They have finally appointed a director to manage the excavation and recovery of children’s remains at the site of the Mother and Baby home in Tuam.

How it has taken this long is beyond most rational and decent people.

The archaeologist who did the initial dig in 2017 said the bodies needed to be protected as soon as possible to protect the DNA material.

Corless said: “It’s heart-breaking that it took so long to get the government to have a will to do something for them.

“It was an atrocity right from the start when I found out back in 2014 and I just couldn’t understand why something didn’t happen immediately.”

She noted that archaeologists who discovered the bones told her “within six months you must take those remains out of here”.

“So it’s five of six years later, and nothing has happened yet, but it’s good that it will happen and that was my focus all along, just to get those babies out and to give them a decent Christian burial.”

Corless added that she is hopeful that some of the remains can be identified.

“There are remarkable resources in DNA and there’s no doubt remains can be identified.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

And yet another year passes with absolutely no progress on the ground.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Excellent documentary from RTE last night on the Mother and Baby homes. Obviously it's a very disturbing documentary but I think every Irish adult should watch it.

    Stolen - RTÉ Player (rte.ie)

This is a documentary examining the treatment of unmarried pregnant women in Ireland, which was heavily influenced by the Catholic Church.

Unbelievably, many unmarried mothers were incarcerated in mother and baby institutions run by nuns from the foundation of the state in 1922 up until as recently as 1998.

Here, survivors reveal the shocking details of their treatment in a scandal that sparked a government inquiry into the fate of these women who fell pregnant in 20th-century Ireland.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Excavations to begin "shortly " at the Tuam site. Not sure what another memorial service will accomplish.

Only ten years since the story broke 🙄

Not directly affected by any of the awful scandals that have been uncovered in recent years, but they each show the shocking way our citizens were treated by agents of the RCC. The really annoying part is that so many of our state departments and services failed those same citizens by not doing their job. Successive governments outsourced essential services to the RCC and still don't seem to be in any hurry to take responsibility for their lack of oversight. The damage done to so many of our people by RCC clergy and religious makes me really angry. It is outrageous that it took the state ten + years to organise the excavation of those sites and finally give answers to so many families.

Umm, the excavations haven't happened yet. And the remains are decaying in the weather.

As was stated above, until Ireland culturally cuts its bonds with the RCC, the government will continue to do their bidding, mostly involving delay, delay, delay as they know the biological solution favors them, the victims and witnesses pass away.
