These stories about retailers saying they'll stay open, if they do they'll be just like that publican that tried to do the same and ended up serving for an hour or two and then closed after the Gardaí called in for a chat.

No ,not unless they operating illegally

905 positive swabs from 14676 tests. Positivity rate 6.17%. Encouraging trend this week.

    Apologies if already posted.

Can't seem to get an answer for this one:

Will mobile phone shops be allowed stay open? Looks like from gov.ie its emergency only so would this be just for click and collect?

Some good news - nursing homes appear to be pretty well protected across Europe during this second wave - probably why deaths are a lot lower across Europe than we were familiae with in wave one.

Of the 440 covid deaths in England and Wales last week only 15% of those deaths occurred in nursing homes
    https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-weekly-covid-19-deaths-rise-to-highest-level-since-start-of-july-ons-figures-show-12108977

A massive improvement on first wave where around half of deaths in England were in nursing homes iirc. We will likely see the average age of covid deaths reduce across Europe for this reason which may alarm some people but its important to know the risk remains unchanged. Just the oldest most vulnerable people are being protected now from contracting covid

Stopped using hand sanitizer going into shops months ago. Most of it is absolutely vile, abrasive chemical perfumed chite.

Very encouraging. 3 consecutive days of falling + rate and falling swab numbers. Level 3 is working....

Good trends in the swabs last 3 days.

And yet we're being dragged into a lockdown. It's madness.

So... what your saying is a Level 6 will have us out of this by Mid November ?

The definition of essential retail was updated yesterday.

I don't think so. Early days to say that the decline will continue, yes. But we should give it some more time, especially as it seems to be on a downward trajectory. The government don't seem to be able to hold their nerve for more than a minute.

Some people probably got a bit of a wake up call 2 weeks ago when the Government were asked to consider Level 5, so that may be showing through now. That, and an end to County Final celebrations.

Be careful now posting any positive news, this might upset some of the lockdown merchants....

Whatever progress level 3 made will be wiped out in these 2 days with everyone panic shopping and people getting their last few pints in.

So these re-infections aren't outliers. But we live in Ireland so that's an exception.

Its always important to read Caveats links as well as his posts. Its talking about reinfection with other Coronaviruses, not SARs-CoV2. Some would have us believe the this virus will behave like other coronaviruses by having frequent reinfections and to not behave like other coronaviruses by having a continued high mortality and not being subject to the same processes that made the other viruses part of the seasonal cold - namely - Natural selection on the virus to less deadly strains, and passive resistance to serious infection in the population as more of us are exposed/ vaccinated.

I would prob be considered one of the lockdown merchants but I think the sustained lowering of positivity is great news

not unless the border between the NI and the South is closed.

eg. 30% of the staff in Altnagelvin hospital in Derry live in the South.

Everyone has given up and doesn't care anymore.

Look at the Playstation forum. Lads are saying they don't care about restrictions and will go get their PS5.

and then spend the next 6 weeks inside, could be the best thing ever to suppress covid

NPHET as Nolan tweet last night want R at 0.5. Government position for 1st December appears to be consistently below 1 and on a downward trajectory.

As pointed out last night it'll be level 3 from 1st December so long as government targets are met I feel
