Heard from a journo friend at Indo that Lvl 5 for 6 weeks possible

    And... IT links above :)

Shur anything is 'possible', but what I've no doubt in my mind is that its an opportunistic article to pull in clicks, while people are rabid for news. the fact that it seems somewhat at odds with earlier leaks to make it more interesting is very convenient too.

It is all the peoples fault though, what if the approach of our health experts has been flawed?

Interesting, but please still wash your hands soc distance and avoid crowds because the virus cannot talk,it doesn't shout 'hey over here' and we've no way of knowing if that random person we meet has a virus load enough for to infect India or just Rockall
Our way out of this dystopian mess is a vaccine and it Currently looks like that it will be spring or early summer before we know if its power hosing c19 away

In all seriousness, no one knows for sure until the formal announcement. Best to just wait until then as any answer you get before that will be speculation.

I know you’re trying to be positive, but the last time you made a similar post the numbers rocketed.

People need to be realistic and manage their expectations, we’ll be in full lockdown for Xmas.

Cast not a clout, till may is out!

Irish times reporting level 5 for 6 weeks

It does and it doesn't report that
Last week, the National Public Health Emergency Team called for the State to move to the highest point on the alert plan, Level 5, for a period of six weeks, in light of what it describes as an alarming upward trajectory of infection.

It is expected that Government will reject some of this advice and instead opt for Level 4-plus, for up to four weeks, after which the situation would be reassessed.

I hope to God the Irish Times are wrong.

If the situation is so dire that they're looking at moving to Level 5 for 6 weeks, then it's absolutely appalling that they left it till near closing time of most businesses to actually sit down and start discussing.

I understand there are other departments and they have work, but this literally affects everyone.

Remember that the "Vintners" were pushing the Gov to close off licences, that can be the only explanation for this. Ridiculous.

They came out against the closure of offies over the weekend. The LVA anyway.

Whatever happened to no visitors to houses being a "game changer"? It's not even been a week to see if this changes things.

They can get fecked, they will push more people to top themselves with measures like this than will die from COVID

I hope some people in that room can get real

You couldn't expect them to come in early on a Monday or, worse again, on a Sunday to sort this kind of thing out. Poor lambs aren't paid enough for that.

Newstalk reckon L5 will be nailed on - that it will be hard for the dissenters in cabinet to push back

If so, I'm outta here for a couple of months

There's every chance that level three might be starting to work... just as they drag us into a lockdown.

Best time to start the lockdown - when you know level 3 is working - a short sharp lockdown will have a magnifying effect and you will look like superstars. Its too early to call though

so they reject level 5 2 weeks ago.
Now reject again & accept level 4.

So in 2 weeks it will be level 5.

What a terrible government we have. They are just going to have us in a longer lockdown delaying the inevitable every time

still thinking maybe they'll announce restrictions from Friday with schools going off for mid term or am I in dreamland??! then theyll have rest of week to see if positivity rates are falling.....

Well that'll have gotten the Irish Times lots of panicked clicks. Disgusting carry on.

You're right, we need to see more of these numbers before popping the cork.

Deciding that "we'll be in full lockdown for Xmas" is not being realistic though, it's being pessimistic :)

The last week of data doesn't support the assertion that a full lockdown will be necessary by late December.

It’s not being pessimistic, it’s being pragmatic.

As long as schools are open, as long as GAA(an amateur sport with many players working in the community) are let continue, you’ll still have a spread.

Even the idiotic suggestion of limiting off license trading hours will add to it.

IIRC, car repair services were allowed to remain open under the last lockdown, but car sales were not.

Level 5. 500,000 temporarily or longer term unemployed from mid week. Nuts. Country is now economically ruined in 2021.National debt will rocket. We can't afford this, and it's only because loan money is cheap that we can even contemplate this. But ultimately we have to pay it back for the next 50 years or more.

Schools close on Friday for mid-term.
