Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Junta Leader Tony Hoolihan is on the Late Late Show now for a softball interview

Ryan: If we'd listened to you 2 weeks ago would we have avoided the Nursing home outbreaks?

How about: If you'd kept testing nursing homes weekly instead of fortnightly would we have avoided the Nursing home outbreaks?

This comment says more about you than it ever would about Hoolihan.

There's some madball stuff on this site tbh.

Eh have any retailers closed? 1 or 2. No one is caring about Level 5 this time round. Hardly any retailers have closed, one or two where i am, last time it was 100% of them. Business as usual here.

Police don't care either when they just drive on by .

Again your bias against young people is telling. If the gardai had of been more proactive with checkpoints at various times of the day, not just targeting workers, advising against unnecessary journeys and gatherings when Dublin entered level 3 then we might not be where are now.

You obviously haven't been paying close enough attention. Level 5 should have happened a couple of weeks ago. Mass ward closures on the horizon next week. Good luck having a heart attack/stroke in next 6 weeks.

I work in the HSE. The situation is far worse than it was last March. it's not case numbers, it's staff isolating/ covid + that is killing us.

    Not accurate at all.

    Example:
Day 0 HCW tests not detected. Low viral load.

    Day 3/4/5/6 HCW becomes symptomatic

Potentially 3/4/5 days of transmission in that period.

Weekly testing may have mitigated the risk but certainly not avoided it. This risk would be further reduced by low levels of community transmission but a certain cohort want to be absolved of all personal responsibility.

Tubridy describing the businesses being shut down and the owners are patriotic (even though they didn't have an option). Straight out of the totalitarian regime playbook. We put you out of business and you are patriots for it.

back in spring at the height of it a eldery couple I know..one had a suspected heart attack the other a stroke.. both received the best of care.. less beds then...higher cases hospitalised and on ICU... so whats changed if other countries to go by less influenza expected. Only difference I can see is no private hospitals onboard. That is a HSE/Nephet/government decision.

Strictly speaking, I think not. Visitors to homes are restricted to care givers and trades people. A cleaner doesn't fit the bill.

He is a terrific communicator alright. Quite aside from the detail and quality of the advice being provided to the government, much of this battle will be won or lost by the level of trust, communication, and leadership shown by those providing expert advice that is predominantly beyond the full understanding of those who must change their lives. And having someone who can convey the message with such judgment and authority is a very strong benefit in the favour of Ireland's handling of the crisis.

It is but it's ultimately determined by NPHET. They have set a metric but it remains to be seen whether they'll stand over that or as some of us expect they'll extend their recommendation anyway.

It's not. The staff off is far greater now than back in March. Community transmission is to blame. You are deluded if you think that the HSE chose community transmission as a coping strategy.

How's he supposed to do that when for all he knows there could be a massive rave in some gaff in the back ass of nowhere that spreads to every part of the country. It's really up to the people and how they behave and interact with eachother.

10% of people at least will always do their own thing regardless. Unless you imprison that 10% they are not going to follow advice or public health guidance.

This is the real world. We're not China where you can be dragged off to an isolation centre if you test positive or don't follow the rules. We're also not Sweden where 99.9% follow guidance.

I don't expect anything on that at all until about 18 November but I'm not optimistic about what will be said then or on Dec 1 and still see it being extended into December.

It's always been about most people doing most things right. Then you support that with the testing system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,139 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

I just can't believe no-one is questioning the reduction in testing in nursing homes. It should be increased not reduced.
Blaming Joe Soap for nursing home infections is just pure deflection, ironically they are using those deaths to blame the public.
