For the increasing number of people who live alone, the companionship of a dog etc. is a huge positive for their mental health. Idiots owning large and potentially aggressive dog breeds is an entirely separate issue

It doesn't have to be an aggressive breed to attack a child. Daughter still has the scars here 12 years later from a lassie type dog. Luckily she doesn't have a fear of dogs after it and is doing vet nursing now.

There's a YT'er who I otherwise like has the habit of describing himself as his dogs' Daddy, you'd think a farmer would know how these things work !

alot of those types with aggressive breeds have them because they are selling drugs and cannot legally get a firearm. call a spade a spade . iv seen an example of it near here

Anyone watch the sean Quinn programme last night. Does it warrant 3 nights of prime time tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭DBK1

I saw about 20 minutes of it and I’m glad I didn’t see any more. It would only put you in bad form to listen to him and the opinion he has of himself.

If ye were watching the news last night there was another property speculator who got a 170million debt write off and has just 70k to pay back. Hails from the next parish to me here. Red flags up14 yrs ago.

Usual suspects have the same dogs - Bull or staff terriers/Rottweilers/Husky. It's an ego thing and nothing more.

Was looking at the stuff coming out of China at the moment. Building massive quarantine camps to control covid positive people it’s staggering. seems like they are just using covid as a shroud to move forward population control on a massive scale. I can’t see the protests ending well.

Another first here yesterday. Weaned the last few calves that were born late and was walking a few cows back down the road about 100 meters at a leisurely pace and a good 3yo roan charolais cow in great order started to stagger a small bit just as I was coming to the gate and collapsed in the middle of the road. Rang the vet and pulled her off the road with the tractor and she was dead by the time he landed a half an hour later. Didn't seem like there was anything wrong with her before that. Never a dull moment with farming is there.

Get the knackery to see if they notice anything unusual

Any dog can bite. It takes a different breed to sustain a mauling attack for several minutes and have to be beaten off with a baseball bat. Those types have no business out in public unregulated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,344 ✭✭✭carrollsno1

Aunt and uncle in the states have been taking in rescue dogs of those types over the last few years, tbe current dog was used as a bait dog iirc. Supposed to be quiete out etc and had serious trust issues etc when first landed, two of the most easy going liberals you would meet and i couldnt believe it at first they always had these types of dogs. Last time he was home he said the next time it will be for month or more as they are retired and the dog will be coming with them. I cant see it working out either way for anyone if they do bring her on with them.

For anyone renewing insurance watch out for being underinsured. Replacement costs for a house have risen 30 to 40% in the last 12 months.

So if you make a claim for 5k you will probably only get about half. Estimated cost for building a house is €180 a square foot. I heard at the weekend block laying in Dublin is now 2.50 a block. Looks like labour is the biggest price hike.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Netherlands set to CPO nearly 3000 farms and close them down because of EU rules.

Intend to watch it all at a later date, a story of interest, any "would be entrepreneur " would do well to watch it.

A steely character alright is the BIG fella.

They'll be seizing vacant homes here soon with such numbers of people without a house to sleep in.

As near Guaranteed as anything in life.

The Govt there are very committed to this, it may collapse the Govt, it may cause them a battering in the next election but they are highly committed to it

Where to buy a good fork/pike?

Rather than starting a new thread- I’ve decided to treat myself this winter-

does anyone know where to get good forks or what brand to go for. I’m driven demented with inferior quality.

the 20yo 4 prong was replaced at local hardware and you’d bend the prongs doing nothing. I was digging loose soil in a raised bed and they bent. Useless now for dung.

last spring, I bought a Darby 3 prong and is isn’t a shadow of its predecessor. It does the job but just not as good. Again it replaced a 20-30year old one that finally gave way.

Look out for an Aldi stainless steel digging fork in Spring

Grass seed that ends up mixed through dung, what would be the odds of it taking root when the dung is spread. I've often wondered. It would be the seed out of a round bale.

A lad down the pub works in the councils recycling center. It's unbelievable what he gets. People patio, get robotic mower for the garden n drop the lawnmowers , shed contents etc down to his place. A few pints gets you anything.

If I worked there I'd be putting up new sheds to store the loot!

Lucky escape this week, water pump started going in the van. Mechanic said bearings in it were nearly shot, could end up a big bill if if threw the timing belt. Dropped it up to him this morning and spotted a 191 transporter, conrod went out through the block 😮 €6k for new engine, parts, labour at least.

Don't feel too bad about my timing belt kit now. Wouldn't be long spending a GLAS cheque.

a few US youtube channels winter cattle by " bale grazing" basically rolling out bales of hay from land with good grasses/flower plants on poorer land to distribute seeds. If the seeds are in dungheap for a while maybe high temp would kill them?

I was stopped at checkpoint at a Random place on a back road- not overly looking for anything.

on another note- how much meat would you expect from a bullock- LMx off a speckle park. Live weight was about 620kg.

I reckon I only got just over 200kg butchered meat. Granted there was very little money.

I had a heifer butchered 2 years ago and was very happy with kill out- got about 8 boxes of meat and 60kg. No clue of live weight back then.

this lad had 6boxes with 50kg mince.
