'd have 3 confidence-increasing pints in you, and overbuy due to the scarcity factor, so you get 8 cans, head back to the pub for a few more pints, then feel the need to drink all 8 after. Compare with before, you'd leave the pub with 8 pints in you and buy 2 or 3 cans, if any.

Modifying the off licences in any way wont have much impact, except for irritating those who just want a few drinks at home. There are very few options to stop the house parties, and limiting off licences isn't one of them.

They should leave the off licences opened, ban the sale of Kegs, litre bottles of spirts and slabs on the off trade for 6mths.

How is it that this is blatantly obvious to everyone else in the country yet the people in charge of managing a pandemic cant see it.
It frustrates the hell out of me.

Its like when I see people with their L plates on upside down or backwards - I start thinking that this person is out there driving a potentially lethal weapon.

In both cases I just want to grab a hold of them and shake the stupid out of them!!!

Great numbers today. Better than I had hoped for.

Sunday: 1,152 positive swabs from 16140 tests. 7.14% positivity. 7-day average: 7.29% (down from 7.31%)
      Today: 970 positive swabs from 14,391 tests. 6.74% positivity. 7-day average: 7.24%

This is the first time in 3 weeks we've seen a drop in the 7-day positivity rate. It's not a big drop, but I'll take it. I'd expect to see a small bump up tomorrow because there was a freakishly low rate on Tuesday 13th.

One swallow does not a summer make.

I know you’re trying to be positive, but the last time you made a similar post the numbers rocketed.

People need to be realistic and manage their expectations, we’ll be in full lockdown for Xmas.

You're right, we need to see more of these numbers before popping the cork.

Deciding that "we'll be in full lockdown for Xmas" is not being realistic though, it's being pessimistic :)

The last week of data doesn't support the assertion that a full lockdown will be necessary by late December.

Rules don't apply to guards it seems

This is punishing those who are complying and have made massive efforts with their businesses to enforce new standards.

Those who ignore the rules will continue to do so with no fear of punishment or retribution. The existing guidelines need to be given time to work and need to be legally enforced by the guards

This has left me very dismayed

Remember that the "Vintners" were pushing the Gov to close off licences, that can be the only explanation for this. Ridiculous.

I think the only two things that will get wide public buy in are (1) a coherent plan for post lockdown, (2) accountability or acceptance of mistakes.

We’ve been turned into a country that is quick to overlook massive systemic mistakes in favour of blaming various groups such as young people for a need to socialise etc. We can’t all sit in our huge house on a decent wage with a nice garden and family watching Netflix. Everyone’s circumstances are different. We’d rather blame Johnny around the corner for meeting someone than even acknowledge the systemic failures.

If we had some acceptance tonight Of the mistakes made (keeping airports open, constant leaks to heighten anxiety, winding down testing and tracing during the summer lull, not employing contact tracers til Sept/Oct, not using lockdown 1 to extend hospital capacity), then maybe the common person might give it another go.

And then if you have an actual post lockdown plan that doesn’t involve another lockdown or constantly dragging it out, then maybe more buy into it.

As I type this another leak from the IT that it’s Level 5 for 6 weeks. FFS.

Excellent point. When I was working in town the OH would command me to buy the Meal Deal in M+S which had a bottle of wine included.

Only problem was I could only go on my way in at 8am. So no dice, no wine, so forget it!

Formite transmission is now said to be low, but each family and indidivual must do their own risk assement especially if high risk people in the family. Make a plan that is simple and no stress to carry out. For some people that is wash your hands not the packaging, for others maybe like yourself because of where you live and shop and if you are high risk.

Scientific information has changed since last march. I dont clean the packaging anymore but I am still cautious only with frozen food packaging.

Main takeaway have a normal kitchen hygiene routine like wash vegatables/cook meat properly and wash my hands especialy before touching your face. But that is mine and only my risk assement for me. Update your knowledge and decide what is best for yourself.
