NPHET as Nolan tweet last night want R at 0.5. Government position for 1st December appears to be consistently below 1 and on a downward trajectory.

As pointed out last night it'll be level 3 from 1st December so long as government targets are met I feel

I heard mention last night that between 50 and 100 cases per day would be acceptable for government to lift restrictions/reduce levels.

I was trying to find out about that earlier. She was appointed in September apparently. There's an interview with Zara King on Twitter.

For people saying the Hospitals are almost over run now; this time last year Hospitals were most definitely over run- 11,400 people on Trollies in October 2019

But they weren't overrun with covid victims!!!

    Covid!!! Covid!!! Covid!!!

    Apologies if already posted.

    Very positive.

Can anyone state where we roughly are at as regards backlogs of swabs? I don't think we have much of a backlog but haven't the figures.

Nothing worse than expecting 850 cases today and it ends up at 1,000 through backlog.

is 0.5 not ridiculously low? Borderline unattainable?

It is very ambitious to say the least. Borderline zero COVID to be honest.

Think we hit that at some point in June/July, around the time when we got down to absolutely tiny numbers

The last 3 days figures (not including today’s swab figures) are very close : 3628 swabs v 3590 cases announced

We could be the first country to go for 0.5 COVID.

Disinfect the balls every change of serve?

All balls deserve a good wash before they get attention or use 😋😂

There was an approx 600 difference between swabs (higher) and announced between Friday and Saturday. Announced has been about 200 higher since, so potential for a few hundred of a backlog.

However, the last 2 weeks, announced has been lower than swabs on Tuesdays.

It does seem very ambitious but hopefully not unattainable. I wonder are they seeing close contact numbers going down since level 3 imposed in Dublin and Donegal, level 3 for country, level 4 for NI counties etc.

That's good. Backlog pretty well cleared. You'd expect 850 cases or so today then, given swabs are always 5-10% higher than cases mostly.

Presume we have nothing sent to the Germans:pac:

    Schools open
Covid spreads best at 4 degrees.

It's very ambitious and its unlikely to work.

They work for Department of Health so not in HSE budget.

Its amazing looking at the thanks on posts just reporting numbers. All the one that show a positive trend are thanked by one group, and a negative trend another

Not to them, to NPHET and I'd say they were dragged screaming and kicking to commit to that. It is one glaring fault of NPHET, they will not set clear objectives nor numbers as to what constitutes an acceptable level. As low as possible, not there yet or simply optimistic just annoys people now and bring zero levels of certainty.

And 40 sitting members of NPHET when it only matter what Dr T says anyway.

You'd have to wonder why the government was so resistant to closing schools for a week. If they're so confident they're not a transmission risk then what do they have to lose? I can understand if it's a political or economic decision but a week when everyone is facing 6 weeks restrictions isn't huge in the scheme of things.

Probably to make departmental officers sound more important.

National Lead for Acute Hospitals sounds more of a big deal if the person doing the job is also deputy chief medical officer.

It was suggested a while back that Germany is mostly used for the serial testing rather than day to day testing.
