In fairness, plenty new players tonight. May lack in talent but cant fault them for effort

I think they played very well

Matt Carthy talking sense regarding the lastest climate action bill regarding beef production. Although larrys friends will no doubt keep the feedlots going instead of grass fed beef. I’m thinking SF will do even better in the next election. I’m tired of the FF/FG bs. They’ve had a 100yrs in charge and all they do is sneer the electorate because the sheep will still vote them in.

It looks more and more like we are going down the American route where there is a two tier beef system. The main one is intensive feedlots (with the use of hormones) and the lesser is grass fed. I don't know if grass fed is divided into two groups - hormone treated and non hormone treated.
If we want to maintain family beef farms in Ireland and not go the American route then subsidising small suckler producers with value added environmental actions is a no brainer.

I think the sukler cow has a hangman's nouse around it's neck both here and in europe but no one will come out and say it.

I wish I shared your enthusiasm but I can't see SF being any better, different certainly, but that has it's downsides too. Won't be giving FF/FG/greens the time of day next outing. Wish we had a good independent in this constituency.

I'm not political but I reckon we've actually come very far in the past 100 years.

at this point they're worth a shot, I'd like to see what a government with Pearse Doherty as Minister for Finance, Matt Carthy as Minister for agriculture and O Broin as housing minister could do. Worst case scenario they're no better and the people don't relect them

I'm sick of FG/FF constantly shafting ordinary people, and wrecking the economy every so often and telling anyone who suggests making things a bit better that its impossible, at the very least Sinn Féin have an alternative that is thought out, costed, etc

As for independents we've two of the biggest in the country here in Tipp, one is a FG td in disguise and brazenly a crook the other in Mattie McGrath, I rather have a half decent party TD, at least you know where they stand on issues (good or bad depending on your own ideology)

And the fact FF gave up pretending to oppose FG ( and vice versa) to keep Sinn Fein out is surely a sign the other see SF as a threat to the current status quo

Aye but the question is is that thanks to or despite FF and FG :D

The last few elections was ff/fg sneering SF but at this stage I’ll vote for sf because I’m sick of ff/fg.

Don't think it will be a hughe difference who is in power, different shades of whitewash. Their (politicians) words and deeds rarely combine, but a politician has to have the skill to accommodate and compromise which some of the more popular independents don't and don't have to.

That's not a great reason to vote for anyone.
I'm no fan of neo liberal capitalism but I wouldn't let that drive me to vote for the mob either.
They're just the Anti- party, they collapsed the Northerm Assembly for years and refused to participate in government here after the last election in case they got their hands dirty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,334 ✭✭✭Anto_Meath

Pearse Doherty as Minister for Finance, Matt Carthy as Minister for agriculture and O Broin as housing minister would be ok, but after that its slim pickings, the two we have in Meath here are nice lads but I couldn't see them as good at negotiations. In fairness to Peadar Tobin he has his head screwed on when he was with them. I don't think Mary Lou would do much for international relations as Taoiseach and I don't know what they would put Aengus O'Snodaigh . But this is the problem with party politics, you have to take the good with the bad.

I would have thought it was more a case that ff/fg sold their sole to ensure sf didn't enter goverment rather than sf being unwilling.

Matt Carthy was asked a question once if elected would he allow live exports.
    He answered he wouldn't.

That to me showed me his intentions on agriculture if he gets into power.
Forget the rhetoric of supporting family farms. It's completely bluff to get bluff to elect him.
He's the biggest supporter of the beef cartel and anti small family farms just by that one statement.

They put the policies in place to build a great economy. Go to any developed country in the world and you will see the same issues in the media with health, housing and employment. Alot of people in this country have no idea how good they have it and could do with a good look at other misfortunate countries worldwide of which we were one not so long ago. Shinners are telling people everything they want to hear and I don't fall for their lies. I believe they would have the country in tatters in no time and violence in the North again. Just look at all the head bangers they got elected.

AFAIK they refused to enter into talks when invited to by other parties.

Thats the sh1t sf spout about alright but it was obvious sf had no intention of going into power and only try to play the victim. They went trying to create a coalition of the left leaning parties. That's some joke as none of them want to be in power either. As far as I recall it looked like ff was going to go in with them as Martin was mad to be taoiseach but sf wouldn't even turn up to negotiations.

FG stood back to let SF form a government as long as they could, we'd have no Government yet if it was left to SF.
If a party is not in Government it's easy for them to talk brave and support all the hard luck stories. If you go lobby them they'll all agree with you, I can't believe that people are sucked in by their support,

The country was a basket case for most of its history under them too don't forget. Outside factors were at least as big a factor in the better times of the last 20 years or so

Ah shur, he couldn't be any worse, that's what some who voted for Trump thought.
I'm not saying who people should support, but SF are in Govn't in NI. Any different?

Looking at most of the replies it appears plenty will still be voting ff/fg because they “fixed the road”. Fcuk the two of them now time for a change and only then might the elected gombeens get their commupence.

SF only mistake they didn’t run more candidates. But you worry about that, while the tanaiste is up to his brazen neck in leaking official documents.

The SF vote spread across more candidates may not look as good as many seem to think.

It'll be curtains for sinn fein if they ever go into government. It's free everything for everyone with them knowing full well the magic money tree doesn't exist!

They'll walk the next election if they run the candidates, the problem for them then is realising they can't implement most of their policies.
